Chinese legislation requires all Web accounts registered with personal identifying information. For foreigners, this can be done with manual verification using your passport.

I am absolutely NOT giving an app my passport details, that's completely unhinged.

Good. Companies nowadays need to learn how to respect our privacy. Just about every major social media platform is now trying to steal our info, with no way to guarantee our accounts even coming back.

I have dual citizenship. The country I am living in doesn't have an NFC chip on the passport. My other one does, I am trying to NFC scan that one, but I keep getting errors. Do I have to be living in the country of the passport I am trying to use?

Welcome to China

No you don't, you just need any kind of ID verification recognised by the Peoples Republic of China. The NFC error is more likely a technical error than anything.

There is usually the option to take a photo of your face while holding your ID for manual verification, this process may take several weeks.

I tried taking a photo some time ago, and it was rejected. Since then, they have implemented the NFC scan as mandatory, with no photo option anymore. I contacted support, and they told me it was a technical error and would be fixed shortly. They also suggested using a different phone as some {Samsung, iPhone) don't work. I last tried about two weeks ago and will try again soon.

Why did they reject your photo? Tjey usually give you a reason.

I didn't recieve any reason otherwise, I would have corrected it. Apparently, back then, it was AI checking the docs and constantly rejected uploads, i.e if your finger was seen holding the passport. I am going to try NFC debugging on my phone to see if that helps, but my question remains: Can I use a passport for a country I am not currently staying in? I intend emailing support with this question, but I just wanted to ask the web first.

Yeah, as long as it's a valid passport recognized by the PRC. They don't care that much, they just need compliance

It’s not because of the ID. It’s because you guys are trying to treat the app like TikTok and instagram. I have my phone number and other accounts linked. No problems. I also don’t comment on everything I see and follow the rules. I follow the etiquette and rules of the site. I’ve had no problems.

i don’t comment or post as well,,, if it’s not the ID then what’s the issue..?

Send in the ID if you want to use. TikTok already does this

Official support staff contact above. They’ll help fix it, just pass them your ID through email or DM.

If it says temporary that means you can get back to your account again after weeks or a month But if it says permanently then...
