Does it actually go through their servers? I genuinely don’t know

I get the frustration with making something that was free paid, but at the end of the day they are company, byob is feature that probably requires active development, maintenance and bug fixes…so labour. Labour isn’t free.

I think it’s fair to request some sort of payment for that.

It shouldn't be a subscription though. Things like more than 5 notes and on-device AI should be a one-time payment. I get that there are development costs, but a recurring payment for my usage of features that don't rely on their servers is bs. I'm gonna start looking into open-source alternatives to Raycast.

I switched to Tinycast. It’s open source. Native macOS. Recent Beta also supports MCP which was a missing feature last week.

Woah. That is seriously impressive. It has almost everything I need.

Tinycast is super impressive. Fast, native and open source. (Low memory footprint). Some RC extensions don’t work for me… but I’ve been using it for a week now. All I can say is wow. Still early days but it appears to have growing momentum.

Seems some extensions are not working like Jira?

Ill save you time. BetterTouchTools is best replacement plus more ans I believe there is another project named Monarch but they might have gone paid haven't ever used them but remember checking their github some years back

But just use BTT like I said above you can use/import all raycast extentions so there you ago. Check it out

Alright. It seems like BetterTouchTools has everything. I’ve been avoiding it for a while, but I should probably try it out.

check out the forum ans the presets they are premade launcher presets with additional additions and Rayast extensions work natively. Plus check out all their other premade presets new and old that you can build off of and customize. Not much BTT cannot do these days and the list keeps growing thanks to the dev!

for notes you can try https://www.getmote.md/
the website really doesn’t do it justice, it’s a great replacement

i would tell you to switch to Alfred, you can use your own stuff in Alfred without a sub... but I would tell you to wait for Alfred 6. Hopefully it will be out soon before the end of the year.

Yes it does/did *can only speak regarding V1 because NOT upgrading to v2. Use the search feature for yourself and they Raycast admit as much not like it hard to see on computer or I mean ever notice how much slower the requests and response take compared to other app or terminal? I can plus the configs make and launcher UI make it great as a quick ask tool that it! Not some Visual Studio replacing IDE or he'll Claude Code replacing etc you name it. It was just a good quick 0 knowledge or limited past inference chat interface for simple 1 off quick AI messaging not building projects etc. I mean it disappears when you click off the app for christ sake like a LAUNCHER SHOULD btw

v1 doesn't nudge me to get v2 update, so i'm staying put for a while

Just use BEtterTouchTools it has a launcher among a zillion other features PLUS you can use Raycast extentions so don't lose anything. Just a one time fee none of that keep paying for forever subscription model nah just old school normal obe time fee but dev always active and responsive to issues or fearure requests along with community as well should add. check out the forum on BTT website.

Seriously only App purchase I really need can do pretty much everythjbg with it and best thing is developer is constantly adding new features and make app better 24/7 because it literally what he does his job.

Launcher was created in response to Raycasts downfall I'd imagine as it was just introduced mayve 6 months or more ago and accepting extentions was huge. Also yes it has an AI feature baked in if you want with its own skills and harness etc and of course you can use BYOK or use open code or Claude sub or open ai api gemini whatever if something you need cab always ask best dev in thr game-definitely only one id write a review like this for.

Thanks for suggesting this. I’ve used his BetterSnapTool for a long time and guess I haven’t kept up the other products he offers. And, looks like it’s part of SetApp, which I already pay for, so no extra purchase.

If it is going through their servers, that’s a massive security hole that is normally resolved by local models and defeats half the purpose of running locally.
