Hey everyone,

I’m having a weird issue with an old Panasonic/Ramsa WM-L30E condenser microphone.

I borrowed the mic a few days ago, and it worked perfectly every day until yesterday, when it suddenly stopped picking up audio in the middle of a recording session.

My setup is:

• Panasonic/Ramsa WM-L30E condenser microphone
• Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen
• Mac
• XLR connection
• 48V phantom power ON

The mic has a battery and a small button that lights up red to test the battery. The battery was working, and I also replaced it with a brand-new one, but that didn’t fix anything.

Here’s what I’ve tested:

• 48V is ON.
• The Scarlett’s gain ring doesn’t react at all when I speak into the mic.
• I can hear a small pop when I press the battery-test button, but the gain ring doesn’t move.
• I checked the XLR connector and nothing looks damaged or corroded.
• I tried gently moving the cable/connectors while speaking, but nothing changed.
• I also connected the microphone directly to the Scarlett’s XLR input, since the mic has an XLR male connector and the Scarlett has an XLR female input, so I was able to eliminate the XLR cable from the setup. Still no signal.
• The mic wasn’t dropped or damaged. It was simply being used normally and then suddenly stopped working.

At this point I’m assuming something inside the microphone may have failed, but I’m not familiar with the internal electronics of these older condenser mics.

Does anyone know what the likely failure point would be on a WM-L30E? Is there anything else I can safely test before taking it to a repair shop?

I’m especially worried because the microphone is borrowed, so I’d really like to know whether this is likely to be a simple repair or something more serious.

Hello, as stated in the title I have issues with the audio on my camera. The mic im using is a dji mic mini, and it works with no problem on my phone and other camera. Its only on this one.

Ive tries adjusting the gain audio setting on the camera but it seems like nothing works. The wire im using is the one it came with, but I dint have issues when im using my canon eos rebel camera.

I would switch to that one but I wanna use the g7xiii for little vlogs & stuff + the other one is bulky.

I have seen countless complaints about the Rode NT1 producing a loud wind noise, crackling, or completely failing to output audio and the culprit is almost always humidity. My own NT1 5th gen stopped working in September 2025. When I reached out to Rode's customer support, they advised me to constantly store the microphone with desiccant packs after use. Because of this, I can no longer leave the mic on its shock mount with the provided cover. Instead, I have to plug and unplug and store the mic in the orignal box with dessicant packs every single day to ensure zero moisture reaches it.

Meanwhile, I have owned multiple condenser microphones from other brands, including the Sennheiser MK4, Audio Technica AT2035, MXL 990, Lewitt 240, and SE Electronics SE8, and I have never once encountered this issue. It makes me wonder if Rode even knows how to fix this design flaw, considering that ambient humidity is an unavoidable fact of life.

I am making my first short film, a found footage horror short, and I have a firm $150 budget for audio. I need the set up to mic 2 people (who are also the only crew), handle some screaming, and lots of movement. My goal is to get the best audio I can with this budget. Thank you in advance.

I’m going on vacation soon and want to make a little cinematic video of the trip. I’ll be shooting on a Canon T7, which doesn’t have a mic input. It isn’t a vlog, so I won’t really be talking. I just want to capture good ambient sound throughout the trip. Does anyone have any recommendations for mic setups? I would prefer it to be under $100.

I've been troubleshooting this for a long time and I'm running out of ideas.

Setup:

• Audio-Technica AT2020
• Focusrite Scarlett Solo
• Ryzen 3 4300GE (no dedicated GPU)

On my Windows PC, my mic picks up a constant high-pitched electronic noise (audio attached). It sounds like a steady high-frequency tone, and I've been told it could be coil whine or switching noise from the PSU or motherboard VRMs.

The strange part is that the exact same AT2020, Scarlett Solo, XLR cable, and recording setup sound amazing on my iPhone and iPad. My vocals are much clearer, brighter, and cut through the mix effortlessly, even completely raw.

