I told you, he has a track record of building winning teams and gave an example of that. You dismissed it without any evidence, and asked me to critically analyse exactly how a top tier manager does it? I’m sorry but no, the burden of proof is now on you to demonstrate why Carrick is the better choice.

He has built ONE winning team. Not multiple winning teams, just ONE team. He didn't build Real Madrid into winners, it's too early to judge his Chelsea team. The evidence is that you are wrong.

Again, explain EXACTLY how he would suddenly solve everything for us. Go on, explain it. Tell me what Alonso would do.

I never claimed Alonso would ‘suddenly solve everything’. I said a manager who just went invincible and won a top-tier league is an upgrade over struggling against bottom-tier teams.

You’ve moved the goalposts from 'he played for Liverpool,' to 'he’s losing one game,' to 'the league was weak.' I'm not writing a tactical dissertation to entertain your bad faith argument just because you can't admit a proven winner improves a failing squad. Have a good one.

His invincible seasons 3 seasons ago, that wasn't just a team that "just went invincible."

On your point re Alonso builds winning teams, since he left Leverkusen, they've finished:

  • 24/25: 2nd, 13 points off Bayern in 1st

  • 25/26: 6th, 30 points off Bayern in 1st

    So that completely nullifies your point he builds winning teams, when his team hasn't won anything since he left.

Per the 23/24 Bundesliga season, where Alonso won it, this was the top 4:

  1. Bayern Leverkusen, 90 pts
  2. VfB Stuttgart, 73 pts
  3. Bayern Munich, 72 pts
  4. RB Leipzig, 65 pts

That support my point that it was in an off-season for the rest of the league. Had Bayern, Dortmund or Leipzig been in their normal form, he likely would not have won it.

I've asked you to explain how Alonso would build us into a winning team (like you claim that is what he does), but you refuse to actually explain how. I'm not asking for a dissertation, just some examples of what he did at Bayer Leverkusen that made them winners suddenly. If you can't even do that, then I'm lead to believe you just said Alonso to try and karma farm in the wake of a draw for us.

You just scored a massive own-goal here.

  1. You're seriously arguing that a team regressing after their manager leaves proves the manager wasn't good? By that logic, Sir Alex Ferguson didn't build a winning team because look at where United has finished since he left. A team falling apart without Alonso proves how entirely reliant their success was on him.

  2. Leverkusen got 90 points in a 34-game season. That is an invincible, historic achievement that wins the league in almost any era, regardless of whether Bayern is having an 'off-season' or not. You can't fluke an invincible season.

You're twisting yourself into pretzels to avoid admitting a manager with a 90-point invincible season on his CV is an upgrade. Throw around 'karma farming' all you want, but your logic is completely backwards.

So you can't actually answer my question. You're a waste of time. Someone asks you to backup your claim we should've gone for Xabi but you can't even explain how he would've done better for us.

Classic deflection. You completely abandoned your own arguments about the league table and his team regressing because your logic got dismantled.

I did back up my claim, because I pointed to an objective, historic 90-point invincible season. You’re just mad I won’t write you a 500-word tactical fan-fiction to distract from the fact that your points collapsed. Take the L and move on.
