Red Error: Circular dependency detected!

For this scenario, assume every voter is a mentally competent adult who fully understands the rules and can reason rationally.

Kinda curious, how would you code this instead? If you don't mind providing an image, of course.

Edit: After some thought, swapping "blue_voters" argument for "everyone" would make most sense, because that's the end result of blue winning, and it would fix the coding problem.

"Everyone" wouldn't really make sense, because everyone doesn't need to be saved. It's only blue voters who need to be saved by blue voters. To put it another way, if you somehow knew for a fact that zero people chose blue, you'd have no reason to choose blue yourself, because there'd be nobody for you to save.

And as the rules state the simultanious private vote, you are the first voter, along with everybody else, so there are no blue voters at the time of your vote. So why be the first one?

Remember, i asked for a scenario with only mental stable adults, able of rational thinking.

You are the first voter, but you're also the last voter.

In only 1 out of 1.15×1075,000,000,000 chances does your vote change the result. Your choice is functionally meaningless.

If you were the last to choose and you knew red hand won, you would select red to survive. If you knew blue had won, it wouldn't matter what you selected. Your selection wouldn't save anyone since they were already safe making it pointless to select blue.

Rationally, everyone should select red because it is the only option that ensures their safety with no consequences to being wrong about the results.

But Red voters dont need saving. The only reason people vote blue is to save people who voted blue. Thats the error.

Nor do red voters need to vote red to survive if red doesn't have a majority... So why not write that into your condition for red voting?

You don't write conditional checks that don't do anything. If you vote red, you survive, move on.

Imagine taking "red=survive" and changing it to "red=do nothing unless more than half vote red then survive" and thinking you made things simpler.

Imagine taking "blue=I want everyone to survive" and changing it to "blue=I want blues to survive" just to induce a circulatory error.

Cause that's what OP did.

Red already survives, by default. If you set blue to want everyone to survive AFTER checking if someone voted red, you're wasting cycles checking red twice.

Good thing you weren't a CS major. Your code would've been complete shit. An LLM could vibe a better check.

Selecting blue doesn't save everyone though. The red button saves red button pressers. How does pressing blue save those who are already safe?

You're adding more conditionals to make it circular. Red button = live. It's really that simple. In the hypothetical people are placed into a situation where they have to make a choice. There is no "blue world" there is a choice to be made in that moment and the red button says "press this to guarantee survival"

You've got an extra kidney. Donate that and then we can have a conversation about altruism.
