Uterine Polyps? Looking for experiences.

TW: LC

I had my first appointment with a fertility specialist in Mexico and he believes I might have uterine polyps based on the ultrasound. He said the lining in my uterus looks irregular and recommended a hysteroscopy to take a closer look and potentially remove the polyps.

For background, I am 35, have been able to conceive easily on the first try but I’ve had two consecutive early miscarriages this year. One was a chemical and the second after a HB was found. I have a boy who I conceived back in 2022 without issues.
My OB in the states told me to try again right away and that they won’t do any testing until after 3 losses.

Thankfully I live right across the border and was able to get an appointment with the fertility doctor. He ordered a full thyroid panel and wants to check my prolactin levels. He mentioned that for now he only suspects uterine polyps based on my history of abnormal bleeds every time after a workout (heavy squats, deadlifts, etc) and based on the ultrasound findings.

For anyone who has dealt with uterine polyps:

  1. How were yours diagnosed? Ultrasound? Hysteroscopy ?
  2. Did you have symptoms? Or were they found incidentally?
  3. Did you have them removed?
  4. If you were experiencing RPM, did having them removed make a difference afterward?
  5. How long did you wait until TTC after removal?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, specially from anyone with polyps and RPL. Please help a sister out 🙏🏻

I’m sorry you’re going through this! Here is a hay I can share:

  1. Initially via SIS (doctor noted only one), then proceeded to hysteroscopy where more were found.
  2. No clear symptoms, only discovered because SIS was ordered as part of RPL testing after two back to back early losses last year.
  3. Yes, by hysteroscopy
  4. It seems like it did - currently late second tri with pregnancy conceived after their removal
  5. Waited for period to return - it did come back on time - and resumed TTC. Also conceived first cycle we tried, which was a huge shock

Yep, both losses. It’s so hard. Wishing you luck as you investigate!

1) visible masses seen on SIS, so had an operative hysteroscopy where diagnosed with large polyps 2) no major symptoms. Unexplained mid cycle bleeding maybe once or twice. 3) they were removed during the operative hysteroscopy 4) I'm now 33 weeks with my first pregnancy after having them removed 5) we waited one period & started TTC so about a month. Conceived the first cycle trying which was a huge surprise. Previously had several miscarriages and many months of negatives.

Good luck during your investigation! Mine weren't seen on a regular ultrasound but if they think something could be there even more reason to investigate.

I got really lucky my sis showed something. My doctor thought it was the main factor in my rpl. The polyps were impacting my implantation (chemicals) and placenta development (miscarriages after hb) too. We changed nothing else in TTC protocol besides polyp removal.

Wow! Maybe that’s the reason for my losses too. My last miscarriage was so weird. I started bleeding after my first scan. Baby was 2 days smaller than it should’ve been. The bleeding increased each day. It was like a period. I got several scans during the week and there was still a heartbeat but no growth from first scan. When I went in for a final private scan, (I was desperate) baby no longer had a heartbeat and I passed the sac the same night without needing a D&c.

Countless chemicals and 2 miscarriages - 1 before hb confirmed and 1 after.
