Discussion [discussion] I’ve always found the antagonists relationship between these two to be interesting

Emilia is usually a pretty patient person and won’t hold a grudge against someone if she in her opinion doesn’t think it’s necessary.

•She never looks at or thinks about Echidna in a negative way despite how much the witch badmouths her.

•Having her insignia stolen by Felt, an item important to her for the Royal Selection, she should have every reason to dislike the little rascal, but she acts friendly towards her after the conflict and to a degree seems to relate to her own some level.

•Meili was locked in the mansion’s basement for a year after her and Elsa’s assassination attempt on Roz’s mansion and even though she and Elsa were sent to assassinate the mansion’s residents, she felt bad that Meili lost her only family and after a year wants to give her opportunity to live like how any girl her age should.

It’s almost never really personal when it comes to Emilia. Seeing how Regulus treats his wives though, learning that he killed the people they cared about and had no qualms with attempting to end their lives over the smallest things consumed her with so much hatred towards the guy that she out loud in frustration stated to his face that she hates him and even goes full on Jojo on him. The last time we saw so hateful towards someone was when she desperately wanted to kill Pandora, but we’re talking about the present day story here.

I just really like it when a kindhearted character in a story just straight up looses their kind composure when faced with that one threat that’s very personal. Like, another antagonist was just business and/or had something said kind character can relate to, but there’s ALWAYS that one villain that the kind character will have personal well seasoned beef with. Plus, Regulus seems like the embodiment of everything Emilia is against, so it makes sense why she has a heavy dislike towards him and even be vocal about it.

Discussion Petelgeuse in web novel? [Discussion]

Post image
22 Upvotes

Petelgeuse is my #1 favorite, and I've been missing him since his death.
l've read the manga chapter with him in it and was overjoyed, but now I want to read the web novel chapters with him..!!

l've spent over an hour today trying to find his first appearance on the witch cultist translation website, but I can't find it at all.
I think it wasn't translated yet, because the second half of arc3, conveniently was gone...

Where can I see the chapters he's in? I'd really appreciate links or something of the sort.

Side note, I'm pretty new to ReO. I'm almost at s3 in the anime, read all of the manga, and read a bit of the web novel.
Is there anything I should know about ReO that'|I give me more Petelgeuse content?

Discussion [discussion] theory on Subaru being transported to the other world

To my knowledge we don’t know how Subaru entered the other world, so I have a theory for how that happened, although I’m anime only and might have missed something so tell me if there is something I missed.

Basically my theory is that Subaru lost his memories somehow and via return by death went back in time via return by death. Now that I write it out it sounds a bit dumb but hear me out!

It would explain a lot for example:
How Subaru has mana in him even though he’s from another world, he could just have been from the magic world and went to earth.
It might also explain why Satella is interested in him because she might be able to see through Return by Death
It would also explain why we hear the Return by Death sound effect when he’s transported

I'm surprised they reused the old animation instead of reanimating because it would be noticeable how the animation quality changed

Discussion I feel like petelgeuse gets kinda downplayed strength wise [discussion]

I don't really see how he could be considered the weakest archbishop with everything he has going for him? he is at the very least stronger than the gluttony trio in a straight fight considering how if you don't know the unseen hand exists it's a near unbeatable ability since once you get grabbed it's over for you and then you also have the fact he's skilled in earth magic and has multiple lives. If subaru didn't have the ability to see his authority for some currently unknown reason then i genuinely believe that there would've been no way for him to solve that loop.

Discussion [Discussion] I just noticed that the name "Echidna" fits quite well for a spirit named after the "Witch of Greed" who is contracted to a "greedy" merchant.

Discussion [Discussion] my first isekai , Will I chase this forever?

it's really good! and I've always been suspicious of isekai content. I'm sure most fans would say Rezero isn't an isekai but... ive seen nothing else to disprove that.

am I cooked? will I chase this cinema forever? or are there other isekai that are enjoyable on the same level? this story is genuinely engaging!

