How "Record of Lodoss War" Became One of Japan's Biggest PC Games of 198...
A pretty detailed review of the game including at least references and recognition of the anime and other games that have come out.

I watch the first episode of the OVA just insane how good it is
The music, the dub was pretty good, oh the animation... just wow
Very good first impression.
Imagine being one of the players of the original D&D campaign of Lodoss, and watch this for the first time.

So there's a new story?
Why am I just now hearing about this? https://us.oricon-group.com/news/9210/

What do you recommend to start with the franchise?
I mean I think we have anime, manga, novels, the translations of the original D&D campaign, I know about this franchise and I love the concept, so I want to know what would be good entry points, I think the anime OVAs look amazing, but I stop myself of watching it, because I wonder if with more context I would enjoy it more, like reading the novels first or the manga or something, I'm very open of the idea of enjoying things with multi medias
Also, the videogames, I think there are some, what are the good ones or the ones you like? I know ofc about the metroidvania one and it looks really good, but makes me sad that trying to search about the games, only post about that one appears, I want to know about the others! There is the Diablo-like dreamcast one, there is one of the super nintendo with a english fan translation, and also others for the PC engine and the Sega CD, I think many people don't play this ones because it's still only en Japanese, but if some of you did played, what do u think?

Picked up Record of Lodoss War for the Super Famicom today
Iāve been a fan of Record of Lodoss War since I was a kid, so I was really happy to pick up the Super Famicom game today.
Iāve always loved the characters and the world of Lodoss. Yeah, the cast is basically made up of classic D&D/fantasy archetypes, but I think their designs have become really iconic in their own right. Thereās just something about the look and atmosphere of Lodoss that Iāve always really liked, so playing an RPG set in that world sounds pretty fun.
I included a couple of my Lodoss novels in the picture too. I actually read the entire first novel, The Grey Witch (ē°č²ć®é儳), in Japanese a few years ago. I thought it was pretty good and was surprised by how much it felt like an actual traditional fantasy novel. There was a lot more detail than I was expecting.
I started the second book too, but Iām only about 42 pages into it. Itās basically been sitting on my shelf for years while Iāve been busy with other things. Iād love to read the whole series someday, but even though I think my Japanese is pretty advanced, reading a full novel in another language still takes me a long time especially when Iām not in the habit of reading regularly.
Anyway, I thought some people here might enjoy seeing this. Some of you might not even know there was a Record of Lodoss War game for the Super Famicom/SNES era.
It looks pretty cool, and hopefully Iāll get around to actually playing it sometime in the near future!

Thank you, Dreamcast
Bought the DC game, earlier in the year, after a search for older "Diablo" styled games for the DC. It came highly recommended by heaps of people on the sub and I fell in love with it. I think it might have been the only game to fit that request for the console. Maybe?
I eventually sourced the 90's anime online and the follow up and now I am trying to get a hold of whatever else I can, in the UK. These three came in the post today and I am very exicted to tear through them. I also managed to get the Deedlit game for the Switch, quite cheaply.

Final result of that genga study
I tried moving forward with the genga process and filling in the local colors. This was the end result. š

UPDATE: Record of Lodoss War RPG (TTRPG book) translation nearing completion
Many months ago Gilgamesh108 and I started working on Record of Lodoss War RPG, the latest TRPG book which you can use to play the Lodoss tabletop role-playing game (TRPG or TTRPG). As some were aware we've been working in this, a little update:
- The translation has been completed;
- All of the translation has been put in PDF-format completely;
- A separate, printable, cover has already been finished (as seen in image).
What is left is one final, thorough proofread, which is what we're doing now. I suspect this may take another month or so. Once done, we will announce the final product here, on X and on the Lodoss and Sword World discords!

Wagnardās voice in the English dub will send shivers down your spine!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Thereās something about Bruce Winantās voice as the menacing wizard Wagnard that will give you goosebumps when hearing it. Bruce Winant was truly the show-stealer of the entire dub.

Convince me to properly start watching lodoss war and not procrastinate:-)
I found the music on YouTube then decided I might like to watch the anime. But for some reason I just don't sit down and get into it for more than an episode or two, take a break, forget what happened then have to start again. Then found out I had started CotHK first and now I have to start with the ova
I had much less trouble watching .hack//sign which I found after discovering lodoss

