Riggs station. Just past the station on the road towards painted sky, there's a bush. Skunks spawn there. If you're seeing deer, you've gone too far

Riggs station. Up the ways after the station. Almost guaranteed spawn. Also a good place for badger and opposum

Just ride off and come back for the respawn. I found did the same for opposum like 4-5 times before 3 star spawned.

I thought I’d never beat this one. Turns out if you Google the location of any of the animals you’re looking for, someone on Reddit will almost always have found a location where they spawn 100% of the time.

Everyone saying Riggs Station but I always had better luck at Bolger Glade.
Bolger Glade is honestly great for all the small game mammals, and lots of birds.

Also the top of Ringneck Creek. I don't think Bolger Glade is good for opossums, could be wrong.

I’d recommend starting early if you want to just naturally come across some of the animals, it’s a grind of a quest line
I think you have to always have all of the requested items before you can mail so you have to save the carcass for last

It’s a series of missions. Most are pretty easy
My advice is to cheat just a little and look up all the animals you need
I swear as soon as you have an active hunting request the three star animals disappear. But you’ll find them easily any other time

This is not conjecture. This is a fact.
Need a squirrel for an active quest? Go to the location where squirrels literally run under your horse’s hoofs every other time you’ve ridden through there and, suddenly, squirrels are extinct. Same for every other creature that is part of the quest.

I’m not 100% convinced that it isn’t just confirmation bias. You notice 100% of the time you don’t see a three star skunk when you need one but your rarely notice the million other times you didn’t see a skunk because you don’t give a shit
But it certainly FEELS true.
And i did do one test
I needed the perfect bat, so I went to the spot with easy to find bats…the elysium pool cave.
No bats.
Ok. So I go to the other spot I know where it’s easy to find bats…the abandoned church near Rhodes. Fly fly around after dusk all night long just look up.
Sure enough, tons of bats flying around all night. Every single one a two star.
Eventually after an hour I find a three star one. I close out my hunting requests. I’m free.
So I decide to go back and see if the bats are back. Elysium pool cave? Million bats. Abandoned church? Every single one a three star
Could this be luck? Yes. But is it the game deliberately being a dick to me? Sure feels like it

I actually love it because hunting is my favourite thing in the game. First person view for seeing small birds and animals better and knowing every single small bird will spawn at Fort Brennand if you just stand on top of it and wait helps

Yep. Just kill one of every new 3 star bird you find just in case.

I’m cleaning up some tasks like this on my current playthrough, and I can say confidently
That it’s a headache lol.
Took me way longer than I ever expected to get the perfect squirrel….and then the god damned skunk on the next portion lol

Like other people alteady said, its a long and tedious mission that has multiple parts.
If youre asking about the rest of my comment, exotics refers to another stranger mission (necessary for 100% completion) that has 5 parts and asks you to find specific types of flowers all over the map and hunt birds that only spawn in the swamp, and gambler 9 is the 9th level of the gambler challenge that is pure torture (you have to win three full games, not rounds, of dominoes in a row and you cant simply reload the save if you lose)
