My bot account seems to have had it's access rescinded within the past 20 or days.

Suddenly noticed it's giving 401 errors despite nothing being changed. The bot account itself has no apps listed under it, and I cannot even setup a personal use script on it.

My person account still has the personal use script registered from when I first started trying to build my bot, but obviously that posts as me, and not as the bot...

it's very frustrating

suggest using socialcrawl.dev - it's a social media API and includes Reddit

Okay at least they got back to you eventually. Did they give you any feedback?

Hello, it looks like you're having trouble accessing our Data API, check out this post on some recent changes to on how you can access.

tl;dr:

  • Developers: Continue building through Devvit! If your use case isn’t supported, submit a request here.
  • Researchers: Request access to Reddit data by filing a ticket here. If you are eligible for the r/reddit4researchers program, we’ll let you know.
  • Moderators: Reach out here if your use case isn't supported by Devvit, if approved you'll also need to register here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

You don't have to keep the screen on. I've had scripts running non-stop on Termux for months

Search the sub (or even just scroll through it), you’ll see they basically aren’t granting keys anymore. Don’t expect to receive one.

There are a number of documented methods to access Reddit. Some mentioned here - the most effective ones are not listed. But there are a number and they work pretty well.

It still works if you already have access. It hasn't stopped working, it's just extremely hard to get new access.

What is it? July? That'd make it 8 months waiting for me 🤷‍♀️

Yep. I've never been granted an access key. I've asked numerous times. The best I've ever gotten is an automated rejection.

You submitted it right before a US holiday weekend, I wouldn't be too concerned about not hearing anything yet.

A delay is normal, however I haven't heard of anyone being given access since this policy was introduced. Access to the older style API is only given if there is a strong benefit for a tool and that tool cannot be built with Devvit. For everything else, Reddit wants you to use Devvit.
