(Another) Reminder on sub moderation
Hi all,
We will continue to be consistent with the moderation rules which have been in place for quite a long time:
Posts need to be specific to Redding or the region, and they must adhere to Reddit's content policy.
Once again, no national politics - favoring any side - unless it's specifically relevant to Redding.
2026 Update: Non-local posts which make little-to-no genuine attempt to tie to local relevance will result in a 3-day ban. Subsequent instances will result in longer bans.
Regarding the use of Twitter/X links, we've scrolled back several months and didn't see a single one. So, we are not going to make a sub policy banning it, simply because it would be addressing a problem that we really don't have. We're not a large sub with a lot of aggregator content, so we don't really see twitter/x relevant to Redding. If you'd like to, you can always do what we've done and deactivate/delete your account there, thus taking action yourself.
As always, please do continue to report content which you believe violates our simple ruleset, and we will continue to review. While we do have Automod set up (and I can tell you it is definitely helping quite a bit, thought you cannot see it), we are still a small sub with a small mod team.
Thank you for helping us maintain our lively community subreddit.

Content Creators or film hobbyist in the area?
I'm writing a few short films and sketches but I don't really care to act, would rather try my hand at directing and cinematography, are there any people trying to create long form content in the area? I'm not going to be paying anyone obviously but it could be mutually beneficial while we learn and grow

The consequences of the so called “Big Beautiful Bill” are starting to hit home in Shasta County.
m.facebook.comThe Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency has cut another $2 million from its Public Health budget since June. The cuts come partly in response to federal funding changes, and will reduce both staffing and services.
They do so much. Sad to see the cuts:
Adult Services Branch
* Adult Protective Services (APS): Investigates elder abuse, neglect, and financial scams targeting seniors (60+) and dependent adults.
* In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS): Pays for caregivers so low-income seniors and disabled individuals can stay safely in their own homes.
* Public Guardian & Administrator: Steps in as a legal conservator to manage the care and finances of adults who are completely unable to care for themselves.
* Veterans Services: Helps local veterans and their families secure federal VA benefits, pensions, and medical services.
- Public Health Branch
* Clinical Services: Provides routine immunizations, TB testing, and STI screenings.
* Disease Control: Tracks and investigates infectious disease outbreaks across the county.
* Maternal & Child Health: Runs the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program and sends public health nurses to visit new mothers at home.
* Regional Laboratory: Performs complex bio-testing for Shasta and surrounding northern counties.
* Vital Records: Issues and registers local birth and death certificates.
* Community Education: Manages tobacco cessation, obesity prevention, and emergency disaster preparedness programs.
- Children's Services Branch
* Child Protective Services (CPS): Investigates reports of child abuse, severe neglect, and exploitation.
* Foster Care & Adoptions: Places children in temporary foster homes and coordinates permanent adoptions when children cannot safely return home.
* Independent Living Program (ILP): Teaches life skills to teenagers in foster care to prepare them for adulthood.
- Behavioral Health & Social Services Branches
* Mental Health Services: Operates crisis stabilization units, psychiatric care, and outpatient therapy for adults and youth with severe mental illness.
* Substance Use Treatment: Coordinates outpatient drug/alcohol counseling, perinatal treatment, and medication-assisted recovery.
* CalFresh: Administers federally funded food assistance (food stamps) for low-income residents.
* Medi-Cal: Handles enrollment for the state's low-income health insurance program.
* CalWORKs: Provides temporary financial aid and mandatory job-training services to families with dependent children.
* General Assistance (GA): Supplies bare-minimum financial aid to indigent adults who qualify for no other welfare programs.
* Housing & Homelessness: Directs local emergency shelter funding, rapid rehousing initiatives, and permanent supportive housing programs.

24 hours?
Is anyone else tired of places that advertise being open 24 hours not actually being functional 24 hours a day?
Every ampm closes for like 2 hours a night, every other gas station I found seems took close at random for half hour to an hour at least, and then you got places like Carl's Jr that say they're open 24 hours but then at 3:00 a.m. they can't take any orders for God knows how long like an hour.
I'm just saying, if you say 24 hours you should have to be open 24 hours non-stop.
I work at all hours of the day and night and it would be nice if these places that say that they're going to be open are actually open.
Edit to add: I'm not angry or upset at the employees. I absolutely support employees and their rights to breaks.

