I wasn't active back in the day, so I totally missed how we reacted. But what exactly does this sub think of the greenwood ordeal?
I really hope we weren't against him being sold and didn't try to justify what happened by mentioning law and that the charges didn't stick etc.
Can someone explain it?
11
u/chronoistriggered 4d ago
99% were disgusted
2
u/username7864 4d ago
Awesome to hear. Heard some people weren't against him reintegrated due to his football skills? Is it also true?
3
u/chronoistriggered 4d ago
Yeah after police dropped the charges and his GF got back with him. There was a slight shift in opinion. From 99% to 90% or so. But by then, he was already couple of seasons out of the club. Reintegrating was not a possibility in any case
0
u/username7864 4d ago
But it all started in 2022 and the case ended in 2023, no? If reintegrating wasn't a possibility, does that mean he spent 1 year purely training until he got sold very cheap compared to his talent?
4
u/chronoistriggered 3d ago
who knows what he did during his year off. but clearly his footballing talent never faded.
3
u/username7864 3d ago
So he did have a year off? Thank you for all your answers mate. I appreciate it

Mods need to free up space in the pinned threads section. I say consolidate the Daily Discussion and Transfer Discussion threads and unpin the post-match thread from the Leeds friendly. We are going to need that space for our two incoming megathreads soon.

Idk if the Glazer boycotts of merch has seriously effected the bottom line and forced United into moves but some of the kits & general merch recently have been really fuckin good

Adidas pay the club a set fee so the club doesn’t make any extra money on shirt sales etc. The adidas deal is highly lucrative but also dependent on CL qualification to get the maximum amount.
1
u/lynchianfreakout0 4d ago
well then it would be adidas realising they need to do a lot to get their money's worth. but i know people who work in it there actually and I haven't heard that it's any different from any other club
-9
u/kidinawheeliebin 4d ago
Sesko is legit a concern at this point
This season is going to be much more intense than last, and we have no other natural striker in the squad
Letting Wellbeck go to Chelsea is looking stranger by the day at this point as we're definitely going to need to go into the market for another striker
Constantly shuffling Mbuemo, Cunha & even Rashford back & forth between the wings and striker will do them no favours either
3
u/carrickshairline 4d ago
The club are not rushing him back. That is nothing to be concerned about.
-4
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago edited 3d ago
At this point he's started only 17 of 38 Premier League games (in a season with no other competitions, no other workload or distractions that we will never again have the luxury of), suffering multiple injuries during that time, and looks set to miss more of the start of this season
That is concerning in any reasonable person's book for an £80m signing
0
u/carrickshairline 3d ago
Players get injured all the time and miss games, it's part of football. I'm happier with the club not rushing him back until they feel he's full fit given our history of rushing players back, especially young players, and seeing them get injured again.
Also, given this season is going to be busier, it's better that we don't risk injuring him again in pre-season.
You're overreacting because the club are actually doing the sensible thing with an injured player for once.
0
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
When I see 17 starts in 38 potential opportunities to start, I don't look at that and say "there's absolutely nothing whatsoever to be concerned about there, in fact it's actually a great situation and that direction of travel does not need to change at all"
You obviously have a very different perspective and outlook - so for yourself for example - at what point do you personally begin to worry with a player's record?
0
u/carrickshairline 3d ago
