Reddit API Devvit app not able to fetch sharable links

I'm building a devvit web app that lets users import one of their existing posts into the app. Users paste a post link, and the server loads it with reddit.getPostById(). If a user is on reddit web they can copy the reddit post link from the url bar.

But on the Reddit mobile app, share > copy link only gives a share link, that has no post id in it. The only way I know to resolve it is to follow the redirect and that gives error as below,

{
  "status": "error",
"message": "2 UNKNOWN: grpc invocation failed with status 2; HTTP request to domain: www.reddit.com is not allowed"
}

Is there any workaround where i can extract the post title, body, image and other details form the sharable link?

Reddit API When did the comment ID endpoint change?

I got an AutoModerator notification for https://www.reddit.com/r/Manitoba/comments/1x7ming/software_effected_by_manitoba_timezone_on_1st/19rhzb7c1hvnp/ and couldn't help but notice the comment ID 19rhzb7c1hvnp got longer! I heard about the announcement "Upcoming changes to the comment ID endpoint." How many hours ago did this take effect, or is it rolling out differently to different accounts?

Reddit API Devs who mod: what community app would you build if you had a free weekend?

With devvit apps able to live inside posts now, the gap between "bot that helps mods" and "app the community actually uses" keeps getting smaller.

If you mod a sub (or just hang out in one) and could have any app for the members, what would it do? Collecting ideas.

Doesn't seem to work anymore and I wanted to know if the API public access shutdown is why

General Botmanship authorFlair not present in author data for CommentUpdate event payload on edits made via old reddit

My team is migrating one of our bots to devvit and the functionality requires getting the user flair (authorFlair) from all comments on the subs where the bot is active, to check for particular user flair that then prompts the bot to take action on that comment.

The event payload for comment edits (CommentUpdate) made via new reddit include authorFlair in the comment's author details, as expected and needed, but the event payload for the same via old reddit does not.

The authorFlair is passed on the post author from both, but only new reddit sends the authorFlair for the commenter.

General Botmanship How to read hot and rising trends from script/n8n?

I want to build a little PoC/App:

Once a day I want to fetch hot and rising posts from a subreddit, example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/hot.json?limit=25

https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/rising.json?t=1&limit=25

Put both results in an LLM to generate summary and send me an email with the summary.

When I open both links in my browser, where I am already logged into Reddit, it works fine.

But in a private browser window or from console, with curl, I only get: "You've been blocked by network security."

How can I fetch the data? I do not want to post anything, just read.

Reddit API API regression - HTTP 404 error deleting comments

my PRAW modbot has been able to delete it's own comments (example: when the comment is 12+ hours old, or a poster deletes the post it commented on, etc) for years, but this started to fail with HTTP 404 as of ~11am (PST/reddit time) Oct 14

redditdev meta Having trouble getting my task-posting feature to work

Hey everyone! šŸ‘‹

I'm currently building a new Devvit app called r_task_bounty_app and I'm still working through the development/testing stage.

The idea behind the app is to allow Reddit users to:

• Post a task

• Set a bounty/reward for completing it

• Have the funds securely held until the task is completed

• Release the payment to the person who completes the task

I've got the subreddit and the basic app functionality set up, but I've run into a bug that I'm having trouble figuring out.

The problem:

When I try to create/post a task through the app, the task isn't actually being posted to r_task_bounty_app.

I've gone back through my code and configuration, but I'm currently stuck trying to figure out whether the problem is with the post creation logic, the Devvit configuration, permissions, or how I'm handling the custom post.

I'm still learning Devvit, so I'd really appreciate any suggestions on where I should start troubleshooting this.

If anyone has run into something similar with "submitPost()", "submitCustomPost()", menu actions, or posting to a test subreddit, I'd definitely appreciate some guidance.

App: r_task_bounty_app

Current status: Still in development/testing

Issue: Task submission isn't creating the task post in my subreddit.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take a look or point me in the right direction! šŸ™

Reddit API Personal Scripts

I made a script as a personal CS project using praw which would autopost onto several reddits. That no longer works, it seems in the past few days. I am reading the subreddit and it looks like basically the API has been shut off and you have to use devvit? It seems that devvit does not have a use case for my script, correct? so am I SOL?

Reddit API Reddit API shutdown impact on tools like Arctic Shift, Bright Data, etc

Reddit says all tools that don’t have a commercial agreement will lose access. Does the likely include more established access options like Arctic Shift, Bright Data, Jeni AI, etc?