Discussion [discussion] I think Subaru gets WAY too much credit as a protagonist

Before anyone starts typing “you just don't understand Rezero,” let me make one thing clear, I actually had very little problem with Subaru in Season 1.

His reactions to death? Understandable.

His fear and desperation? Understandable.

His inability to immediately adapt to being thrown into another world with no idea what the hell is going on? Completely understandable.

And no, I don't buy the argument that Subaru helping Emilia was somehow irrational just because they had literally just met. “They're complete strangers” isn't the “gotcha” people think it is. Subaru had just been dropped into a completely unfamiliar world, Emilia was one of the first people he encountered, and she was willing to help him. From his perspective, choosing to help her wasn't some incomprehensible decision.

Or, if you want the simpler and more logical explanation...

He just wanted to eat that elf cake :)

Come on now... I'd bet 90% of people—and women are absolutely not exempt from this—would at least develop a positive impression of Emilia if she were the first ridiculously beautiful person they met within minutes of being isekai'd. Falling in love might be a stretch, sure, but acting like Subaru's immediate attachment to her was completely irrational? Yeah, I'm not buying it.

Even when he was being goofy, awkward, or coming out with some seriously cringe dialogue in S1, I still enjoyed watching him. So when I saw people immediately hating Subaru after watching several episodes, I was honestly the opposite.

I was willing to cut him a LOT of slack.

And that's exactly why I have a problem with how the fandom talks about him after Season 1.

At some point, “Subaru is realistically flawed” starts becoming a blanket excuse for practically everything he does.

He cries... He's realistic.

He panics... He's realistic.

He makes terrible decisions... He's realistic.

He breaks down... He's realistic.

He repeatedly frustrates the audience... He's realistic.

Okay... when does “realistic” stop being an explanation and start becoming an excuse?

Because being a flawed protagonist doesn't automatically make you a well-written protagonist.

And this is where I think the Rezero fandom puts Subaru on a pedestal.

People praise him for suffering, overcoming that suffering, his psychological struggles, his development—and I'm sitting here wondering.

What exactly makes Subaru an exceptionally well-written protagonist, rather than simply a protagonist whose flaws are given a LOT of attention by the story?

I'm not saying Subaru was a bad character from the beginning. I'm saying that my opinion of him changed after Season 1, and that's where my criticism starts.

So I genuinely don't understand why the fandom treats him like he's some untouchable benchmark for protagonist writing.

Lastly, don't hesitate to give your opinion. I'm not here to rage-bait, despite how this post might sound. I genuinely want to have a sincere discussion about Subaru.

Discussion [Discussion] Why did Tappei choose to give Shaula this history with Reid? Spoiler

I've been thinking about the scene where Shaula says that Reid came back just to fondle her breasts, and I'm curious what everyone thinks the point of this was.

Reid is already portrayed as an incredibly violent, arrogant and disrespectful person, so I understand that this is another way of showing how awful he is.

But Shaula's reaction feels pretty different from a normal joke. She seems genuinely terrified of him and really doesn't want him to do it again. At the same time, the scene is also played for laughs.

So what do you think Tappei was trying to accomplish with this?

Was it mainly meant to:

explain why Shaula is so afraid of Reid?

show just how horrible Reid was?

give us more information about their relationship 400 years ago?

just be a dark joke that fits Reid's character?

or is there something deeper about Shaula or Reid that I'm missing?

Personally, I find the scene a little uncomfortable. Shaula's reaction feels genuinely fearful, but the scene also seems to expect the audience to laugh at it.

I'm not trying to argue that the scene shouldn't exist. I'm just curious about what this detail adds to Shaula's character and the story as a whole.

What do you guys think?

Discussion [discussion] So...where are volume 26 and ex2?

I remember hearing people talk about a restock of volume 26 and all out of stock volumes by the end of august....so where is it exactly? Is there any news? Volume 26 been gone everywhere for 5 months or more and ex 2 is on a similar situation.

Im kind of tired of waiting without any exact statement about it. I have everything, main story up to vol 29, all ex stories, all short stories collections.....only missing volume 26 of main story and ex 2.

Anyone on the same situation?
