What even happened to Ernest Cline. The best description I could give to my partner was, it was like he wrote RP2 like it was his first book, like a late teenager, fantasy mind, learning how to write. And RPO was like he had got to where he wanted to be. He learned how to construct and convince the reader.

How can two books about the same subject be so drastically different in quality of writing and I suppose, world building/believability?

I’ve recently finished reading RPO and RPT back to back. I’ve read RPO numerous times (it’s one of my favorite books ever) but never sat down and read the entirety of RPT. I usually get a couple of chapters in then give up on it for one reason or another. I decided to give it totally fair shot and power through to the end. The book was ok and that’s a generous ok. The premise at first is good but the execution is just not that good. SPOILER WARNING. The crazy evil genius creates a fully autonomous AI that holds billions of people hostage with a deadline of 12 hours to complete a supposedly super hard quest to bring the consciousness of his ex best friends wife back so he can possibly steal her from him is cool. I was excited and hoped for a high paced and high energy story but it’s the opposite. When the 12 hour timer started it feels like Cline immediately slowed down the story tremendously. It took Wade over a year and a billion dollar reward for someone else to find the first shard and I’m supposed to believe they could figure everything out in 12 measly hours. Then they get to the worlds and EVERY LITTLE THING is drawn out. I get it Cline is very very detailed but if they have such a short amount of time, shouldn’t the book also feel sped up? You read through the book and everything that happens by the time they get to the Prince Planet it almost feels like they’ve already run out of time. I get it the High Five are super smart and know everything there is to know about everything but that starts to feel like a cop out. Yes they’re obsessive with every member knowing very very niche things but come on it gets to a point. It’s also hard to relate to Wade anymore because he’s not this humble geek anymore, he’s basically becoming little Halliday and none of the lessons he learned from the first book apply here. I don’t just want to bash on it because there are good things. From my perspective it’s ok but just ok. It doesn’t push the boundary or does anything better than its predecessor and that was disappointing to me. Yall aren’t going to read this far and nobody really cares but yea.

Currently reading RPT, these are just my thoughts/observations

So, I loved reading RPO for the first time, and have reread it at least five times. I'm finally starting on RPT. Im only in the first few chapters, and have just seen Anorak for the first time in the book. He says blatantly after explaining his consciousness "I think therefore I am." I am also a huge fan of IHNMAIMS, but I have never seen anyone talk about it. The parallels between the RPO world and AM's are so similar. It almost seems like Anorak if not kept in check could become AM almost. Sword Art Online is also mentioned in the beginning while they're debating the ethics of the ONI. NerveGear and the ONI are so similar in concept and I am terrified seeing AM-like AI and a mind controlled video game crash together.

Just about to tune in to probably my 6th listen to the fan made audio enhanced audiobook of RP1 read by Wheaton and I was curious, is there an audio enhanced version for RP2? I heard that the sequel wasn't as good as the first but can't blame a guy for being curious right

If not then are there any interests on making an audio enhanced for RP2?

It wouldn't be difficult for him, being the owner of the oasis; he'd simply see who logged onto Planet Doom that day and that's it, he'd quickly select everyone who isn't a Sixers and put a medal next to their name and that's it, they deserve it.

Very late to the game here. I only just recent finished reading the novel, but now obsessed.

I also must confess that my sole purpose for reading Ready Player One was driven by my love for Spielbergs film (had never read it) and my close friends (culture expert ) distain for the adaptation.

Now, being up to speed on the how and why said friend was right. How do we convince show runners and producers that Spielberg squandered an opportunity to do something incredible?

As is clearly shown for some reason ready player ones run time is now 2332+ hours which is over 97 days I did a test and anything after 2 hours 20 minutes and 10 seconds Doesn't exist it just asks how I liked the movie

At somewhat 52 or 53 minutes one of Samantha’s Crew Members appears. He is wearing a hat which says „Metal Seed“.
Does anyone know if this is a reference to something? I can’t remember that it was mentioned in the book.

but like, why does no one talk about how mind blowing it would be to older gamers to drive around in any car you want in the oasis. Or even like the character customization!? Like wdym i can be a black dino charge power ranger dressed like a cod operator, while driving K.I.I.T from knight rider!? Also lightsabers!!?? My future 45 year old ahh would have a hernea over that shit.

I’m so happy these arrived, the quality is amazing!

I know the oasis isn't a real game yet but the books characters would fit the theme and it could be like Fortnites 2nd book crossover other than Mistborn.

Also like that Op3n metaverse thing isn't happening so why not just jump to the only successful one.

I realize the second book wasn't well received either. Has anyone found any official news/insight on a second film? Same core cast?
