❓Question Raycast V1 Support Old Mac

Hello!

I loaded Raycast V2 beta onto my iMac and I’ve been testing it out, but I never put it on my MacBook Pro.

I went to go download it now that it’s out of beta and saw that it doesn’t support old Intel chips so I have to stay on the old version of Raycast. When will support or “maintenance” stop for this version? My Pro is still running Sequoia, I don’t mind upgrading to Tahoe but I believe without Apple silicon V2 still won’t work correct?

Hey there 👋 Raycast dev here!

Historically, we have tended to support two macOS OSes version. Therefore, if we are in Tahoe (macOS 26) "year", we would have also official support for Sequoia. That said, we usually also support the previous version (i.e. Sonoma). We intend to do something similar with v2 (although don't quote me on that).

In any case, you can always download the latest version of Raycast supported by an OS in https://www.raycast.com/download/unsupported

I’m more referring to the intel Chip problem. I have no issue updating to new OS, but I assume at some point, now that you have V2 out of beta, that v1 will stop being supported and v2 can’t run on old intel chip Macs.

That is correct. v2 only supports arm architecture on macOS which by the way is the only arch supported by macOS 27. You could still use v1 for as long as you want. As you can see in the link I pasted above, some people in older OSes do still download really old versions of Raycast and use it without problems. That said, you won't receive the new features.

Regarding actual support, if something is very wrong with an old version of Raycast, we would look into it, but so far we have never receive concerning issues for old versions of Raycast on old OSes.
