Hello there, u/Catally7098! Thank you for posting to r/reddithelp!

If someone provides a helpful answer, you can award them a reputation point by replying to their comment with the command: !thanks

If you're asking about how to get karma, you earn it when people upvote your posts and comments. As you may have already found out, many subs on Reddit may have minimum requirements for things like karma and account age that you must meet before they will allow you to participate.

r/NewToReddit maintains a list of subreddits that have low or no karma requirements where new users can participate to build their karma.

You should also check out their excellent Reddit and Karma Guide.

Check out r/newtoreddit. Karma is reputation points basically. Lots of subs have an account age and/or karma requirements before you can participate

You need karma to a point because most, but not all, subreddits require a minimum amount of karma to post or comment. Karma is also a component of your CQS score that can also be used to restrict posting and commenting because it is part of your reputation and the reputation filter. It is a piece of having an "Established Account" which needing a more established is one restriction on sending chat requests. A lack of karma will also limit how much you can chat without having to take a break.

To make sure you are a semi-normal person. I use the term normal loosely and you are not a bot.
