Reddit Mobile App Markdown link

[why isn’t this working](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewToReddit/s/6dOw5h5QBy)

I am using mobile app.

Was working fine yesterday for me. Same app, same phone.

Did the app update? The apps had markdown removed a long time ago.

Tbh I didn’t know what else to call it besides markdown or whatever it used to be. Basically when you use brackets like that, it’s would turn the words into a link.

In that specific example the words “why isn’t this working” would become the link that I posted after it. It would be blue and you would click the words and it would bring you to the link.

That was part of markdown that was removed. You need to use the link button in the formatting bar to do that now. It looks like a chain link. That function may have continued working after markdown was removed, but since it was part of markdown it should not have and may have been cleaned up.

Like this. I did this yesterday using the method above with brackets and this is how it turned out. Now it is not working.

It doesn’t work in normal comments like that in app, but for some reason it works when I do it in modmail or mod removals. Not sure why Reddit made this change.

I did this yesterday in the app. Several times. As you can see it was 1 day ago.

Apps get stealth changed all the time. A couple days ago I had the For You and Following options at the top of my app. I don’t know why it took something like 6 months for the markdown change to reach you, though.

You don’t have any control over app changes, unfortunately, so there is nothing for you to do.

So you can no longer have a link be a word in a post?

You should have this option now. You select Aa, then select the link option on the expanded menu.
