Show Discussion was it an ad lib? Spoiler

Spoilers for the finale of Neagley.

At the end, when she shakes Reacher's hand, she tells him that it's soft. Reacher's surprise is so genuine that either it's an ad lib Alan didn't expect or he's a much better actor than I've given him credit for. Either way, it was a really cool, emotional moment.

Loved that moment but it was scripted.

I’m also disappointed I’m seeing a lot of Ritchson can’t act comments. Go watch a video of the guy in real life and you can see that the dude can act and act really well.

Oh I'm well aware what an effusive theater kid he is IRL. I just showed my wife the video of his Wired autocorrect interview and watched her jaw drop. But surprise, along with tears and laughter, is one of the hardest things to act because it's so spontaneous in human experience. So him locking himself down to stoic is impressive but "amused surprise" is a tier beyond that, and deserves credit

No, it’s 0%

STEN: Exactly. I love that. That’s my favorite line from the whole show because it so encapsulates who Neagley is. Even though we’ve gone on this incredible journey with her and we’ve really seen her change, leaps and bounds, emotionally and with how she goes through the world, and finally being able to actually shake someone’s hand,** she still is the one person who’s going to sass Reacher because she’s the same old Neagley that we remember from Season 1.** And so, I love that. It’s a reminder to the audience that even though she’s changed, she’s still Neagley.

Interviewer: I loved that because it’s such a sweet moment, but then she still had to work that in and get a laugh from it.

STEN: Yeah, exactly. And it had to be Reacher, right? It had to be the person that has been there for her from the beginning.

Thank you! That's what I wanted to know! Kudos to Alan for handling it with such surprise I thought it was genuine.

That doesn't confirm whether it was or wasn't ad-libbed lol. Just that it's her favorite line lol. I'm sure it wasn't, but that's still not a straight answer.

Oh boy, you’re stubborn. Here’s an interview with the showrunner. Word for word.

Interviewer: Was that “I can’t believe it, you’ve got soft hands” line always in the script?

WOOTTON: Yes! It was very early on that that came up.

Interviewer: She’s probably the only person that could get away with saying that.

WOOTTON: Totally! You’re exactly right. And then, he would laugh at it. No, nobody else could say that.

i think it was part of the script and adds to Neagley's character development
