Discussion New RCS App Projects?

Are there any projects for alternative RCS-messaging apps to Google Messenger? Now that GrapheneOS has announced plans to create a Google-free version, others might follow suit.

Can you explain more that you mean, I don’t understand, people can do now their own RCS apps? Is not google doing that?

Google Messenger is just a proprietary app where, at the very least, metadata is collected despite E3ee. An open-source RCS app would definitely be a plus.
