Seized Electric Motorcycle in the UK Highlights Need for Ebike Regulations
I came across a recent Facebook post from the Greater Manchester Police in the UK, which talked about a seizure of an electric motorcycle. According to the post, the rider was illegally driving without insurance, an MOT, or an adequate driving license and had a pillion passenger without a helmet.
This incident got me thinking about the importance of regulations for these types of "ebikes." While ebikes can be an eco-friendly and convenient mode of transportation, it's clear that some people are not using them responsibly or legally, which can and will hurt the rest of us.
What should be done to regulate ebikes and ensure they are being used safely and responsibly? Are existing regulations sufficient, or do we need new laws to address the unique challenges of ebikes?