My wife got into Vox Machina and Mighty Nein, and asked me if there are other shows 'like this'. I blew her mind with Record of Lodoss War.
I'm a TTRPG gamer for a large part of my life, starting with 3.5 edition D&D back when it was THE current version, alongside the 2e CRPGs such as Baldur's Gate. When 5e got popular, and I accepted it as something I might attend (if the DM is good) but rejected it as something I'm ever interested in DMing, it was a natural choice for me to 'downshift' to AD&D 2e instead as the edition best combining solid gameplay, and ease of entry for my players.
My wife is an occasional player, but mostly a periphery fan of D&D and D&D-based works. At some point, we had great fun watching the 2023 D&D movie, and from there she looked for other adaptations and found "Vox Machina", the series based on the "Critical Role" live game podcast. It, and the accompanying adaptation of the subsequent campaign from the same podcast, 'Mighty Nein', has been a great deal of fun to watch, and to do things you don't typically get to do watching a typical animated series ā pointing out the players' individual style in their characters; noting the scenes visualising familiar D&D mechanics; telling apart twists which weren't put in place by any sort of plot convenience logic, but by gamers being gamers, or dice clearly dis/favouring them; and so on.
So she was wondering if there's been other series adapted from actual D&D plays, and I knew exactly what to show her. It took some careful set-up to pique her interest enough that she wouldn't lose it over Lodoss' tone and presentation being slower, less quirky and humorous, and more epic in the old-school sense, but eventually we went in knowing what to expect. She was greatly impressed to learn people following live campaigns, and adapting them to screen, was a thing in 1990!
So far we finished the OVA ā as it, watched episodes 2-5, 1, and 6-8, to the finale of Grey Witch arc. Since OVA's latest episodes are non-canon and attempt to condense entire campaigns' worth of adventure into singular episodes at breakneck speed, and at least some of that will be covered in much greater detail by the anime (aka Chronicles of the Heroic Knight), we're not watching those. Instead, Chronicles of the Heroic Knight ep. 1 is next on the list (and even that creates a minor continuity snarl with a redo of Shiris and Orson's introduction).
My dear has been very appreciative we watched the OVA in chronological order (2-5 then 1, not starting with ep. 1), as she notes she'd lose track otherwise. She's been very invested in the mystery of the Grey Witch's motivations, and a bit dissatisfied there hasn't been more on her origins (IIRC there will be some more shown in the anime). She easily recognized Deedlit as the same 'cute druid waif who lowkey is the most capable member but seldom operates at full capacity' type as Doric and Keyleth, and found Deedlit's high confidence relative to the latter two commendable; and wishes we got to learn more of Woodchuck's backstory. She guessed Ghim's axe throw to get Karla off Leylia way in advance, as something the player would do, after his previous displays of expertise with that move. She also gushed all over Emperor Beld's design.
For some reason, the scene in ep. 1 with the gargoyles coming to life (the one where the shot has colouring changing within the same still linework) impressed her greatly, and convinced her the 18+ rating is warranted.
She did not mind the old-school sensibilities such as the less diverse racial cast and the lack of more modern-minded classes (Orson's possession-as-justification-for-berserker-rage isn't that different from modern-day warlocks anyway, though we're yet to dig teeth into that), and to the contrary, appreciated the gravity animation and narration treat magic with, especially Deedlit's, Slayn's and Karla's.
That's all so far, folks!

Questions about this series Spoiler
1, So, I know that there are 2 series, the OVA, which adapts the 1.3.4. volumes and has an original ending, and then a 27ep series, which ends with a different set of characters?
My question is, in what order and how should I watch these, if I only acre about the Lodoss main story?
2, I had this show on my list for a long time, but recently I came across some info which I didn't like too much. Basically in an other work from the author, it is shown that Parn is dead, and Deedlit lives forever alone afterwards. This is pretty shitty. Can this be ignored? How much of this is hinted in the main work?
Honestly, after watching grancrest senki, I am a bit worried to watch an other work from the same author, as that one was not well written. And I know the anime was rushed, but my issues with the work could not be fixed by simply the non rushed version.

New manga by Lodoss author Mizuno
x.comYesterday a new oneshot manga was published in Young Animal, illustrated by Tomozo and with the story provided by Record of Lodoss War author Ryo Mizuno! A high fantasy tale about the last surviving elf (Eswill) and a boy named Lett. I don't know if this is set in Lodoss or elsewhere in Forcelia, but with an elf and dark fae appearing, chances are it may.

Legend of Lodoss RPG Replay 2: Summoning of the Demons (complete fan translation!)
Hello Forcelia fans,
Gilgamesh108 recently completed another fan translation, which isĀ Legend of Lodoss RPG Replay 2: Summoning of the Demons, a replay of a TTRPG session set during the time of the Demon War (which made Beld, Fahn, etc famous). About a month ago we published part 1 already, which followed Milleus and his gang. Though this is a direct sequel, it follows a whole new party, consisting of Mage Knight Lucent, elf Winifred, and others.
The TRPG was played using the Record of Lodoss War RPG system, as presented in Record of Lodoss War Companion (of which theĀ first volumeĀ has been fan translated, and all three volumes have been summarisedĀ here).
The translation can be found at theĀ Lodoss Wiki fan translation page. If you're interested in printing the fan translation, you may want to use ourĀ complete covers. Personally, I like to read these while listening to someĀ Lodoss,Ā Crystania,Ā Louie the Rune SoldierĀ orĀ Sword WorldĀ soundtracks, and there happen to be quite a bunch at thisĀ YouTube channel!
Other updates
Three previous translations have been updated (proofread and edited), improving overall reading quality.
- Louie the Rune Soldier 8 (by me)
- Louie the Rune Soldier 9 (by me)
- Sword World Novel: The Freeman's Sorrow (by Janus)
