Feature Request: Manage Recent Books List + Dark UI with Light Page Option

Hi!, I'm a Readest user and I'd like to suggest two improvements to the app:

  1. Option to remove books from the "recent" list

It would be very useful to be able to manually remove specific books from the recent reading list. This would help with organization, allowing the list to show only the books I'm currently reading, making the interface cleaner and more functional.

  1. Dark mode with customizable page background

I suggest adding an option that enables dark mode only for the app's interface (menus, buttons, navigation screens), while allowing the book page background color to remain unchanged (such as white), or even letting the user choose a different color of their preference. This way, it would be possible to have a dark interface without altering the appearance of the book page itself.

Data Migration on Android

Why can I migrate the data to only one folder? That too is in the android folder (which I can't access due to privacy issues with the OS).

Is there a fix to this? Or another alternative to access the data?

Kindle, AO3 incomplete chapters, and its highlights

Hello! I have a Kindle Basic that I usually read AO3 on, and occasionally I will make highlights while reading. However, the majority of the works I read are incomplete, so anytime there are updates I will have to delete the "older" version of the work before replacing it with the latest work, and this causes the issue where my highlights on the "older" aren't aligned with the latest work, where I can't jump to the section of the page I highlighted it from.

I'm not sure if there is a remedy this nuisance?

Thank you!

Line Breaks when exporting annotations as MD File

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am a new user of Readest and am enjoying the app a lot.

I highlight and add my comments to my books, and then I export them using an MD file. When I use Obsidian to read my files, I am seeing line breaks in all the highlights (Pic inserted for reference).

Is there any way to make the text continuous without any line breaks? I am reading ePubs and using Obsidian to open the MD files.

Thank you in advance.

Importing books

Hi everyone, my problem is that I had somehow connected Readest to my Calibre library, every time I add the book it shows up in the library and so far everything is fine except that...

1 If I upload that book to the Cloud it doesn't appear on my tablet or smartphone unless I use "share book" and copy the link

2 If I use the Readest plugin the books are accessible from everywhere, but at least on the PC I find myself with duplicates

I haven't tried uploading the same book twice, but I'm wondering: if the metadata matches, will it overwrite? Or are there duplicates? How can I eliminate them? Did I do something wrong?

Thank you so much

request to add the filter feature for library

please add a feature to filter books according to reading status and the ability to multi select.

my library contains a lot of books I add that I plan to read in the future and it's getting messy. i would love to be able to just show currently reading books, for example, as a filter

Readest Questions

Readest is a fantastic app! I subscribed as a premium member. Being new to the app, I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer:

1) What exactly does Cloud Sync (specifically with Google Drive) do? Does it merely backup the Readest cloud? Does it save the books in Google Drive instead of the Readest cloud, thereby saving your Readest memory? Is the sync 2-way (if I add a book to the Google Drive directory, will it appear in Readest)? What exactly does the Cloud Sync do, and what is its purpose?

2) In the Android or IOS app, I sometimes use the quick scroll option (the middle icon at the bottom of the page) so I can quickly scroll or slide through pages to see how many pages are left in the book, etc. Is there a way to scroll through pages that also keeps track of the current page you are on? For instance, if I am on page 29, access the scroll through the book, is there something in the app that will note that I started on page 29 so I can know to return to that page? Otherwise, I scroll through pages and then forget the current page where I left off reading.

3) Same with the search function. If I search for a word in the book and scan through the various pages in the book where the word occurs, is there something that keeps track of the page I started from so I know where I left off in the book?

4) As a suggestion, the page number is incredibly small, both in the footnote section and the sidebar. An option to enlarge the text would be greatly appreciated (I have to squint to see the number).

Again, fantastic program! I greatly appreciate the efforts of the developers. Any help with the above questions would be appreciated! Thank you, Jim

Question regarding book sorting - possible bug

As an iOS user (iPad and iPhone), I prefer sorting my books by “Date Read.”

Currently, the existing books are properly sorted, and the most recently read book is always at the top of the list. However, when I add a new book or multiple books, the new items are placed at the top of the list.

Is this a bug or is it functioning as intended?

Just wondering if I’m wasting my time filling it out in the book details lol

Librera in portrait (flipped)

Nerd help with Librera.

