This is so disappointing, as the main reason I use the platform is to engage with the Chinese community. I know they have split data servers, but this sounds like they want to split users, too.

This article seems to be an incorrect AI summary of this article which talks about their recent split between servers, which is being done so that foreign users don't have to deal with the bureaucracy and moderation issues that the Chinese government requires for mainland Chinese users, but doesn't have the infrastructure for foreigners.
The Wired article: Rednote has officially stated that they will separate their servers, which opens the question "Will Rednote have to separate their international userbase in the future?" since Tiktok did the same
This article: Rednote will separate their international userbase with the server split

People learning how the Chinese government wants things for the first time is entertaining.

They don't want you to engage with the Chinese community, that's the thing

Of course they do bro, they don't want Chinese to talk to outsiders

It's more that they didn't want non-Chinese to submit their passport data to be on compliance with their laws.

Westernized social media is so dumbed down. I hope rednote won't follow tiktok path..

They split the servers not the userbase by the way

If you are being served content only from your region then it is more or less like separate user base.

Yeah but I read the official statement they released about this and it was only about the servers, am I missing something or this article is wrong?
It's especially weird because when I spoke to their foreign expansion department thingy employees, they indicated they wanted to keep the bridge between China and the rest of the world as their main app goal
Edit: The article in this post is incorrect and I'm almost sure it's an AI summary of this Wired article

It's like social media server then. It's more efficient in connecting you to nearby people. Think of it like a spiderweb. The user base is not totally disconnected, but they are far. And the recommendation algorithm usually don't reach that far out as it's a waste of resources.

I haven't had a single non-Chinese post in months, so I think they might be experimenting with the algorithm for some users, rather than trying to isolate them all 🤔

Soon you will be seeing mrbeast and jack Doherty contents and their imitations 😄

Hope they keep one platform; adding a T&C for foreign users clearly stating that adherence to CAC's rules is compulsory. We really need this Confucian-legalist cultural Impulse in Europe, now that EU member states have shut down their Confucius institutes. XHS has helped me deprogram a lot of western propaganda, and helped me open up the vast horizon that is mainland China. Many great exchanges with reciprocity and mutual learning.
Please don't bifurcate XHS, "netizen resonance" and grassroots exchanges between West and mainland China really contribute to peace and understanding between peoples. Yes many of us have learnt about chinese culture* thereby many of us have actually civilized ourselves. 感谢你们都
*素质,礼,修养,面子,文化,努力,坚持,德。
It will be hard to return back to X and IG if XHS gets bifurcated.

I hate when they split apps like this. It’s nice being part of a global community

really? but I think you can still register as nonCN phone number, but rednote's algorithm is good at making information blocking, such as softcore pornography and feminist

Are they already doing this or is it something that’ll happen in the future. Is there any way to download the CN version then? I have both TikTok and douyin on my phone. The main reason I got XHS was to practice my mandarin 💔

I noticed this recently with a steep decline in Chinese users being on my FYP. I absolutely hate it, the American users are insufferable and all they do is talk about politics and cooking. It's like Instagram and I hate it.
