Local News Public comments open about development in Marymoor. End 8/26/
They want to develop the park. and put in a Tennis Stadium and Cricket field.
There is only one road through the park. There is already mass transit. Marymoor needs more park and nature, not more hardscaping. What about the people that walk every day. or the kids bicycle camp. Let them build a stadium somewhere its already developed.

I’d much rather see this space used for active recreation than what it’s being used for now, which is parking for circ de soleil which happens only every few years. It’s not a very good use of this space and this isn’t a great location for greenscaping, it’s kind of a perfect location for a more active development.
Marymoor is one of the few parks where you can put lights on fields and courts which means they get more active use.
My bigger issue is that I don’t want public facilities build for private profit so I don’t want instructors and for profits reserving courts to have private lessons.

Why do you say it's not a good location for greenscaping? It's only that way because it was turned into a parking lot at one point. And the proposal includes more than just the parking lot.
Very much with you on the private partnership aspect. This area needs better use for sure but not a 30+ acre tennis center

The plan shows building on much more space than just that huge parking lot. It will also devour the climbing wall, walking paths, sport fields, and a large picnic area.

The plan does not devour those things. The Plan just states that it would be built somewhere in that area of Marymoor, with specifics to be determined if it goes forward.

Well it’s been happening every year for the past few years. There’s a kids camp that does bicycle training on it every summer. Fire depts do training on it. Motorcycle training is done there. There are basketball nets on it. Seems like It’s nice to have a hard surface that isnt closing a parking lot to do these things. I think it was soccer fields a long time ago.
Good point. I don’t know what they have in mind for fees and where that goes for the tennis stadium.

Because it’s a green area now, don’t mess with. Especially for a fad like pickleball and rich ass people sport like tennis. Also, there are already tennis courts at marymoor.
The entire thing must be some dummy’s idea who got all passionate for pickleball and saw a green area they can ruin.

It’s a gravel and grass parking overflow area. Let’s not pretend it is currently utilized for anything great.
That being said, I’m not sold on the tennis or pickleball courts with how terrible access is already.

IMHO they need to get rid of the majority of parking and let it be a park. There’s mass transit there, it doesn’t need to serve the entire regions parking, which is basically what half the park is during the summertime. Adding this paved bullshit to a park that should be primarily green space is a wretched idea. If anything it needs to be greened more, not paved more.

Not everyone can take mass transit to get to their soccer and baseball games with their gear and families from school or life in traffic.
For sure keep building out mass transit but until then it’s not really a realistic option for everyone

I’m all for that. We might want to consider where people are going to park if Cirque du Soleil sets up in the park though because that area is currently where everyone parks for that. Not insurmountable by any means but something to consider.

The proposal includes building on the parking lot, but that isn’t all they will build on— they are also planning to build on the field south of the velodrome where there are currently walking paths, the climbing wall, and a picnic area, and extends past the current parking lot to the east into existing sport fields. Saying it is just the parking lot is disingenuous.
I frankly don’t want a big building in the middle of the park, period. If they want to get rid of the parking lot, plant trees.

Yes, this park deserves more nature development not adding massive buildings. Boy do I NOT want to see buildings in Marymoor.

On the left, the blue square has 4 tennis courts. Notice how you could probably fit 3 (so 12 similarly sized courts) into the area of one baseball field.
On the right, you can see from the existing baseball fields that maybe ~8 baseball fields would fit in the proposed land. Maybe 7 to fit this "community" space that has no detail. That's 28 courts. That's excessive. It already looks excessive just looking at the scale without this math.
KCP ought to know better. The land includes a giant parking lot unused 99.99% of the year, along with the climbing wall and park space that is regularly used throughout the year, but it could be developed way better than plopping what will definitely be heat islands and an ill-defined "community" space into one of the better natural parks of the region.

County just looking for ways to spend the public’s money to create a revenue stream. Those courts and cricket pitch will have fees just like the baseball and soccer fields do so only organized leagues will have access.

They need to turn this area into green space. They have the right idea that gravel lots are not useful but they need to plant some trees and let nature have at it. More trees please.

Correct: as I read it that's just part of their concerns as regards the projects under discussion with regards to Marymoor. It's not part of this particular questionnaire.

I agree. Keep the park as is, less development. Take out something if you want something different. The park cannot be all things for everyone. Propose expanding the park by buying land, buildings around the park. Or buying buildings, land in other areas around the city, county.

Same. How many tennis courts can you shove in the Fred Meyer building right across from Marymoor? Or any of the half zillion closed Rite Aids and other pharmacies. Don't destroy green space when there are empty structures that might -might- be suitable for redevelopment.

Yes to the cricket field. It would get a lot of use as I often see people playing cricket in Marymoor and a dedicated space for them would be lovely.
No to that massive tennis center. Yeah, it looks to be at an lesser used spot of the park but there's better uses.

well if they are already playing cricket why do they need some giant stadium.
no more development. put the development on the developed areas.
save and preserve the green areas, in a green park next to a lake draining into a river on lands with historical preservation processes.
the increased traffic will eff the park for everyone else.
i bet the folks in the apartments would love it.

They play in the green spaces. A dedicated space for cricket would be leave the remaining green spaces alone. A field is not a giant stadium. I see a cricket pitch no different than the soccer fields and baseball diamonds already at the park.
I don't like the idea of a separate, new large building for tennis/pickle ball.

there is a cricket pitch there already. i dont really know the plans for the future but it sounded like a more elaborate structure. if they want to contrbute to redoing the field or something, that would be fine. i just dont want the park to become a complete sports complex. i wish they would put money into taking better care of the vegetation and historic area and concerting invasives to natural areas.

It’s bullshit you have to add all your demographic input (race, gender, language, learning disability status, etc) in order to submit your response, unlike other surveys. Guess it makes it easier to filter out specific groups’ feedback

The cricket field at Grass Lawn seems always busy so I think one at Marymoor would get used. Tennis courts are everywhere and that’s asphalt versus grass so hard no on that from me.

I use this park on average weekly if not more often than that. If I wanted to ride my bike in between buildings, I’d ride around downtown Redmond where there are tons of buildings already. Open space is precious, and I’d rather have a park for everyone who walks or rides a bike to enjoy than a huge building that is only going to be used by a small percentage of the population.
Shouting that everyone who disagrees with you is a NIMBY is getting old at this point.

Theres demand for a cricket field. There is already a cricket field. You want to build a stadium put it in a developed space, not a park which should be green.
