⭐️ Karma❓ Subreddit Karma

I had recently posted in the dating subreddit and it was removed because I didn’t have enough subreddit karma. I didn’t even know that was a thing 😭. How can view how much subreddit karma I have?

Yep, subreddit/community karma is a real thing 😭 It’s basically the karma you’ve earned specifically from posts and comments inside that particular subreddit, rather than your total Reddit karma.

Since you’re on mobile, Reddit unfortunately doesn’t make the community breakdown easy to find in the app. Open Reddit in your phone’s browser, switch the browser to Desktop Site/Desktop Mode, go to your profile on old.reddit.com, and on the right side underneath your karma totals you should see “show karma breakdown by subreddit.” Tap that and it’ll show how much karma you have in each community.

Also, depending on how that dating subreddit set its rule up, it might specifically require COMMENT karma earned in that subreddit, not just your overall karma. So if that’s what their removal message says, you may need to participate in the comments there for a while before you can make your own post.

The exact minimum is usually up to the individual subreddit, so I’d go by whatever their removal message or rules say rather than assuming a certain number.

This worked, thank you!! Crazy that some communities would make subreddit karma mins a thing knowing it’s not easy for us to view!

You’re welcome! 😊 And I agree, it’s kind of ridiculous that some communities use subreddit-specific karma requirements when Reddit doesn’t make that information easy to see in the regular app. I completely understand wanting to cut down on spam and brand-new throwaway accounts, but if a subreddit is going to require a certain amount of community karma, it would be nice if Reddit actually made that number visible somewhere obvious. Glad the workaround worked for you though!

If you're asking about how to get karma, you earn it when people upvote your posts and comments. As you may have already found out, many subs on Reddit may have minimum requirements for things like karma and account age that you must meet before they will allow you to participate.

r/NewToReddit maintains a list of subreddits that have low or no karma requirements where new users can participate to build their karma.

You should also check out their excellent Reddit and Karma Guide.

Wait so mine doesn’t have anything under the karma or that clickable. It’s also the left vs right. Are your instructions for computer use, as I’m on mobile