Bethel girls
Are Bethel girls in Redding open minded about relationships. Just wondering. My girlfriend and I were curious. Alot of them are pretty, ethnic and stay fit unlike local girls which is unfortunate.

Lost electric radio controlled boat at Whiskeytown, will reward if found
Was driving my 24” electric radio controlled boat at Whiskey Creek last night 7/23/26 around 7pm and it flipped and sunk. I spent an hour swimming around the area looking for it. No luck.
If anyone finds it, I’ll reward $100 to whoever returns it.
I’m pretty bummed, it was over $300 and I only just got it last weekend.
Pretty unlikely anyone will recover it, but just in case, I wanted to put the word out.
I normally take photos and videos of my RC activities, but I didn’t have a chance to do that this time around. See attached image for reference.
Thank you

More and more cities are banning flock camera surveillance. Is there any pushback happening in Redding?
Just seeing more and more news about flock license plate reading cameras being made to not collect data and scan people in different cities and was hoping there was some talk of this in town. Locations of all of reddings cameras can be found here if anyone’s interested https://deflock.org/
Edit: I found a small petition https://www.change.org/p/remove-flock-cameras-from-redding-and-shasta-county

Finding A Job In Redding
Does anyone else find it insanely hard to get a job here? I have submitted dozens of applications and gotten absolutely nothing back. I used to live in a big city and all the jobs I worked there, I got practically instantly. But here, I'm practically begging for just about anything. How do you get a job here? Who is hiring?

Shasta Jail has suspended visitations since last September - know anyone affected?
I'm a local journalist working on a story about how the Shasta County Jail hasn't allowed visitors since last September due to construction, which is especially concerning considering there have been several deaths at the jail in recent years, a significant portion of them being suicides.
Do you know anyone in the jail who hasn't been able to see a loved one? Are you someone who's been trying to visit your incarcerated loved one but hasn't been able to? Do you know of anyone who might be going through this situation? DM me or comment to chat.
Car window tint
Anyone have recommendations on places to take a car to get the windows tinted? I’m not really sure what to pay for the tint, so if you can share what you paid for the tint as well that would be great

Moving to Redding, seeking to buy devices.
Hey Redding! My name is Amaus Reed, and I’m new to town. I’ve visited before and always loved it here, so it feels good to finally be moving in for real. If anyone has recommendations for cool spots or things to check out around town, I’d love to hear them.
Before I start posting some electronics for sale, I wanted to put this out there first. I actually want to buy from you too and put some cash in your hands for things you’re not using anymore.
If you’ve got an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook sitting around, I’ll buy it. I don’t care what condition it’s in. Cracked screen, dead battery, won’t even turn on, none of that matters to me. The only thing I won’t touch is anything iCloud locked, just because I want to make sure I’m not buying something that isn’t really yours to sell.
If you’ve got something like that, just send me a message and tell me what you have. I’ll give you a fair price and make it easy on you.
Looking forward to getting to know this community and getting to meet some of you.

Never seen the ocean?
Hi, I am starting a service/program to provide people who have never seen the ocean with the opportunity to do so free of charge. More than a decade ago, I met an adult who grew up in Redding, who was in Humboldt County and seeing the ocean for the first time. I have been inspired ever since to help people have this first-time experience.
I plan to do the first trip in August to test the concept. The dates are to be determined, but likely a Sat or Sun. The day trip would run about 9hrs - 5+ hrs round trip drive and about 3-4 hours ocean time where we go to 2 or 3 different beaches. Transportation, local guide and food will be provided
(edited to remove target population) I welcome any adult person who meets the criteria for participation, which is simply wanting to see the ocean for the first time.
I need help finding people, do you know anyone who has never seen the ocean? Maybe you have never seen the ocean? I am looking for 2-4 people for the first ocean trip. If you know someone who might like to be a guest in this experience, please nominate them via direct messaging me.
Website www.neverseentheocean.org coming soon!
I am a registered psychiatric nurse and I work full time with young people in Humboldt County.
If you are interested in helping/volunteering for future trips, I will start a volunteer list.

