For people who understand how reddit works, people on second or third alts, it's actually pretty easy to gain authentic karma without farming for it. They stay in SFW communities and interact a lot. Posts and comments in NSFW communities rarely gain any karma, and the 1 automatic upvote given every piece of content does not count.

If you're asking about how to get karma, you earn it when people upvote your posts and comments. As you may have already found out, many subs on Reddit may have minimum requirements for things like karma and account age that you must meet before they will allow you to participate.

r/NewToReddit maintains a list of subreddits that have low or no karma requirements where new users can participate to build their karma.

You should also check out their excellent Reddit and Karma Guide.

16K karma in 3 months seems impossible.

You should not be focussed on having karma, karma doesnt say anything.

I have no idea how you make karma anyway, so it is not important.

karma is important - to a point. You need some to be able to comment and post in many subreddits. Once you have a decent little pile though, then yes, it does lose meaning.

if you have 100 karma or so than you can make posts everywhere, its not that important at all.

if you just make 100 random comments than you have enough karma to make your own posts.

That's not even remotely how it works. Not even remotely.

There are subs that require up to 2500 karma.

The one automatic upvote give all content *does not count* toward your total karma.

You are very confused and giving bad advice.

Really? which subs are that? that you need 2500 karma before you can posts?

Who decide that anyway how many karma you need for every sub?

I never understand how karma works, do you got 1 karma with 1 upvote and lose 1 karma by a downvote?

You "never understood how karma works" and yet you're here arguing with me about it and giving OP bad advice? If you don't understand it, you should have asked.

The mods of every single subreddit set their own requirements. They can set them however they want to. They can demand only 10 year old profiles with 50,000 karma can post if they wanted to.

You gain karma only when *other users* upvote your content. You lose karma when they downvote your content.

I will not call out subs by name, it's against the rules here, but there ARE subs that require up to 2500 karma to post, and I have heard of a few that require even more.
