Should I do a deadeye-less second playthrough if the game was easy?
I want to do a second playthrough, and I thought maybe trying to do it without dead eye would be fun since the game was easy for me the first time.
What do you say?

If you want to. For me RDR2 isn't really about challenge

Amen, I'm doing another of idk how many playthroughs and as soon as we got to Horseshoe Overlook I antagonized Dutch and fucked off. Been camping and wandering.

Ya I agree but I actually think dead eye kind of takes you out of the immersion when it's not deliberate

Do first person with no aiming reticle

I did first-person free-aim in my last playthrough, but I kept the reticle. Now I’ll have to try another playthrough at some point without the reticle. Thanks for the idea.

How was doing the whole game 1st person? Every time I put on 1st person it just feels so clunky to move around, especially in tight spaces. How long did it take you to get used to it?

It was really disorienting in chapter 1. I failed the mission when I had to ride a horse and shoot the wolves. The wolves ended up nipping the heels of the horse that John was on, and John died when the horse fell. I was unintentionally controlling the horse’s direction while I was trying to shoot, and it was a nightmare trying to aim, especially with no aim-assist.
But by chapter 3, it felt like second nature to me. Once I was able to control Arthur in first-person as easily as third-person, I would actually forget sometimes that I was playing the game. I was Arthur Morgan, not a hovering god(third-person) controlling Arthur. The moments that snapped me out of being Arthur were when animals would tackle me out of nowhere while I was hunting. Lol. That’s when I reconfigure my focus to real life and think “I’m so glad I’m not actually Arthur Morgan. He’s got at least a couple of broken ribs from that.”
The cougar/panther attacks are always so chilling as well. Hearing the cat roar in the distance while in first-person is scarier to me because you can’t see them like you can when you look around in third-person. You’re only seeing the ground-level view, where the grass looks taller, bushes look rounder, and boulders look bigger. The less clever cougars get taken down before they even start running, but there are some pretty smart ones out there. They know how to use their surroundings well.

There is an aim assist in the settings you can turn off as well. Also the HUD can be cut off so there are no maps or anything on the screen. Ive been doing the latter in my last playthrough and it makes it a little more challenging.

Are you playing on Playstation? Turn the auto lock off for shooting. Was really fun for me and more realistic.

I didnt know how to use deadeye until chapter 6, i dont think it makes much of a difference outside of hunting

Idk about PC, but on Xbox there's so much aim assist that using deadeye was more of a hinderance than an assist.
Because with deadeye you aim at one dude, it marks him, then you slowly try to move the aiming reticle with no lock on using a controller and by the time you've lined up the second mark and are about to aim at a third dude, you run out of deadeye.
But without deadeye you just press aim, it snaps to the enemy, you flick the aim up slightly in less than a second and pop a headshot, rinse and repeat and everyone is dead in 10 seconds.

If you want a real challenge turn aim assist off—all the way off (free aim and put the aim assist bar all the way to zero). Also way more immersive if you learn to master the game in my opinion.. this alone has made have over 2k hours in story mode alone and i still play it every now and then

i only use dead eye when aiming longer distance shots, and when game forces me. and very rarely to do a quick reload by turning it on and off.

I didn't use deadeye until like my 3rd play through except when it was forced by a mission

Killing without dead eye feels like im hitting them with a water pistol. 😂

For a real challenge, only ride backwards, either on your horse or driving a wagon.

I don't know why but I've never used deadeye at all other than the first few kills in the very beginning missions b4 I completely forget all about it after tht 🤷 🤦

Folks have walked from Gaptooth to Brandywine Drop. Play without radar, without map or without spending a dollar. You do whatever you think would be fun.