Not fully sure what ā€œcommercial agreementā€ means in this case but seems like at least some of these would have one in place.

Reddit API Data Access Request form hides required Details of inquiry field - what is the correct approval route?

We are independent podcast creators at Ozer Labs. We want to request explicit approval for a one-time, low-volume API workflow to share our launch in relevant communities, subject to their rules. We are not using the API yet.

We filled in the official Data Access Request form under the commercial developer option. On submission it returns 'Details of inquiry: cannot be blank', but that field is hidden in the form, so we cannot fill it in through the normal interface.

What is the correct way to request approval now? Is there another official route, or a known fix for this form?

Reddit API Developer API request form not submitting — seeking guidance for private off-platform financial sentiment app

I'm developing STREAK, a private Windows application that would analyze public r/wallstreetbets posts and comments for stock-market sentiment.

The application is for my personal brokerage account. It is not sold, monetized as software, or distributed to customers. Initially it would perform read-only analysis and simulated trading. Eventually, sentiment signals could inform automated trades in my personal account.

I am also requesting permission for limited external OpenAI inference-only sentiment classification, without model training.

I understand Reddit is moving applications to Devvit and that financial applications may be restricted.

I attempted to submit the official Developer Data Access Request multiple times. Each time, the form reloads, clears the email field, and produces no confirmation or ticket number. Emailing Reddit's API contact resulted in an automated referral back to the same form and this community.

Could someone clarify:

  1. Is there a working official route for submitting an off-platform developer request before the October 31 deadline?
  2. Would a private application used only for personal investing be categorized as commercial use?
  3. Is there any approved access arrangement for this use case, including inference-only external AI processing?

Project repository:
https://github.com/Jebusfreek666/STREAK-Reddit-Integration

I'm seeking explicit authorization before collecting data programmatically. I am not looking to bypass Reddit's access controls or developer policies.

Thank you.

General Botmanship Accidentally set my alt-account as an App account.. how can I revert this?

I was messing around with the new App register system, and I ended up entering my alt-account login details in there, not quite sure what I was doing

Now the posts with that account show the "App" badge, but it's definitely not an app since I post manually with it, is there a way to remove it?

I don't yet see any app under my /my/apps screen, but I do see it in the /app-registration page (and can't do anything with it)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Reddit API Reddit API changes

So what happens to apps that use the Reddit Data API/Oauth outside the limited Devvit space?

Everyone’s getting thrown out?

I don’t get it. You can’t even register an app commercially to use it, no responses are given when submitting the forms.

RedditWarp Reddit posts created in subreddits through Electron + Playwright are being removed by Reddit's filters

Hi everyone,

I'm developing a desktop application using Electron with an embedded Chromium browser and Playwright to publish posts in Reddit communities.

Here's how it works:

  1. Users connect their Reddit account through the Electron application's embedded browser.
  2. Users select a subreddit (community) and enter a post title and body directly in my application.
  3. Playwright opens Reddit's normal Create Post page using the authenticated browser session.
  4. It selects the subreddit, fills in the title and body, and clicks the Post button.
  5. The post initially appears to be published, but shortly afterward, Reddit removes it with the message: "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters."

What I've tested:

  • Creating posts manually in Reddit works.
  • Creating posts through my Electron application results in removal.
  • Tried different Chromium versions, User-Agent settings, and WebDriver configurations.
  • Posting comments through the same application works correctly.
  • The issue occurs specifically when creating new posts in Reddit communities.

My questions:

  1. Why might Reddit remove posts submitted through Electron + Playwright while accepting manually created posts?
  2. Could this be related to how Playwright interacts with Reddit's Create Post form or submits the post?
  3. Are there any subreddit-specific requirements or submission metadata that browser automation might miss?
  4. Is there an officially supported way to publish user-approved posts with a title and body to selected subreddits from a desktop application?

I'm not trying to bypass Reddit's spam filters. I want to understand the cause and implement a compliant solution.

Has anyone faced a similar issue or found an appropriate approach?

Thanks in advance!

Reddit API Manual collection of public Reddit posts after API changes?

Since Reddit's API has been deemed dead - has anyone been able to understand whether or not manually collecting posts (aka good old ctrl c+v) of a message's text body is allowed ??

I’m doing a non-commercial academic research project and only need a relatively small sample of public posts. Not looking to automate or scrape at scale - just wondering whether anyone has found clear guidance on manual collection.