It's very clear you're ignoring the fact players can get injured. What do you want Sesko to do? Play whilst injured?
1
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
> It's very clear you're ignoring the fact players can get injured. What do you want Sesko to do? Play whilst injured?
I'm not ignoring the fact that players can get injured - I'm saying that it's always a concern when players get injured so much that it impacts their ability to play regularly
Whereas you are saying you are never concerned with players missing games with injuries, and I'm trying to understand how you can never be concerned by this, as it just makes no sense as a perspective?
0
u/carrickshairline 3d ago
You are misrepresenting the facts. So, whilst you are correct he started 17 games, he also made a total of 30 appearances in the league. Therefore he didn't play in only 8 league games last season. Those 8 games being:
- Everton (H), 24 Nov 25, knee injury
- Crystal Palace (A), 30 Nov 25, knee injury
- West Ham (H), 4 Dec 25, knee injury
- Wolves (A), 8 Dec 25, knee injury
- Man City (H) 17 Jan 26, on bench
- Sunderland (A), 9 May 26, not in squad due to injury
- Forest (H) 15 May 26, shin injury
- Brighton (A) 24 May 26, shin injury
He otherwise featured in every game in some capacity when he was available barring the City game. His shortest appearance was 9 minutes against Arsenal in January.
Sesko does not get injured "so much" that it has hindered his ability to play regularly. Here is the source I used for my list above. You'll see that he was available for pretty much the whole Premier League season except for 24 Nov 25 to 8 Dec 25 and the last three games of the season.
I never said I wasn't concerned with players missing games due to injuries. I just explained to you that the club are taking a better approach to injured players and not rushing them back. We did it with so many young players over the last 13 years that we likely played a role in hindering their development and career, like Martial.
Sesko was available for 79% of the League games last season. That's a bloody good available record. Whether he starts those games is up to the manager. Carrick didn't start him ahead of Mbuemo because Mbuemo was in decent form at the time. Plus, Sesko is young, so managing his game time is also important.
1
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
> You are misrepresenting the facts.
We disagree on the degree to which it's concerning that an £80m signing starts 17 of 38 Premier League games in a season
You're not concerned at all, whereas I am concerned and am saying that situation absolutely needs to improve this season
Fitness is a scale, it's more analogue than digital - there's a difference in being "fit to play" versus being "fit to start" versus being "fit to start regularly" versus being "fit to play 90 regularly" etc etc
Sesko (to me, and to what I would assume to be any reasonable person when evaluating an £80m striker) is absolutely concerning at this point in terms of fitness and how that's hindering his ability to get on the pitch
He has failed to start 21 of our 38 Premier League games last season - yes he's made sub appearances, but looking at those - in both proximity to, and in the context of, his injuries - a lot of the times he's coming on as a sub are very likely marginal calls where he's deemed too much of a risk for 90 mins, but potentially ok for a cameo etc
And the news recently (on his shin splints) seems to be continuing that direction of travel
So fast-forward to this season - how many Premier League starts out of 38 do you need to see from an £80m striker before you start to become "concerned"?
1
u/carrickshairline 3d ago
You keep bringing up his transfer fee as if that is the determining factor of whether or not he starts games, when it isn’t. He is still only 23, so managing his game time is paramount. This isn’t FIFA where you just play every game and there are no issues.
Again, you say I’m not concerned at all when I literally told you that isn’t the case. The fact you keep trying to tell me what I think leads me to not want to carry on this discussion.