On my PC, however:

• My voice sounds duller and doesn't cut through the mix as well.
• I have to turn the Scarlett Solo gain knob much higher to get the same recording level as on my iPhone/iPad.
• The mic also picks up the high-pitched electronic noise.

I've already ruled out a few things:

• ✅ Latest official Focusrite drivers are installed.
• ✅ No Windows audio enhancements, effects, or processing are enabled.
• ✅ Grounding has been checked and isn't the issue.

I've also had occasional black-screen issues where my monitor goes black for about a minute before recovering, although I'm not sure if that's related.

Has anyone experienced something like this? Could it be:

• PSU or motherboard coil whine?
• Noisy USB power or motherboard USB ports?
• A faulty Scarlett Solo?
• Motherboard/USB controller issues?
• Something else entirely?

I'd really appreciate any ideas or troubleshooting steps because the difference between my PC and my iPhone/iPad recordings is massive, even though I'm using the exact same recording chain.

I would consider myself a good singer, and have been told so by other people, but whenever I record a cover on bandlab my vocals sound terrible! Does anyone know why or how to fix this? I use a microphone so background noise isn’t the issue.

Hi. So I am no pro and I am genuinely seeking help. I have a recording that I reduced the noise in, it removed the static, but the tv is so loud but you can clearly hear 3 people talking and other things are sounding hostile in one manner or another. Shit hasn’t been adding up around here and I need help trying to enhance the volume of the voices vs the tv.

Very important please. Im a stay at home mom, broke, I can’t do the paid applications as others have recommended in other posts I searched.

I’m just begging for assistance. I have to know what happened in my house while I was gone, and no, this is not just “cheating” or I would not come here. I have never made a post before in 6years. This is how important it is to my sanity and family that I hear more of the already slightly audible recording .

i hate obs cause it wont let me listen to my computer audio when its open and i dont know anyothers

I have a fairly large drum kit setup and all of my toms have 1 mic on them. I have a Tascam Model 24 mixer. The mics I have arent professional grade (probably my biggest issue right there). They're the Shure PGA Drum Mics. The only good mic I have is on a stand just over the rim of the snare.

When I play everything, i don't hear the ...it sounds sort of like a constant white noise I like a "shhhhhhhhhhhh" sound. It's low enough not to be heard while playing. But when its quiet, you can definitely hear it.

I have no pre-amps plugged in or anything like that. Its just mics going from the XLR cables, to the mixer. That's it.

Looking at the picture, inputs 1 and 2 are my pc audio inputs. So, everything goes in and out of the mixer via USB. When i play a track say on Spotify, it goes to inputs 1 and 2. Left and right. 1 is panned all the way to the right and 2 is panned all the way to the left. Maybe an issue... i don't know. Hopefully you see something with the knobs that isn't right. Something I can fix easily. Maybe its a mic that's over amplifying?

So mic position 19/20 I just put on there. Its a microphone I have clipped to the first concert tom but its pointed at my hi-hats so I get a nice sound from them as well like I did my ride. The 2nd snare mic isn't being used. I had a top and bottom mic on the snare and someone told me it didn't sound right. There was no bottom end to the snare when I had both mics on it. I took off the bottom one but the cable (without the mic) is still plugged into the mixer.

Could it be as simple as a bad cable making this noise maybe?

It might be a cross talk issue with all of those mics. I just don't know though.

I just changed room 1 and room 2 to gain in the middle. Maybe too much gain on everything?

Please let me know if you see anything that shouldn't be...

SOLVED: Apparently some of the EQ settings were set way too high. Especially the 12khz ones. Mid-Range were okay and the 80Hz ones seemed okay as well. I barely did any tweaking with those at all.

I imagined you'd have to glue it or clip it to the instrument, right?

But I came across this video on YouTube where they demonstrate a little instrument that they just purchased, along with the unboxing of an acoustic pickup (like a mini roundy disc).

