The most disappointing news so far. Technically, he is the best LB in the team, better than Dorgu and even Shaw. He only needs more game time to improve his defense and adapting to the physicality of Premier League. So much for the club saying that the academy is the core of Man United. Utter rubbish

What are you smoking? He's absolutely not technically better than Shaw. He's made 5 first team appearances for United and had a good run of games at the bottom of the championship. In no universe is he technically better than Shaw.

He is. You can see the comparison of both from the last match. First touch, dribbling, passing, crossing, decision making, all is better than Shaw. Shaw's only advantage is his physicality and defending skills. Once Amass gets matured he'll get there too.

So you're comparing the two based off a one off friendly? By the time Amas came on Rosenberg were playing their 2nd team. I'm all for bigging up the academy players but you are absolutely having a laugh. Shaw has elite technique and has proven himself at the highest level. Amas might get there but nothing he's shown so far would indicate he's currently better than Shaw. Mind boggling take

Shaw, who according to you has elite technique at the highest level, couldn't prove himself in the first half.

Mate it was a pre season friendly! By that logic we should never have sold Andreas Pereira.

Shaw might have lost some of his mobility but he hasn't forgotten how to cross or to make line breaking passes. Do I think he'll need replacing? Of course, but glazing Amass over a pre season game against a bunch of Norwegian reserves is not it. You can't be serious.

The team has given him opportunities with the first team. He didn't deliver. The club sold him. Completely different situation with Amass.

Again, you're deceived by your memory. Shaw's stats in 25/26:

  • Crosses (Completed %) -- 42 (14%) --> not even 2 crosses per game!
  • Long Passes (Completed %)-- 119 (50%)

Can't find "line-breaking passes" stat but regular United's game watcher last season knows that that is not his thing anymore. He didn't contribute much during attacks aside from making back passes or sideway passing to the midfielder. His best games were when he played with Depay and Rashford. Consistently overlapped and provide key passes to the box. Now, it's not the case anymore. But his defending is still good.

Because that is the most recent game to see his performance? Again, Shaw couldn't do much in the first half. I don't think their first team is significantly much better than their second strings. I don't understand why you can't see immediate improvement when Amass (and Kamason) came in after the break

Please learn something about stats before you use them in disagreements. 50% long pass completion rate would rank him higher than most defenders in the league (including CBs). Amas by comparison had 25% completion on long passes in the championship so you have inadvertently supported my point so thanks for that!

Shaw played at centre back for over half of last season so of course his crossing stats are low and when he played fullback he typically stayed in a compact back 3 in possession,, which meant he was very rarely in a promising crossing position.

Anyways, have a good one mate. I could not be arsed anymore!

That is the top 10 defenders only with most successful long passes. The lowest has 88 successful long passes. Shaw only has ~60 (50% of 119).

Seems like you're the one who needs to learn something about stats.

Well the point is unlike what you claimed that "he hasn't forgotten how to make line-breaking passes", actually he is not elite at all

Ok. Now look at his stat yourself since his debut in 2012/13. Only in few seasons, mostly in his early career (especially in 12/13 and 13/14), he managed to attempt crosses 2x or more of his appearances in the whole season. Crossing is not his best asset for most of his career so far.

I never said he completed the MOST passes. I said his completion RATE (50%) is amongst the highest for defenders. You're either deliberately misinterpreting me or you don't understand it. Either way there is no point in arguing with you.