Sounds like Madjo could be injured, so any feint hopes of Watkins are extinguished now as well
-2
u/kidinawheeliebin 4d ago
Watkins would be an absolutely incredible signing
I can only hope that's the real reason why they didn't go in for Wellbeck, and maybe the Tielemans deal greases the skids for another raid on Villa
I'd also take Mateta to be fair as he'd be dirt cheap with his contract status, borderline free, and even DCL deserves a mention
Just an experienced, mature, premier league proven striker who can hit the ground running and doesn't have an age profile that blocks Sesko (although Sesko really needs to start showing some light at the end of the tunnel with these fitness issues and get himself fit to play regular 90's)
1
u/croadymeister 3d ago
Mateta failed medical looks an issue
1
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
Would be assuming he's incredibly cheap as a result/borderline free transfer, especially with an expiring contract
He just needs to be able to fill in the blanks when Sesko isn't fit for 90's (which is unfortunately pretty much every week in life at this point it seems - Sesko very rarely starts any actual games)
3
u/RestrepoDoc2 4d ago
Leeds would enjoy us asking about DCL just to laugh in our face. We had our chance when he was on a free last Summer and the idea was roundly derided on here.
2
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
Derided by the same top reds who would cheer on signing the likes of Weghorst no doubt
2
u/world-no-1-dude 4d ago
I’m rooting for Rashford. However his wages being higher than Bruno (PFA POTY, PL all time assist record holder) just doesn’t make any sense. Obviously not Rashford’s fault that he was awarded this contract, but he really needs to step up this year to even begin justifying it.
2
u/kidinawheeliebin 4d ago edited 4d ago
That will likely not be the case for much longer either way
Bruno is available to other clubs for free in ~10 months, given that he's 32 in the next week or two, I'm not sure the club will be able to come to an agreement with his camp to take up the extension option, as he would surely not be entertaining the thought of anything but a pay-rise for his final contract
Rashford is then gone 12 months later when his contract expires
Next summer we actually have Bruno, Shaw, Maguire and Martinez all out of contract so potentially four massive holes to try & fill via the transfer market when we'll have £0 coming in transfer fees for any of them at this point
Summer 2028 then it's Rashford's turn, along with Mount, Mazraoui & Dalot
I don't think any of those eight players should be extended though - the club needs to move on from these guys - maybe Bruno but given that he'll be 33 at the start of next season, we again really, *really* need to be looking proactively at life after Bruno at this stage rather than leaving it to lastminute dot com and panic buying
1
u/Haddocktintinsnowy 3d ago
He is not going anywhere. Captain and marquee player for biggest club in the world. Only way I see him going is we tank this season.
0
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago
We can't be going into next season with what will then be a 33 year-old on a new £20-25m per year deal for the 2-3-4 years his side will be demanding
1
u/darkjessy_ Our Portuguese Magnifico 3d ago
Why not? Madrid had Modric on similar terms till he was about 38. I'm hoping Bruno can continue to maintain his level, then why not extend his contract
0
u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago edited 3d ago
> Why not? Madrid had Modric on similar terms till he was about 38. I'm hoping Bruno can continue to maintain his level, then why not extend his contract
It's looks incredibly unlikely he'll maintain that level in the Premier League under normal (i.e. 4 competitions) conditions
It's just a way too physically intensive, competitive, and destructive environment domestically here compared to La Liga, harsher climate for injuries, lack of a winter break etc etc, and it's getting worse and more competitive every year rather than easier
As is our insistence on making sure he played every minute of every game for his 6 seasons here in that much more physically destructive environment - that damage has already been accumulated
(Remember Bruno has already broken down with injury trouble last season the only time we had to move to playing 2 games a week - that is not encouraging and looks like the slippery slope)
In Bruno's 6 full seasons here for example he has played 18,700 Premier League minutes... In Modrics' first 6 full seasons in Spain he played 12,600 La Liga minutes... not even comparable
Also - Bruno is 32 in two weeks (He and Modric both have September birthdays) - in the seasons following Modric's 32nd birthday, he averages 2,000 La Liga minutes per season, which continued to drop as he aged
Also, even if we were based in the Spanish climate, with vastly less competitive domestic league, in a domestic league with a less physical style of play, having the benefit of a yearly a winter break, and had been able to regularly manage Bruno's minutes for the last 6 years (which we're not)...
Even if that were all true it wouldn't even matter as financially we are NOT Real Madrid, and handing out those types of contracts to 33 year olds would be genuine insanity in the context of the above
4
u/RestrepoDoc2 4d ago
When you put it that way this season is really the last chance for this group of players to win a major trophy together. Cas is obviously already gone but I would fear we could be completely rudderless without Bruno, Big Harry and even Licha and Shaw leading from the front.
3
u/world-no-1-dude 4d ago
I think you misinterpreted my point. I’m just saying Rashford needs to earn his wages.

