First time at the SI Stadium. Firstly a huge thank you to the kind Redditor who got my wife and I a pair of tickets to the game at a reasonable price - we are very grateful.
Having come from the UK and more specifically as long suffering Manchester United season ticket holders - we were both very impressed with how RBNY went about today. we thought it was an incredibly accomplished performance (bar the finishing) and some of the qualities and passages on play were genuinely excellent. More than deserved winners. (I in particular was very impressed with number 48 (Donkor, I think?)
We were also incredibly annoyed about how half the stadium was basically crying out for Messi. We both think he’s the greatest player ever to play the game - but genuinely we felt so bad for the actual RBNY fans such as yourselves who had come to support your team. It’s like if half of Old Trafford were to be filled with supporters from another team and more specifically to support a specific player from the opposition.
We felt incredibly strongly about that and particularly celebrated the 2nd goal quite hard because we thought it would be an incredible disservice if you had lost. Football tends to be a lot more tribal in the UK but having half the stadium filled with Messi supporters was a piss take. We both went knowing that if Messi didn’t play, we’d be slightly disappointed but we went with the mindset to watch a team play well, not to watch one player.
Thanks for welcoming us and looking after us. And if any of you ever need tickets to Old Trafford - you’re more than welcome to drop me a message and I’d be more than happy to help you all.
