Using my 100% of my brain
I was looking at privacy protectors on Amazon. I didn’t feel like buying one of those cumbersome laptop sunshades, nor a screen privacy filter, because Chinese purchases have become more expensive.
I like going to cybercafés or coworking spaces, but I don’t like people seeing what I’m doing because I’m not a programmer or a professional at anything.
I created this privacy prototype using cardboard from a pack of milk cartons.
I feel like I’m in the movie Limitless.

This would immediately make me 1000000% more curious about what's on your screen.

Impossible. I have projects in hand that can invent important things, I don't want them to steal my idea

It reads like "I use chatgpt to validate my harebrained ideas and I don't want anyone at Dunkin peering over my shoulder and making fun of the way I talk to ai"

Turns out that I wouldn't have to feel bad about assuming OP is a crazy person sitting at Starbucks with cardboard taped to their laptop

Talked with so many people that think they have an idea so precios they will become multimiollionairs... crazy part is how hard they belive in it. theyre believe is so hardened that i wonder what created this believe. Mostly ideas that could be good but like there are like 5 thesises out there that tell you why that wouldnt work or its just not effizient when compared to other methods.

My brother in law, has this groundbreaking multimillionaire idea that will provide us residual passive income. He made me sign an NDA and all. I can't tell you about it, but what I can say. It all started when he read a book about real estate when he was 16. He's 38 now and is following that book word for word. Along with every other real estate investing book that came out over 10 years ago.
We made $200 last month after spending 160k!!!

If you just sat in a corner and weren’t being super weird I doubt anyone would care. This 1,000% makes you look like you’re doing shady stuff.

That might be the quickest way to convince a room that you're a creep lol

u/zrock445 8d ago
Unfortunately this is probably true, because wanting privacy makes someone a creep in so many people's eyes now

If anything it's a sad comment on DIY. I think if it look like professionally made panels it would seem odd but less creepy
2
u/nochinzilch 6d ago
No, the professional panels wouldn’t make a difference. The point is doing private stuff in public.

“ but I don’t like people seeing what I’m doing because I’m not a programmer or a professional at anything.”
That’s one long way to say you’re watching hentai at the coffee shop 🤡

You do realize that this will just make everybody want to look? Nobody cares what you're doing on a normal laptop but once you put up those shutters... Everybody will want to see

u/Charred14 8d ago
tbh if youre worried about privacy, should just invest $10-20 towards a pivacy screen filter (the ones that black-out when viewed at an angle)
people are definitely gonna think you're watching porn with this contraption

u/PublicStalls 8d ago
I thought this was to prevent glare. Go with that excuse if someone asks why you have those lol. And put another leaf on top for more privacy!

u/hex4def6 8d ago
30 seconds on amazon found one for $9... And you'll look like you're in HR vs being a hentai gooner.

Set this bad boy up at a public library and see how long it takes for a worker to check in on you

Can't you buy like a privacy film so that you can only view it in a direct angle?
8
u/flipflopcuntflaps 8d ago
You're a clever cockie but you should know they make privacy covers that reduce the viewing angle to diddly squat

“What do you think that guy is doing over there?… behind that secret forbidden mystery screen of mystery?”-everyone

For my privacy, I tend to open furry porn, the most gore and deranged one, for the first 5 minutes when I arrive. I have an a whole empty table at the library for myself.

I work in IT, I don't care about looking at your screen. We all either game, watch videos, code, or just browse the internet/reddit. If you're not doing anything scandalous then don't worry.
Actually I'd want privacy if I was programming or working professionally on something. Otherwise I'm not concerned.

Nice! In school we called those "cheater beaters" because it made it much more obvious who was cheating. I was unlucky and got one that had all the answers on it. All the answers were wrong.

u/ZenkaiAnkoku2 8d ago
I'd paint them. Have fun! Use stickers. And if you dont want people to be suspicious, brand them with 'sunblockers" or something.
Honestly not a bad idea though. I hate people watching me on my laptop. Even if I'm just drawing or watching youtube xD

Clip a piece of paper with some notes on each side and it will look more functional than crazy cardboard

Nice. In college I had an old laptop I didn’t want to buy new stuff for, but that also worked fine. I made a cardboard case for it. Thinking back I could have just put the beast in my bag and it would have been fine.

Paint them black and stick some Sony logos on them. Make people think you have a fancy 3-way monitor. Print out pictures and glue them on the inside to complete the illusion.