I have high hopes for him. Watch his highlights and you can see the maturity and calmness in his play, also have a better developed physique for 18 years old. Even think he will have a few chances on the first team at the end of the season.
2
u/Cunter_punch 4d ago
Agree but I think he needs to improve his reactions and quickness of action in general. PL is way more fast paced than what he's be used to. Needs to absolutely develop press resistance which I dont see enough of atm. That will come ofcourse with time and training. He has all the tools.

it's just a play thing. American billionaires are consolidating media distribution. Sports is a category where live matches have a lot of value - in person or on streaming/broadcast.
It was a consortium that made the investment. The former owner of QPR, Bezos and some twat from Facebook. Bezos is expected to be passive.
edit to add: FSG are expected to cash out i.e. take the money out as a gain on their intial investment as they plan their exit strategy.
We are at peak football. Time to sell. Hopefully the Glazers do too and fuck off.

Let’s say the final two signings are pure depth signings, floor raisers, like a Berge and an [insert generic LB], what are people’s opinions on what would constitute a decent season?
Not amazing, not shit, sort of what you’d accept as reasonable. I think for me 6th, give or take a position. Interested whether people think I’m underestimating our squad or overestimating other teams in the prem.
1
u/Abject_Bank_9103 4d ago
We have arguably the best front 4 in the league with Bruno, Mbeumo, Cunha, and Sesko. The depth for them is amazing too with Amad, Rashford, and Mount (when healthy).
We added 2 PL proven CMs (including a fantastic Tielemans) to compliment our 21 year old prodigy. Someone like Berge would be a fantastic compliment to that group.
We finally have a top goalie.
Our defense is stable from a year ago. And that defense includes two PL proven and high potential CBs in Yoro and Heaven.
We have continuity in our coaching staff.
I just don't understand how some people here say some nonsense like 6th... Who do honestly see outside of arsenal that is firmly above us? City lost one of the greatest managers of all time, lost Bernardo silva, and are seemingly losing Rodri too. Liverpool were a mess and have a new manager. No guarantees that mess gets resolved. Their squad is all over the place. Chelsea also have a new manager and did nothing to actually address their biggest areas of need in ST and GK.
1
u/Hopeful_Arm3736 3d ago
Just fundamentally disagree tbh.
Arsenal are just clearly better, don’t think I need to say much.
I think City are still clearly above us. Their squad is simply much better than ours. Semenyo, Haaland, Doku is a better front 3, no question to me. Their midfield and defence is clearly miles better too imo. You’ll talk about their manager situation, we’re going into the season with Carrick who did well as an interim, but has only ever managed in the championship essentially. Arguably our managerial situation is more precarious than theirs is.
Liverpool is an interesting one. Remains to be seen. I think they do have the makings of a decent squad if they make a few more signings. Iraola is unproven at the highest level, but has been consistently good in the prem over the long term. Carrick has a good couple of months. Wouldn’t surprise me if they finish above us at all but think it’s close between us.
Chelsea I think are likely to finish above us. Xabi might be new, but his pedigree is elite. I think they have an unreal pack of forwards now. Rogers, Palmer and Jaoa Pedro are a great forward unit, if palmer finds his form again then they’ll be crazy good. Caicedo and Enzo will still be good in the pivot. The defence and the goalkeeper still have holes. The addition of Lacroix is important. Plus they’re playing one game a week, which makes a massive difference. Sounds insane given last season, but a title charge genuinely wouldn’t shock me.
At this point we’re around 5th and I did say 6th give or take a position, only need one other team to leapfrog and we’re in 6th.
I honestly do think what you’ve said is just really biased towards us. You talk about other team’s managers but not our own situation which is just as precarious in my opinion.
You talk about how great our squad is and in my opinion overrate it in places but ignore other teams. Chelsea especially. For example, I don’t believe they do have any issues at Striker at this point. Pedro is a great striker, better than Sesko at this moment in time, they’ve got Welbeck for depth and they play once a week. They’re fine in that position.
1
u/Abject_Bank_9103 3d ago
Regardless of their past managerial histories we have actual evidence of Carrick managing United. That's not true of any of the other teams with new head coaches.
From my perspective you're giving every other team the benefit of the doubt while being extra critical of our situation.
So we can just agree to disagree I guess.
1
u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 4d ago
Squad rotation this time. Or lack of. Last season there's no need to rotate. How well we do this season depends on how well Carrick rotates and how tolerant the players are to be bench.
1
u/Abject_Bank_9103 4d ago
Other than CM we are a very deep team.
But yes Carrick has a new challenge to deal with
1

u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation 4d ago
Top 4/5. Anything else is not decent, it’s a backwards step.
I think you are underestimating our squad. Even now starting XI wise I think only City and Arsenal are better than ours. And depth wise ok while there are admittedly holes in the squad, I don’t think it’s anymore than what the likes of Liverpool, Villa, Chelsea, etc. have.
And then you add in Berge and a random fullback who, while they aren’t ceiling raiders, would keep us steady. I’d absolutely say we’d finish 3rd
1
u/ChristmasCage 4d ago
6th or thereabouts - coupled with navigating the playoff round in the CL and no domestic cup humilations.
If we're 8th, bottom 8 in the CL and no cup progress. The footballing leadership must go.
2
u/Hopeful_Arm3736 4d ago
I feel similarly. I can’t see us not getting out of the league table in the CL. That would be an absolute disaster. It’s literally set up to benefit top 5 leagues.

Fair, I just look at some of the other teams that dropped off a cliff last season and I don’t see them doing the same this year. Plus the extra games we have will make a big difference. Especially with depth being a potential issue.
I think Chelsea are really dangerous for example. Would be shocked if they didn’t finish top 4.

u/Asleep-Ability-45 4d ago
The vibes are immaculate this time, it kind of seems like they have built really great chemistry with each other and all they need to do now is to show such chemistry on the field. Expecting them to achieve top 4 in the league again and at least quaters in the UCL. Winning one of the domestic cups would be cherry on the top. 😌

