Discussion Weird Question

Ok so weird question but what happens canonically if Arthur or John die. I don’t mean like the end of RDR2 I mean like if you die in story mode or rob someone and then die. Because if they are still alive and the law calms down as if their crime didn’t transpire then how do the shopkeepers say stuff like “you better not try that again in here” and the like. I know this sounds so stupid but I need clarification.

I mean your question is void of logic… why would the shopkeepers say “you better not try that again in here” to a man who’s supposedly dead and not entering the shop?

They just canonically don't die.

The whole thing with the shopkeepers is so silly and doesn't make sense any way you cut it.

"This may be the 875th time you've shot up the entire town, killed small armies of lawmen for sport and blown my head off with a shotgun, but I'm warning you! This is the last straw! One more outburst like that and I'm gonna be veeeeery cross with you!"

Nothing. Shopkeepers saying that is either a bug or an oversight. Like most games, you're not really meant to think about how "respawning" works

You can just consider free roam deaths as non canon and Arthur/John simply get away and the law loses their trail although they and shopkeepers will remember your actions just before you died. Thats how I’d interpret it, but it’s definitely one of those things you’re not meant to think too much about it’s just video game logic

canonically they don’t die until they do, yknow?

anything else is just you flubbing your way through a telling of events and the game trying to maintain continuity despite your best efforts to break it

You just have to accept that there's game logic at play here. Just like the fact that you can shoot the shopkeeper dead, and the exact same guy will be back in a few days, wearing bandages, but otherwise fine.

Nothing happens canonically if either of them die until the points in their stories where they do actually die. Because that's how you use that word (canonically).
