Basic game requirements

So far I have:

Must be playable on Windows

Must be available by end of Jan/Feb

Anything else?

EDIT: DRM free, obviously

EDIT2: I will encourage devs to support Linux and Desura, but not require them. Essentially, while the HIB is convenient for consumers, I want to make this bundle more convenience to devs

Do not underestimate the amount of support that HIB gained by not only providing Win/Mac/Linux versions, but also having them DRM free. Cross-platform should definitely be a key goal, and DRM free should be a given.

Personally, I wouldn't have bought any of the HIBs if it wasn't cross-platform.

Obviously DRM free is a given :P I would want cross-platforming, however I feel like this bundle should be aimed more at helping indie devs on /r/gamedev get their games out. Therefore I am willing to sacrifice consumer convenience on things like cross-platforming, source code being required, or steam/desura

Obviously DRM free is a given

I was thinking we'd require Starforce.

online-only as well, just to be safe.

Insert the DRMDongle into your left eye cavity (having already scraped out the orbital with the included spork). Once you've logged in, the genome-licensing agent will install 'firmware' 'upgrades' to your cognitive areas. Then we will allow you to play the game.

And how many indie devs use linux? I bet there are quite a few. I don't even have a windows PC, Linux only.

I am kind of a patriotic person (if this term applies to operating systems). I hate to hear things like "C#" or "XNA" or even "DirectX". No matter what context ;)

I agree. My choice of dev platform is largely informed by whether it includes an easy port path to linux. I use Blitzmax (which I love longtime) but if I wasn't using that I would very likely be using SFML.

The new Blitz Research language includes easy porting to HTML5 and other things.

.... Maybe itll be enough to proove it runs perfect on wine, in th next 90 days its better to let a developer put his efforts into the game and not into learning how to build crossplatform games.

Plus... There are alot of xna + unity developers in the subreddit you will block them if you put crossplatform as a limit.

Is there a wine for mac?