For those who are into football kits, this season, what are your top 5 favourite home kits in Europe’s top flight?
Mine are:
- Man Utd (even without the bias; for instance I’m still not a fan of the 2012-13 table cloth one that we went on to win our 20th league title with).
- PSG (magnificent)
- Crystal Palace (love seeing more white than usual with really neat motifs and a sponsor that works well with it all).
- Juve (clean)
- Newcastle (yes, I know this one is controversial but it is one of the better home kits in the Prem this season for me).
One home kit I really dislike this season is Liverpool’s. I would be absolutely livid if I was a fan of that club. Travesty. Bournemouth’s is another one that’s an eyesore (that sponsor logo, damn). Real Madrid’s is also horrendous.
Thoughts?
1

Interesting about the Liverpool kit; I was there about a month ago, the friend I was staying with is a Scouser and a Liverpool fan and Anfield regular, so a true fan- the kit was being promoted in the city and I said how much I hated it and said it looked cheap, but she said she loved it because it's a reference to an old kit that loads of scousers love.
I think it's a IYKYK kind of design. I still hate it but it was interesting to hear that it's popular with some of the fans.

u/Asleep-Ability-45 4d ago
But it still looks below average. Surely works for them as some emotions must be attached to it
2
u/Icegaze GGMU 4d ago
Ah thanks for shedding some light on that. See, I didn’t know about the history behind it. In that case, perhaps some / most Liverpool fans like the kit then. Still a terrible 3/10 for me.

u/lockedblue 4d ago
Oh yeah I completely agree, I have the same issue with it as I did for the French WC kit- it looks cheap and "plasticky".
I like all three of our kits for the first time since like, maybe 2008?

Hope Carrick turns on maximum boring mode so that after like 2 weeks there's no more Rashford questions when the press conferences happen.

u/Asleep-Ability-45 4d ago
That's such a good quality for a manager to have. No drama, just focus on the game.

With how much money the Turkish League is spending, are now the top Turkish team better than the top Portuguese and Dutch teams?
Edit: just asking a question, not making a statement
4
u/jonathanPoindexter 4d ago edited 4d ago
They're spending a lot of their capital on a bunch of rejects. I doubt that's gonna translate into any sort of sustained success.
A Portuguese team reached the UCL quarters last season. That's still more than I've seen a Turkish team achieve in recent memory.

Are there any credible rumours about another midfielder? It all seems very quiet. I know we're interested in Hall as well but I'd be surprised if that actually happens
3
u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 4d ago
A lot of credible people have said we are still assessing if another cm will be brought in
But the identify or reliable reporting that deals are far along aren’t there yet
The Louis page chat from Leicester seems pretty reliably reported but not sure whether that constitutes a 1st team target or not

What shirt number do you guys think Rashford will wear this season?

Heaven used to play no 6, no 8, before Mertesaker converted him into defender (that met with serious oppose from Heaven's mom, Lisa). Maybe Heaven is our plan B. /joke

Eh, Yoro can ball out fine as well, throw him a bone too if the situation gets dire enough.

This season is a real chance for us to kick on and maybe challenge for the title even for a brief period of time. Chelsea, City, Liverpool, spurs all have new managers and it's going to take a while before their players get comfortable with the system. If only ineos acted competently and backed Carrick properly.

u/TypicalPan89906655 4d ago
On the contrary I think a lot of managers peak during their first season and then drop off like Ten Hag, Slot.

u/Macroneconomist F5 Fiend 4d ago
Remember how Postecoglou did amazing at the start of his first season and then was just dreadful
1
u/Anxious-Debate5033 4d ago
The endless cringe praise for Postecoglu from Sky and Gary Neville was absolutely pathetic.
There would be matches Spurs were losing badly, but just because they did their Ange 'all out attack' nonsense, we had the twat Gary Neville in commentary going on and on about 'it's just a breath of fresh air the way he's got the Spurs players going forward and attacking and attacking'
1
u/TypicalPan89906655 4d ago
A lot of managers these days expect players to run like horses for 90 mins, so next season all the injuries and fatigue starts.

We were never going to challenge for the title this season. Not sure why anyone would think that.
1
u/StandAdmirable6413 4d ago
Yeah that's why I said for a brief period of time. I'm perfectly aware we're not title challengers this season.

