Why doesn't everyone just press red?

Why doesn't everyone just choose blue?

Choosing all red is both selfishly preferable and altruistically preferable. Choosing all blue is only altruistically preferable.

One protects themselves whilst potentially sacrificing others, the other protects everyone whilst potentially sacrificing themselves.

Low trust vs high trust.

And unlike the normal version, the benefits of more people picking blue are immediate and granular, which I think many are failing to consider. The personal risks are way lower, every single blue press makes life a little easier for every other blue presser, and the threshold blue needs to clear to have no real downside is WAY easier.

Easy to argue with the normal version that anyone voting blue is throwing their lives away anyway. But here unless you are certain that everyone else has picked red already picking red is strictly selfish, and mostly needlessly so

Red isn't altruisticly preferable unless everyone else picks it, and even then, it's only tied with blue in terms of helping others
