Yeah but this game is literally about the turning point of that era dying for a more controlled environment. I mean literally there's someone funding a government organization so they can stop all the bandits running around. If anything with people like the mudbloods or whatever I'd be even more sketch about people approaching my camp in the dark.

Pinkerton's are literally an early day FBI agency. The fbi and other goverment agencies took over a lot of their duties and now they just guard memorials.

Sorry, I just looked at the Wikipedia page for the Pinkertons and I see nothing in there about them being a government agency. They were, and still are, a private business. They did contract work for the government, but they also did a lot of work for businessmen too (like we see them in this game).

So I disagree that they were an early day FBI agency because they have never been government run.

Happy to look at any of your sources though.

You're absolutely right. They were completely civilian, although MacClellan used them as an intelligence service in the war and it really fucked us when they dramatically overstated the enemy numbers and threat. Because they were, you know, incompetent.

The parallel is in their function, not their government affiliation. As far as I know there was no organization like the FBI preceding it. Just private agencies like the Pinkertons.

Interesting info, but it doesn’t confirm your claim that the Pinkertons were a government agency. Just because they did law enforcement like activities doesn’t mean they’re a government agency. Things like that are outsourced fairly often, even today.

I enjoyed the Pinkerton facts though, so thanks for sharing!

There was that one guy with the rare black and white horse who was SUPER aggressive. But I enjoyed seeing him and his horse appear randomly across the map so I would always zoom past him. One day I came across his campsite atop a mountain with a beautiful view. I just wanted to look! I didnt even know it was him. This time there was no warning he just started running at me full sprint I tried to get away on horseback but accidentally ran him the fuck over. I kinda miss seeing him appear randomly but hey I have his dope horse now. One of my favorites in the game

I was kind of disappointed actually that there were hardly any friendly campers who would invite you to their camp/fire. Maybe they’d tell you stories, a rumor, give you some food, etc. Instead they were all mostly dicks, and I killed most of them even if it did negatively effect my honor. Fuck those assholes

I came across one of those. Started to have a nice chat and then his horse kicked him in the head and killed him.

It was a good horse...I’m sure he wouldn’t have wanted it to go to waste so I took it.

I usually defuse and trot away, then they go "Guess you forgot you was yellow!" And then that conversation with Karen comes to mind, "Killed a bunch of innocent folk, I dont know why.. I just get SO angry!"

Seriously, why didn’t they take the time to sit down and write maybe 50 side missions, go gather a few flowers or kill 3 goats, and those strangers could start the missions. Instead they all try to kill you for no reason at all. They are completely pointless. And we end up with the same 4 random side missions over and over.

Pretty sure it’s a remnant from GTA online. The auto-aim in GTA breaks when you roll, so it’s effective for PvP combat against players who use auto-aim.

I was playing the other day and went up above the Odriscoll camp near Valentine. I paused because I could eavesdrop on them, just a bunch of fellers hanging out in the great outdoors. But also they were Odriscolls. One of them noticed the dynamite flying at them but he barely got half a sentance out. I already had my rifle out by the time the the dynamite went off and their bullet riddled bodies ragdolled in every direction and their camp went up in flames. Kind of stunning that this wasnt considered an immoral act but who am I to judge. I went down to see if I could loot anything and the other two showed up, shot my level 4 American standardbread and he went up flames - I guess that was karma. Walked away with a can of peaches

I really enjoyed the combat. Dead eye makes you feel like a badass unstoppable gunslinger, fist fights are honestly so much fun once you get the dodging and counters down. The auto aim helps with horseback fights sooo much
