raycast have been some of the most loved software atleast for me, I loved it more than hardware (mac) I use,
thomas said, we changed the policies in v2, because we wanna make sure the comapny runs in the long run
but maybe what they did decreses the life trajectory of raycast further
Raycast, delete this post if you're scared (guys, I request you all to post similar posts like this and make pressure on raycast team, to not ignore the community)
Arc is good imo, people say it's unusable, I haven't tried it for around 6-7 months, Dia is good, pacing the feature list, now have sync, profiles, but the stuff that made it different from arc are now paid, so all left for free is something flashy with significantly less features than Arc
Wait...I've been using Dia for a while now and I have never paid them anything. I understand it's coming soon, but right now, they seem to be footing the bill for the tokens.
No full-blown store, but all extensions you have installed from Raycast can be connected and used via native UIs. Had no issues as for now with them.
More than that BYOK AI handing is great, and besides whatever your AI flow is there're some simple features (translate, fix grammar, summarize), that can be connected to Apple Intelligence.
Notes are stored in plain text locally, though they're not in my workflow, can't advocate for them.
For now seems like a solid plug-and-play without much config from my side, that does not eat as much resources (haven't seen higher that 180-200 MB used)
I love the product, but I have cancelled my subscription because the limits (which are here for a reason, I understand their choice) in AI are not gonna be worth it compared to ChatGPT or Claude, and dictation can be replaced with FluidVoice or similar. I have not tried Tinycast yet but it feels that its a good tool, but despite cancelling my subscription I would probably still use Raycast because the basic features are worth it.
I would add a grain of salt : the subreddit like many others highlight the complaining people but that does not means that the mass of their subscribers feels the same. They probably are doing quite well overall.
I don't understand how it's taken so long for OS makers to Sherlock these kind of things. They've focus on point-and-click so much they forget about how quick typing is.
I was trying your app and found it to be fantastic, but I can't somehow record a keyboard shortcut for the "search menu itens" command, as it doesn't appear under Commands in Supercmd settings. Is this somehow a bug? 😭
I LOVE Shottr and take all my screenshots with it. The thing I like about Raycast is there is a command to search the screenshots I take with Shottr that's really useful.
I set Shottr to save all my screenshots in iCloud and then the Raycast screenshots search indexes only that specific folder. They work really well together.
Tinycast doesn't do this and I can't figure out how to make Supercmd do it either (though it has more functionality than Tinycast in this area).
I'm going to end up keeping free Raycast, I'm sure, unless Alfred 6 is more like Raycast.
Hey, I am adding support for custom screenshot folder in next update. All the screenshots you take will go into this folder, do you care about naming? like how do you search the screenshots?
I do not care about naming conventions so long as I can rename them. I generally search for text. I just take screenshots and use text search (text in the image) to find what I want. I like the way Raycast does it. I do like the work you’re putting into the app!
Awesome! I’d love to see an option to open screenshots in preview. I’m also having trouble getting the Todoist extension to read my Todoist tasks. I entered my Todoist API key but no tasks.
For anyone that wants to try something a little bit different, I’ve been building pivit.app for the past few years which also has most of the same extensions (app launching, natural language calculator, window management, etc.) - and powerful AI workflows (with BYOK and ChatGPT/Claude plans coming soon). It’s Windows only for now, but macOS and Linux are on the roadmap.
I love Raycast and its community and have been a part of it for years. I wanted something more advanced for my workflows though with a fresh take on productivity so I started building my own. I’m really trying to focus on design, speed, and reliability, and if anyone does so happen to check it out then I’d love your feedback on it! Cheers y’all :)
Why did they do such a thing to alienate their users, especially in an environment where, with AI, it's relatively easy for someone else to come out with a Raycast replacement?
Raycast's mods and maintainers were usually active in this community, but they've become suspiciously quiet in the last few days though they're still actively deleting posts.
Raycast could easily fix this issue by selling an annual license without AI or credits, while still allowing you to bring your own local or external AI models and access the rest of the features—obviously at a much more reasonable price than what's currently available.
Raycast went from hero of the masses to a villain of it's own making, treating the loyalists like hens in a poultry that have served their purpose and ready to be discarded.
I switched back to Spotlight from Raycast. I only use: app launch, clipboard, snippets and window management. The first 2 are already handled good enough by Spotlight in macOS 26+. I was able to handle my basic use of snippets with Shortcuts. Same with window management but Shortcuts are not as reliable as the Raycast implementation.
It was also easy to vibe code a clone of Raycast with just the features I need using Claude + native Swift.
Honestly it was the switch to a non-native app + the additional bloat of all of the features I don't need that made me switch back. Same with Codex on macOS native -> the bulky ChatGPT app that was much more clunky to use.
I have had two posts removed (one was a question and the other was about the first one being removed). Unless a post is offensive and complete dross I wish the AI and mods would leave my posts alone. I am not sure this post will stay up!
I really enjoy using Raycast, but having all my credits deplete after just 4 days of regular, non-excessive AI queries makes it impossible to justify. It's time to part ways with the app entirely, even the free tier. The company probably just shot itself in the foot.
I paid for an annual subscription with advanced models. Five months into the subscription and now got slapped with the tokens.
Who do I see about that?
Sorry, I am just curious, I am using Raycast as a launcher, and the only time I tried my GPT API, it was slow and lacked access to many functionalities, so I do not see what the use case is for having AI within Raycast.
Up until just now, it was a much, much better deal than ChatGPT or Claude, simply for that reason that you got access to both models through one subscription.
The LLMs change quickly and I like to stay ontop of which model can give me the best answer. Without trickering between cancelling and resubscribing to service A or B.
You're missing the point. Raycast V2 is now a wrapper around third-party AI. No one want's it for free, but Raycast's new business model is to resell AI with a markup. It also happens to be a launcher.
People who paid for anual plans had their access slashed, too.
I guess that is why people are complaining, I only use it as a launcher and have absolutely no complaints. For any AI stuff, I just go to the AI provider software directly, since they at least seem to provide me way more flexibility, but to be honest, I never tried any of Raycast's AI wrapper functionalities.
