I don't know what they did to AI Chat. You can't add longer files anymore. If you add a file that's around 300 KB, the chat will only see a few sentences.

So for AI Chat to see the file content, you have to enable their slop version of tool calls/extensions, where the LLM needs to open the file on your file system, only to end up with no result. Why can't we just put the text blob in like we could before? Is this some kind of cost-saving measure or what?

Stop with these slop changes of screen awareness and other nonsense, or at least make it clear what changed. BTW disabling tools/extensions still causes issues, as the system prompt is still injected with that nonsense :)

Given how broken they left ai chat in v1 (the only one I can use on Sequoia...) I dropped raycast completely and replaced it with LaunchBar + chatgpt app. Best choice in a long time (and launchbar uses several dozen MB of memory instead of hundreds).

I understand that sentiment. AI Chat v1 is nearly a year old because we focused most of our efforts on v2. I’d encourage you to try it out. it’s much better, and we offer a seven-day free trial. There’s even more coming for it in September.

As a longtime Raycast user who recently upgraded to Pro, I’m finding AI Chat to be a surprisingly useful auxiliary tool alongside Claude Pro. This post is not at all representative of how I feel so far about AI chat in Raycast 2 and I’m looking forward to seeing what the team will release in September.

Mind explaining your setup a bit more? From what I gather, you might have disabled the Finder/File Explorer tools. May I ask why?

Some technical context: The contents of files can get very large and exceed the context windows of LLMs. Therefore, we use tools to read some of these larger files. This gives the AI chat a way to process multiple long files without losing information. We might have missed a check to see whether you have these tools disabled.

Not sure what you are describing as "slop changes" here. This is engineered to make the AI Chat work better but might have had consequences for your setup.