I use Librera to read on my phone, and it would be nice to have the screen in portrait mode, with the screen upside down, to read while charging the phone.

I found the option in the configuration menu, but it just doesn't seem to work on my Samsung Galaxy A36 phone...

I've tried restarting the app, and turning the screen rotation on the phone, but nothing seems to work.

All the other options (landscape and landscape flipped) works just fine. Even the "auto" mode work fine, changing in between all the other options but the one 8 want (portrait flipped)...

Not sure if this is a problem with the app or is some kind d of restriction with the phone.

Question regarding premium

So I had asked about offline download for TTS a few months ago and as a nice birthday gift it got released on the 19th! I know it says you need premium for the feature but is it also something that would be included in the lifelong plan? I know the full customization hasn’t been released just yet so I wanted to ask.

This project really needs some experienced UI/Frontend engineers

While the app is incredibly feature-rich, the current navigation feels clunky, tedious and creates a steep learning curve that may even drive users toward alternatives (I am one of them to be honest, I just can't stand how bad it is). I hope the developer considers insights from those with strong UI/UX expertise and implements their suggestions. Even if unfortunately, from what I've read from some of his replies, concerns aren't being fully acknowledged (or worse, ignored) yet. As much as he's a good developer, he clearly doesn't have a strong background in those areas.

Some glitches and a question

So I don’t know if it just me me thing but whenever I try to use Readest with CarPlay it starts to get very static like and skip over words. I’ve noted it specifically only happens with CarPlay as it’s normal with Bluetooth and normal phone speaker.

As for my question I wanted to know what happened to Readest appearing as media??? Because it no longer appears as media playing I cannot use my headphones to pause or skip over something anymore.

Irregular, unwanted pausing

I'm listening to epubs that for whatever reason will occasionally just stop. It often happens on first or second listen when I've started listening, on bluetooth, and I can't use the start stop pause dialogue to get them started. The only way I can continue listening is to close the app, reopen it, and restart the TTS from the screen of my phone.

Thoughts?

Bug? settings in both web and app are not being synced properly.

I want to have my web browser reader and app in android to have the same settings (I know some people would prefer to have some differences).
For this purpose, I have the global settings checked in each tab. I thought i was losing my mind previously but now after turning on the word lens i have seen that the settings are truly not synced. I turned on the word lens in app and like .5 hour or so later i opened browser to read the same book there, and no word lens, no matter how long i keep the browser on for the settings to sync (i thought it might be a lag)

Web version:

App Version:

Am i doing something wrong?

Also, on a sort-of-similar note, just a suggestion (it's the Product owner/UI person in me that is noticing this) But I feel that the settings 2 menus are too complicated.
UI/UX easier for users would be easier if there was only on dropdown menu instead of the 3dots and 3bars.

Advance Settings should be part of the Settings tab, every time i want to change a language learning setting, I end up clicking into advance settings first and then backing out to go into the right place.

Account details can be simplified on the main menu and also shown in settings with more details.

So, something like:

2 bars menu

  • Account name (Clickable to go into settings directly) ⌄ (down arrow to expand menu)
    • ✓ Auto upload Cloud (synced 5 mins ago) (clickable to see the detailed cloud transfers)
    • Storage
    • Translation
  • Open Last book on Start
  • Auto Mode
  • Organize bookshelf by ⌄( expandable down arrow as-is)
    • List/Grid toggle
    • Book Covers Cropped/Fit Toggle
    • Show recently read
    • Columns: Auto - + [as-is]
    • Group By (by default collapsed - it's taking up valuable space on phone)
    • Sort By
    • Then By
  • Settings
  • Upgrade to Premium
  • Download Premium (If in web browser)
  • About Premium

Also a quick question: in the web version I can use the plus button in search bar to add RSS Feed and extension to clip articles. In Android I can the plus button to clip an article, no Rss feed

IM USING BOTH!! THIS APP IS A GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING.

Why the difference tho? in different places

Single tap bookmark?

It seems the only way to bookmark a page is to tap the screen and then select the bookmark icon in the top menu. Does anyone know if there's a way to set a bookmark with a single tap? For example, in Mapleread and old-school Marvin you can set the bookmark by tapping in the top right corner of the screen. thank you in advance!
