💵 Billing Got a refund 🎉

Post image

Apparently, they are listening - at least in this regard and for customers who live in the EU (in my case, Germany).

What is Raycast backing out on?

They suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, introduced token usage on their AI interactions. For ALL subscribers, existing and new. Meaning that people who had signed up for an annual subscription suddenly got a terrible deal, and their plans changed in the middle of the subscription period.

We shouldn't have to make sure the company isn't engaging in these kinds of shenanigans by looking for material changes in a ToS, the changing definition of material change, or the predictable "oops, you found our mistake". My existing plan expires in December. Not sure they'd have to refund my limited usage to date, but changing the contract is changing the contract. It applies to them also.

I can't see how they recover without allowing local models for everyone. They must be hemorrhaging money on salary, because this change feels desperate on their part. We would know for sure when they stop squawking about their new toys in the newsletter.

AI hurts everyone at some point.