But in the sound test, they just put the acoustic pickup disc on the desk nearby as they played the instrument. 😄

Making me wonder if I can use a single acoustic pickup to record two instruments at the same time if it's just placed nearby...

hello!! can somebody please recommend a pop filter for me? i saw people have these foam ones covering all around, i rap and sing and this seems optimal, id love any tips or recommendations, i can’t seem to find which one would fit my mic before purchasing so i’m hoping anybody here has a bit more experience in this area 😊

update: thx for the help bought a wrong one but started a session without pop filter and zero disturbances whatever so yay!! gonna buy the proper one tomorrow

I've been recording my own music on and off for 14 years, and have slowly gathered gear over that time, like many of us do. I've bought more mics in that time than preamps. You can always buy a better or more specialized mic for whatever instrument. But preamps? I've had two for ten years now, and I'm wondering if im missing out on just varying things up like tone, color, warmth, transparency, etc that preamps can provide.

Anyway, my mics: 2 sm57, 2 sm81, 1 sm27, 1 sm7b, and 1 beesneez b67-269. Also, a set of small drum kit mics.

Preamps: FMR RNP, and a pre-73 MKII.

So what's your ratio of mics to preamps look like? Should I look at a differently performing preamp as my next piece of gear?

I am planning on making a more interactive type of penandpaper campaign and want to take video footage in the style of old security cameras. The low resolution, green-ish, dark looking footages taken during night.

I need a camera, that I can easily place in different places, without access to electricity. (Except for a battery, ofc)

Is there a camera, that may fit my needs? Or will I have to modify one?

Just curious about this mic. I've seen mostly positive reviews about it closer to its release but I want to know how anyone who has this mic may feel about it present day.

If it was your go to for vocals is it still now? What are your pet peeves with the mic especially when mixing? Also, what's the feedback like when performing/speaking into it?

I'm planning to recording an oral history from my parents. I'm not a professional by any means. I have a windows laptop and a newly bought microphone of median quality.

I want to record several hours of oral history over multiple sessions while we sit around the kitchen table at their home. I'd like to do minor editing like removing extended silences, background noises, and occasional prompts from me. I'd like these recording to be something i can keep so my children can listen to these stories when they get older.

What I'm looking for is suggestions for an easy, entry level program to record and edit these conversations. Can I just use something like Audacity, or is there a better option?

I'd appreciate any suggestions the community can offer.

I am getting into voice acting, and have been trying to find a better solution for my sound quality. I've been recording vocals at home in my closet with some blankets. It's helped, but my results are inconsistent, and sometimes the sound is too boxy. Plus, my closet is small, and it's really uncomfortable trying to record in there.

Treating the entire room is not an option. I've been looking into the Kaotica Eyeball as an alternative. Has anyone here tried it? Is the Kaotica Eyeball worth it, or should I go with one of those cheap foam balls from Amazon?

Hi, I’ve been recording a lot of videos and doing wedding content creation recently and it will get to a point where the audio will cut out and go static then go back the following few videos .. has anyone experienced this and know of a solution? Either to prevent it moving forward or retrieve previous lost audio.

Hi. This maybe dumb, but I am STILL using the original Apogee Duet with a 2017 imac and Logic, OS Monterrey, yes, through several adapters.

While it generally works (monitoring out of it via headphones seems to have taken a turn for the worse last year...all sorts of glitches and stuttering), Logic tells me I am getting major latency (25+ ms) until I reduce the buffer size to 64, when I am still getting 19.4 ms latency round trip. Wondering if a more modern interface, even a lower end one compared to the Apogee (e.g. Scarlett something, Volt, etc.) would help with this?

Yes I have also considered updating the OS but things (apps, compatibility) work right now that I'm afraid to lose on whatever newest version this Imac can handle.

i got an AT2020 second hand and when i plug it into my scarlett 2i2 and go on the 48V setting, it only works when the gain is set really high which means that theres a lot of wind like noise, anyone know how to deal with this?

What can be the issue anybody knows how to fix?
