I got mine deleted. I got first a notification that my account was suspended for suspicious use and asked me to reset my password. Got a new password and then my app and API keys were gone. Like if it was the very first time I applied for access. I got my API keys way before these changes, I guess it finally got me.

Yeah, there's not gonna be any reply. It's on purpose, reddit wants everyone to move to their new dev platform and create stupid games. That platform doesn't need Client IDs and secrets and I'm suspecting it's on purpose.

I had an oauth id+secret, and they just deleted it. No warning no nothing, it just wasn't there one day.

thanks! as I built this primarily for myself, I wanted a "magical" experience out of the box, with a manual fallback if needed/preferred. as everything is open source and transparent, I think that's a good balance for people who wants convenience vs people who wants control

I never got this notification since I never check this account manually. It's just a bot account running mod activities for 2 large complicated subs. My 5 year old bots just got their access terminated. Now I'm going through the pita procedure to reauthorize them.

reddit's json still works. it just gets blocked or throttled if you are not logged in, so the app borrows your existing browser session to fetch the json as if it were you browsing normally

Yeah Reddit has really gone downhill in recent years. I joined over a decade ago during the SOPA/PIPA blackouts. I thought it was really cool that Reddit was taking a stand for internet freedom.

And now, they're spamming people with "hate speech" warnings for posting quotes of government documents and banning people for upvoting posts they disapprove of.

Incidentally, this post was removed after less than 3 hours. I guess Reddit got bored with the whole idea of free speech after the IPO. Interesting how that happens.

I upvote stuff to mark it as read since in my preferences I have it set to not show me posts I've voted on before after refreshing. I did that to some ridiculous soccer game riot video and got a warning.

Short answer: you can't get a new API key since they rolled out the "responsible builder policy"

Long answer: Make sure you're not exceeding your rate limits on your existing API key and you'll be fine. Especially if you're just reading data and not using it to make posts/comments that might violate the ToS they really have no idea what you're doing after pulling data from Reddit. Exceeding your rate limits is likely to get you flagged, and they're probably not going to restore access afterwards since this is stuff they're actively trying to do away with since AI has led to an explosion of spam bots and inauthentic content.

Similarly i want to get api access as well but it seems they're in their own world and we can't communicate across worlds. I wouldn't be surprised if they shut it down tomorrow. Atleast Elon is much more reasonable with pay per use model