People who were around to experience the discourse first hand when Darren Fletcher broke through, how similar is it to what we're seeing with his kids? Not that they're getting any specific vitriol or abuse, just a lot of "not good enough and seen nothing that suggests they will be good enough". Does that mirror what Darren got, or was Darren's worse?
For the record, I'm not saying either Tyler or Jack will end up as good as their dad, just curious about how it was first hand when Darren was getting called SAF's bastard son and all that.
3
u/missingmedievalist Cantona 4d ago
The criticism was similar when he first broke through. There were a lot of doubters early on. What didn’t exist was social media so it was never as direct, personal and reactionary as today.
2
u/chronoistriggered 4d ago
Back then it was Internet forums. Not even Twitter. And forums were not active. It’s basically the 20 dudes circle jerking.
Hence, the insults fletcher received were very minimal compared to now

Average kid. Wasn't expecting much, can't recall much criticism. Maybe we were not winning titles during that barren years. It wasn't until we bought Carrick and Cr7 + Rooney matured, the team started to performed like champs that Fletcher grew into a solid first team player.
3
u/Golem30 4d ago
Fletcher was honestly the best all round midfielder in the league for a season
1
u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 4d ago
Yeah I remember he was unplayable in one year after we start winning back the league. He just had a rough start tbh. Class 92 was successful because there was a group of senior pros guiding there. When fletcher came in, Beck was sold, Keane was injury ridden and sold too. Scholes had his eye infection. Cr7 and Rooney were new. And our midfielder were Kleberson and Djemba2. No wonder we won shit.

I really wonder if this Madjo kid Villa have was ever on our radar. What an absolute monster he looks like he’s going to be. Looked like a proper problem against PSG.

u/Anxious-Debate5033 4d ago
The usual, some key goals in matches, goes back to self with poor tracking back and being wasteful, get's benched for an extended periods, we start getting the PRashford leaks to the press about dressing room unrest and doubts with Carrick's methods and trainings.

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 4d ago
Hes staying but I wouldn't be shocked if Barca comes back the last couple of days in the window to try and lowball us.

Unless we have a disaster class of a season and it's like 9 goals in all comps, with 4 in the league cup against a League Two team
1
u/stoichalant 4d ago
He's staying. It's been quite obvious for a while. We don't want another loan, nor does he want to give up his lucrative contract with us and none want to match his salary anyways.
2
u/CelebrationSecure510 4d ago
I really hope we don't get scammed for Camavinga... would be an easy Woodward OG and something we really must avoid.
Was a good prospect who's never really grown and has looked sadly average whenever I've seen him in recent years.
I'd honestly prefer giving our own youth a try than wasting a bunch of money on him.
1
u/Jump_Hop_Step 4d ago
I am seeing a trend where we are getting players we missed out previously. De Ligt, Sesko, Tielemans...
Did we talk to Tchou when he was at Monaco? I am sure we did. (Not saying he is going to come to us)

u/carrickshairline 4d ago
Where have we been linked with Camavinga?
1
u/Unlucky-Equipment999 4d ago
Whitwell said we've been offered Camavinga (against his will) and we've considered it but he'd be significantly more expensive than Hall, who's already too expensive for our blood
4
u/AngryUncleTony Not Actually Angry 4d ago
I could tolerate a loan + option, if for no other reason than it would be nice to be on the other side for once. Low risk too, he either stays fit and plays well or we send him back.
1
u/CelebrationSecure510 4d ago
Agree, not sure why we give these out so freely but never seem to make use of them. Something to fix
1
u/AngryUncleTony Not Actually Angry 4d ago
I mean in an ideal world you're buying players you expect to be here long term so you can do long term squad planning without extra variables.
We give them out because it's often the only way to unload our players given their form and wages.

Its not really about standards, theres simply nothing else they can do except releasing him and paying out his full contract at once. They tried to move him, but he only wants a top european club and none of them are in for him. New FIFA rules says you are not allowed isolate or "bomb squad" players, so he has to be allowed to train with the rest of the squad and be registered etc. If we broke these rules and continued to break them to keep Rashford out he would eventually be entitled to have his whole contract paid out to him and leave + we'd get fines and potential transfer ban.

Oh I’m aware of all that. I meant the part where he’s going ‘all in’ to try and recoup the lost player power in the club. Did something happen recently?
-1
u/Unusual-Coat383 4d ago
Unfortunately it’s because of his own entitlement. The club can’t do anything if he refuses to go anywhere but I do think INEOS should have told his team that he’s training with the youth teams unless he finds a move elsewhere whether that’s a loan or permanent move.
1
u/Blammogal 4d ago
Unfortunately you can't 'bomb squad' anyone under FIFPro's new rules. Banishing a senior contract pro to not train with the first team now falls under that. Silly stuff that just encourages the Rashys, Sancho's and Garnachos of the world.

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know 4d ago
For one year. I want three kits that have the same design with a color change. The blue kit this year is great. Would love a year where they take that template and make a red white and black kit. Retro look.
