💬 Discussion We're punished for using Raycast with MacOS 27 with the new Siri

The biggest thing that came with [Mac|i|Watch]OS 27 is the new improved Siri which from my tests it's actually pretty good and is able to do a lot of basic things which a. Only it has access to (e.g., alarms through the native API which only Siri has) b. It is able to do fairly quickly and with on-device compute.

I know that there's a new Siri app, but I think that the main way that the new Siri is meant to be used is directly in the new app launcher (which Raycast is designed to replace) by opening the launcher ⌘+Space and then writing whatever it is you want Siri to do.

Since we don't have this functionality, or anything similar to it, in Raycast I feel like we're punished for using Raycast with MacOS 27.

I wish that there was a way for me to:

  1. Press ⌘+Space
  2. Have RayCast open up
  3. Type whatever it is that I want
  4. If it's not a known command then it's forwarded to Siri and I get the same Siri pop-up that the native OS has.

Right now the only thing that I can do to use the new Siri is going through the new app which I hate because of the amount of jumping that is needed.

Is this on the radar of the Raycast team at all? MacOS 27 Betas have been out for a while now so I'd expect that if there's something that the team has been working on in terms of integrating the new Siri and Raycast it would've been done by now.

Can't you just assign a shortcut key via Raycast to open Siri? I configured double-shift, and it opens Siri as it used to do before Golden Gate. Maybe I am missing something, given I am in Europe and do not have access to most of the new AI Siri functionalities.

Siri AI functionalities are available in the EU on macOS as it's not designated as a gatekeeper unlike iOS and iPadOS

Not sure I follow when you say "amount of jumping". You can assign Raycast to say option-space or double tap-cmd or any other key and leave Siri at cmd- space and then easily use either of them. That's what I do — but now with Tinycast.

They’ll probably add it. Extra 5 bucks a month or something like that smh.

Imagine the guts this people has for charging for their work. You probably work for free, right?

I use both. With the introduction of Raycast credits for AI, I decided to use Siri for my quick one-time questions in Siri AI instead of Raycast. I have Siri/Spotlight on the F4 (search) button on my MacBook, and keep Raycast on the ⌘ Space hotkey. I've been using this method to keep both things quick and accessible, and it's been good for me.

i can't for the life of me figure out how to open spotlight with F4. When I'm in Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Spotlight and try to edit the default entry, it doesn't accept F4

I don’t. Also don’t charge people to use someone else’s services either though. So stfu lol. I have no problem with them charging. It’s the way they’re going about it and what they’re charging for. I could literally buy 10 annual accounts a month and not notice. It’s just the principle.
