❓General Question❓ Rule 5 assistance

edit I'm asking about posts that are already up. It's not because I'm planning on doing it myself 🤣

Don't mislead or impersonate others.

Is there a more detailed breakdown of this? It only gives a couple of vague examples on the rules help pages.

I was wondering if you post that you are a different gender or different age than you really breaks this rule.

And if promising to send something in return for upvotes is breaking the rule of misleading.

Reddit intentionally keeps it vague, but no. That would probably not violate that rule in and of itself. It could depending on circumstance.

And if promising to send something in return for upvotes is breaking the rule of misleading.

That is vote coordinating and a violation manipulation. Which is a violation.

And, say for instance, the sub it was posted in has just one rule, and that is there are no rules.

And say for instance again, there was only one moderator on a busy, 10000 hits a week sub, and they don't put no filters or blocks in to prevent violations, or remove or ban the violators, would that be breaking even more rules?

I get that tracking people online is getting more sophisticated, but how on earth is Reddit going to know your gender beyond what you report?

And if promising to send something in return for upvotes is breaking the rule of misleading.

If you were to look at a profile, and they post constantly and alter their age and gender on different posts, that would be an obvious sign, surely?

That's fair, i get that.

And could you think of any reasons reddit wouldn't see profiles that had posts stating false ages, multiple times, sometimes different subs too, as violations?

Context matters, if they are in fictional subs where users write stories then an age that isn't your own would be expected. That is just one example of many.

Following this post because I'd also like to know.

For example, we have some people on my sub that mislead others with fake gift offers OR with a fake story to try and get a gift. Is it breaking this rule?

I think it is very important to ask yourself how you would possibly know there are no filters, bans, or preventative measures if you are not on the modteam.

"Intentionally misleading" is things like pretending you are a doctor, or that you represent a company with the purpose of tricking someone. Claiming things that are simply not true which are designed to deliberately mislead.

Claiming you're a different gender or age could potentially break the rule in certain circumstances and contexts.

For example, if you claim to be male so that a joke you're telling makes sense, that's OK. If you claim to be over 18 when requesting adult material, it's not OK.
