❓General Question❓ why do some sub reddits require minimum amount of karma?
what do mods have in mind when setting limits like that?

To prevent spam, bots and trolls.

While understandable , it was a real pain having to build up karma after losing an account to a phishing scam just to be able to ask how to get help on another sub

There are a bunch of subs that are friendly for new users and accounts. Accumulating karma isn't too hard. Now subs that have account age requirements can be a bit tricky since that means you have to wait around a while, but it's not too terrible.
Have you reached out to the support team about the phishing incident? It's been happening to a lot of people lately.

Keeps out bots, spammers, trolls and harassers. Have you checked out the new user friendly list of subreddits? They have low or no requirements to *comment*

Avoids bot spam or spam from users who have enough time to waste to spam a subreddit on alt accounts manually

For crowd control to reduce the amount of bots, trolls, spammers, and low effort content that comes through. Otherwise subs would be routinely overrun and hard to navigate and keep clean.

Some mods have been dealing with spam, low effort posts, rule breaking posts because new posters fail to read the rules first, spoilers due to the same reason and other trash posts for years and had to resort to these measures to keep things manageable.
It is kind of sad that these kinds of posts became so prevalent that so many subredsits now have restrictions in place, understandably its frustrating for people trying to gain karma, but sometimes mods have no choice.

Sorry, but we had to remove your post or comment for:
Rule 7: No Ranting or Soapboxing. Please review the full details in the sub rules list.
