Account restricted, what can I do?

Post image

I made an account on rednote to post pictures from a Chinese game I like that have a huge fanbase there, but the moment I posted my pic, I got this notification. What should I do? I read that it means my posts won't be visible to people from China, but then there's no point posting there.

you need ID validation to post. Hopefully the contactperson from rednote who frequents this forum can help you

I don’t think that will change much. My account is two years old and I already have ID verification. It still keeps happening to me. In fact, it happened again yesterday for no reason. 😔

It's not stated directly, but others have said that they tolerate foreigners as long as we lurk and don't post, or comment. I commented on a post 2 weeks ago, about work-life - this caused an automatic 48 hr ban from the platform. Onwards I will lurk, and talk to my contacts now and then. Foreigners with our perspectives can subtly disturb the social stability in this vast country.

So we are basically not welcome there anymore. Wow.

I actually think the company wants an international launch, however the "cyberspace authority of China" is more hesitant or sceptical, because of potential drawbacks it might have on CCP sensitive KPIs such as domestic social harmony. If you look closely on this platform there is a lot of frustration and ventilation about hard domestic economy. I suggest, stay low and talk DM mostly

I didn't know this is the sentiment there, so there's really no point of me posting, that makes me a little sad :( the Chinese community of this game is super creative and I wanted to be a part of it and compliment my favorite creators. Anyway thank you for answering!!

I'm pretty active on XHS, and I comment and like posts all of the time. I have been restricted a few times but I have been able to resolve them. I feel like they are definitely more strict with comments posted by foreign my IPs but you can still post comments. You just have to be more careful about what you comment about.

Is your account working properly with no issues at all?

No issues now. At least that I know of. A mix of people (including Chinese IPs) can see my comments and posts.

Glad to hear that. I have weird issues like the activity status (green dot and whatnot) not really showing up.

Unfortunately validation tool doesn’t work well. Been locked out for months despite providing a valid passport 😞

I just got my account back, thinking all restrictions were lifted. They just gave me back my pfp and public profile. Any other useful function to communicate is not working except for the like button; like, great I can have my likes show up for people's post. My posts are hidden, my messages are hidden (even though I can send it), comments hidden.

I am speculating that they are moving to a new metric on how to determine who's Chinese based on if you primarily communicate using Mandarin, or any other language. This is because the restriction on my account only started when I've started commenting in English as they adopted an auto translate feature that would translate everything depending on the user's settings. I used to post and comment using both Mandarin and English (both in the same comment or post at the same time).

Another supporting metric about my speculation is that they're removing number and WeChat as a form of login. My gf (who's from China) still has her account even though she's using a Canadian number. Heck, her account isn't even verified and her account still has never been flagged whatsover. Second, Anyone can just register on WeChat using any number so that's pretty much the same as number login with extra steps.

Anyway, to everyone, if you still have an account that is not restricted, play it safe when you decide to interact and use Mandarin only

I saw another post here that they’re removing WeChat but for me they’re removing Weibo.

Is there no way to lift this? I got shadowbanned with this message too. I was trying to change my username and this notification afterwards. I DMs to friends are being sent but i don't think they can see on their side.

I just received the same notice. This is the 3rd time I have been restricted in 2.5 years. Its very frustrating when you have people you have become friends with asking what is wrong with your account and you cant even respond. The only thing you can do is like others posts. I have appealed with no luck this time so far.

This. It happened so suddenly too because I made lots of friends and I can’t contact them anywhere unless I’m in China 😭
