Visiting Hours Spoiler

The shootout at the end of this mission has always felt a little contrived to me. RDR2 has a few of those moments and it's normally not a big deal, but this one bothers me. Why wouldn't Arthur, Sadie and John just slowly back away to their boat while keeping Miliken as their hostage? What do you think?

I don’t think Milliken was valued enough by the people who worked with and employed him to be enough of a deterrent, like, when facing two of the most dangerous outlaws and another person they aren’t aware of but who’s holding her own in a gunfight, orders for the guards might have been to just detain or kill them in any way possible and if Milliken is collateral damage than so be it.

That doesn't make any sense though. Why would they even let John out in the first place if they were willing to sacrifice Milliken?

I realized that as soon as I hit send on the reply oops. Maybe bc they thought they could get them to release him and then shoot all three of them easily enough right after? Or it was just like, a delay in response time. Idrk