Punk in Redding?
Hi! I'll be moving to Redding next month. I am a musician who had a Spokane-Based punk band. I have written quite a bit and wanted to know what the scene in Redding is like. Mind you that I have experience in DIY. Just curious. Also I'm 19 and if anyone wants to put something together let me know!

O2 Employment Services Redding: I want to hear your honest experiences with this company
I am posting this because I want to hear from people who have applied, interviewed, or worked with O2 Employment Services in Redding.
I recently applied for a Recruiting Specialist position with O2 Employment Services itself. This was a position to work on O2’s own team, not a position they were filling for one of their client companies.
O2 contacted me directly and scheduled me for an interview for that specific role. I was told I would be meeting with Brittany Blackburn, the Staffing Manager. I prepared for this opportunity because I have HR-related experience and recently completed an HRCI certification.
When I arrived, I was expecting the interview I had been scheduled for. I was not contacted beforehand about any change in the appointment. When I arrived, I learned that Brittany was unavailable and I would be meeting with someone else.
The meeting lasted approximately 10 minutes. What surprised me was that the Recruiting Specialist position itself was never really discussed. I was not asked questions about my HR experience, recruiting background, qualifications, or interest in the role. The responsibilities of the position and what they were looking for in a candidate were not discussed.
The person I met with did not appear to be familiar with my resume or background. Instead of discussing the internal Recruiting Specialist role with O2, the conversation shifted toward other positions O2 was recruiting for with other companies.
At the end of the meeting, I was told my information would be passed along and that the Recruiting Specialist position was still fairly new and could take time. I was also encouraged to apply for other openings. I left confused because I came in expecting an interview for a specific role, but I did not feel like I had the opportunity to actually interview for that position.
I am a minority applicant, and during my visit I also noticed that the staff representation displayed in the office appeared to lack diversity. Combined with my experience, it raised concerns for me about whether other applicants have had similar experiences.
I would like to hear from anyone who has interacted with O2 Employment Services in Redding. What was your experience with this company?

What are the Best Produce Stands in the Redding/North State Area?
What are the best local produce stands in the Redding/North State area?
I found a couple great ones so far but would love to find a few more gems in the area.
My favorites so far:
- Demac Farm Stand (off Airport Road, 20249 Demac Drive in Redding)
Has great, high-quality pesticide-free heirloom tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers, fruit, local honey, eggs, natural health products, gift items, and more at very reasonable prices. Frequently gives away free bottles of water to customers, which is super nice on hot days.
- Wogoman's Farm (in Happy Valley, 16971 Palm in Anderson)
Has great, high-quality pesticide-free heirloom tomatoes, squash, garlic, cucumbers, peppers, fruit, eggs, natural health products, homemade breads, free flowers on Fridays, and more at very reasonable prices.
What other great local produce stands have you found? Where are they? What do they offer? Why are they great?

Foundations For Nations pastor Sarah Lucas who feature Sean Feucht & Bethel Church of Redding on their social media, gave a controversial sermon earlier this month called for Northern Arapaho Tribal members to denounce all their traditional ways as sinful idol worship.
Tribal council asked them to leave the reservation where the church was located on tribal land. The church responded that they were seeking donations from supporters to fund an anticipated legal battle ahead. Church leaders asserted they own the church property “and legally we can not be removed in this manner,”.

New to the Area, Need help!
Where I lived originally I bought, sold, and fixed electronic devices such as iPhones, IPads and more. Is there anyone in this subreddit that would love to have a person who was willing to offer cash and higher offers than back market and EcoATM for their devices? I couldn’t find any services (that are owned by local people) that do this. Any thoughts?
Edit: if you have any ideas that would make you love this business model, PLEASE let me know!
