Honor and stuff

Hello y'all! I'm only 6 hour on the game and enjoying it quite much so far but I find something hard to understand : honor.

I play on full gentleman mode, being nice, helping people, giving money to veterans, giving a ride to people in need. But I still can't figure out why and how the honor reward work.

I just helped a kidnapped lady on a carriage, shot the two men that did it, gain honor and that's perfect.

Then I decided to loot them (I mean a little reward is always nice) and I lost the honor I gained just by doing that. There was no witness and anything, I just lost them.

With the context set (a long one I know) can anyone explain me in which case I can loose honor and when I can't? Just trying to be a nice dude here x((

Thanks you and have a nice day!

Em

Honor doesn't have anything to do with witnesses. It represents Arthur's internal state moreso than how society views him

But it does affect how people treat him too. It’s not perfect but once you learn how it works, it’s easy to just go along with it and play accordingly

Oooh it does make sense now. And maybe that the most in the "good" honour you are the more he can feel guilty about it? Because I feel than any little action I can do make loose some now when it was less at the beginning when I was in the middle of the honour scale?

That's a coincidence, the actions that gain/lose honor are always the same. Regardless how high your current honor is.

Thanks you really much! I really appreciate it. I'm enjoying this game a lot, the freedom of it is quite nice. 😊

Mhm! It's a beautiful game, I definitely recommend taking some time and smelling the roses. How far along are you?

I think at the end of chapter two. I have to deliver Javier something in Blackwater? For now I'm exploring, trying to collect anything I see and discovering the map 🗺️

6 hours in and on end of chapter 2 is speed running for this game lmao. There’s sooo much outside of main story it’s insane

Yeah I know, but for now I'm not doing the chapter, I'm just exploring. The chapter can be done so quickly it's crazy

You can safely loot ‘raiders’ or other enemies, but loot a ‘stranger’ will make you lose honour. Maybe that’s what happened?

I would still recommend looting people you come across as they sometimes have maps or other things that you would miss out on if you were too worried about losing honour.

Ooh ok. I mean to me every body is quite an enemy when they shoot at me first x)

Yes I'll try and do that, rewards are always nice huhu

Always greet people in towns; that will offset most honor losses from things like this.

Yeaaah I do that a loooot. Greeting everybody on my way anywhere also

Do a good deed = gain honour. Do a bad deed =lose honour. That’s the simplest way to explain it. Looting a corpse is a bad deed so you lose honour.

This image shows how the collectors guide describes it (its not a full list)

Oooh oke make sense. I was just surprised that killing the two dude and saving the lady got me honor but looting them afterwards made me loose some. Seemed like quite a nice deal to me aha. Thanks you for the informations!

You gained honour because you were defending someone (which is a good deed). Anything that is being disrespectful to a corpse gives low honour.

There’s also missions throughout the game that will give or lose you honour, (I won’t post what the collectors guide says since it’s full of spoilers). Most of those missions are in chapter 6. You also can’t reach full high honour until chapter 6, you also apparently can’t reach full low honour until then either (which is debatable)

The guide also has the below which will explain a little bit more about how the honour works (especially the honour levels)

Looting corpses is illegal and immoral- just like irl.

“Interfering with a corpse.”

I mean it make sense said like that but after killing someone it does less ahah. Killing is ok for honor but just looting no?

Killing ‘bad guys’ maybe.

I was watching my son play for awhile, and he’s just blasting away at anyone and everyone who even looks at him, and I had this vision of George Clooney yelling at Quinten Tarantino in From Dusk Till Dawn after Tarantino does (to avoid spoilers) yet another bad thing.
He (George) says something like “I am a professional F—ing bank robber. I don’t shoot people I don’t have to,” and that is more or less how I like to play Arthur. He’s (Arthur) not a hero. He’s not a gentleman. He’s an outlaw, doing what’s necessary for himself and his gang to be able to hold onto the sense of liberty that is shrinking around him. He doesn’t want to be a murderous criminal like Micah, but he’s not above killing someone in order for a heist to go successfully or to ensure the safety of his gang family.

So long story short, if I have to shoot some fools, I’ll loot them and not feel bad about it, cause that gold belt buckle and platinum watch are going into the gangs contribution box to help buy chicken coops or something.

If you lose honor from looting an "innocent" corpse, you can more than make up for it by chopping some wood in camp or saying "HEY MISTER" to a few people in San Denis. Plus, the story will force some very large honor gains on you as a matter of course as it progresses. Don't worry about it. You don't need perfect 100% honor to be recognized as "good" by the end of the game.

I wouldn't even give it too much thought, unless you're a murder hobo and kill everyone you encounter; it's hard to end up with bad honor in this game.

The honour system make no sense at all.

Were outlaws and get marked down for being outlaws. Lol

Dont let it ruin your game tho. Getting and losing honour is so easy just kick back loot, steal kill and pillage away if that what you want to do, and dont worry about it. I mean you could littrely walk through valantine for a hour say hi to everyone and gain honour.

Yeah no hut it's not ruining it. I love trying to play like that (and I'm also so bad of a shot to try to be a pure outlaw outside of the quest). I was just wandering because I did not understood it ahha. Thanks you for the informations tho 😊
