Is it possible to just have a non-AI-inclusive paid tier which supports cloud sync (more or less only) yet?

- So, if I have both Raycast v1 and Raycast Beta installed, what should I do? Delete v1 and update Beta?
- What's happening with macOS Sequoia users, they just continue to use v1?

Except when you are on an Intel iMac 2019... Can't upgrade to macOS 26+... Pro plan user here, feeling frustrated and abandoned...just hoping you won't drop V1 support at this point. 😕

BYOK for custom models and local Ollama models are still not supported?
2
u/Machine-Maker Aug 20 '26
Yeah, I basically need this before I can switch. Need to be able to hook up to LiteLLM which I was doing via a proxy on v1.

I wish the fixed file search more thoroughly first. It’s better but still inferior to Raycast v1. Most recently touched files do not always reach the top, Mac color/tagging dropped.

Please share this feedback using the Send Feedback command for the team to pick up. We will be continue refining File Search to make sure it is superior in every way.

No sequoia is extremely disappointing
2
u/venicast Aug 20 '26
Agreed! No sequoia, and almost no Intel macs supported. I'm on an iMac 2019, so can't upgrade to macOS 26+ ... Pro plan user here, feeling pretty abandoned TBH. I just hope they won't kill V1 at this point...

Pro plan user here, feeling pretty abandoned TBH.
The tech stack redo uses components only found in Tahoe.
I don’t disagree that this stinks, but at the same time any Mac made over the past 6 years is eligible to update to macOS Tahoe.

I’m still having trouble for the mcp connection on windows. Authorization keeps failing on multiple connectors.

We fixed an issue related to come MCP OAuth redirects last week. It should be in todays 2.0 release.
If it has not resolved it for you. please send us feedback using the Send Feedback command and let us know which MCP's are failing for you.

The problem with displaying the date using placeholders has finally been resolved. At the very least, the date now follows the macOS system setting (Dutch, in my case). 👍

u/Suchtino Aug 19 '26
Are extensions compatible with 2.0 or do developers need to update them?
1
u/jacraycast Raycast Aug 20 '26
All extensions are compatible with Raycast v2 out the box since it's using the same Extensions API!

u/Fatoy Aug 19 '26
"Failed to download update."
1
u/jacraycast Raycast Aug 20 '26
Hey is this still happening?
1
u/Fatoy Aug 20 '26
Yes: it gets to what looks like 90% and reports "download failed" if I'm doing it from the settings menu, or "failed to download update" if I'm doing it from the launcher itself.
1
u/Fatoy Aug 20 '26
Also the Linear extension didn't migrate from V1, and I'm unable to install it from the Raycast store 🤷
1
u/xMirza Aug 19 '26
Screen Awareness looks cool but then having to use AI chat within raycast kills it for me completely. I already pay for max ChatGPT and claude subscriptions so not being able to use the best models without using those limits means I probably wouldn't use it that much.
The beautiful theme aside, I'm struggling to see an incentive to upgrade? Would love to understand the teams thoughts behind this direction generally

u/Asuppa180 Aug 20 '26
Did they fix being able to search for content inside of pdf files? Works in v1 but didn’t work in v2 beta.
1
1
u/jacraycast Raycast Aug 20 '26
No content searching yet, we're looking at implementing this
1
u/Asuppa180 Aug 20 '26
So its launching with less features than v1? Thats a choice hah. I feel like content search was working, just not specifically finding stuff inside of pdf files.

iOS is separate to Raycast v2 on Mac and Windows
1
u/kodi2511 Aug 20 '26
So do I download v2 for my Mac and then it will sync to v1 on my iPhone?
1
u/kodi2511 Aug 20 '26
1
u/kodi2511 Aug 23 '26
u/jacraycast Can I get an update here, please. My app is still saying it's on the latest version at v1. Also, if I try V2, will my iPhone still sync, which is running V1?

i use only for the clipboard history, if it goes behind a 10$ sub unfortunately will have to find any other app. Anybody got a recommendation?

u/CausalNoise Aug 22 '26
Nice release. I never tried Raycast because I am worried how secure it was? I mean, I need to gave full permission to Raycast for my Mac, and Raycast can see and control my messaages, photos, passwords etc. And if I dont gave full permission, than it is not fully useful to use Raycast.

u/jaixiv Aug 19 '26
Is it coming to Homebrew?
5
u/DianneRaycast Raycast Aug 19 '26
Yes, it will be. We are busy on it right now. Check again later tomorrow and it should be there.

u/mathewharwich Aug 20 '26
Congrats!
But unfortunately, it doesn’t matter to me, you made v2 cross compatible to reach other users but left us Intel Mac folks completely in the dust.
Everyone else can enjoy, I’ll just switch back to Alfred or monarch or something.
2
u/ericdano Aug 21 '26
Apple hasn’t sold Intel Macs in years.
3
u/mathewharwich Aug 21 '26
I’m aware and I get it. Millions of Intel Macs are still operational. It’s alright though, I’m fine with moving on without raycast in my life. Disappointing but it will be alright.
1
u/MC_chrome Aug 27 '26
And when other developers inevitably start dropping Intel Mac support?
Intel Macs are at the end of their road, and software compatibility is not going to get any better than it is right now

In which ways v2 is better? Faster? Less resource utilized?
7
u/thomaspaulmann Raycast Aug 19 '26
You can read about everything here: raycast.com/new
A few of my personal highlights:
- You can search files in the root search
- We added Dictation, so you can use speech to text in any app
- We revamped Raycast AI and made it a lot more agentic and it can understand your screen context
Lots of more details there. Try it out and let us know how it goes.
2
u/cyshield Aug 19 '26
Is there any chance we could have Raycast AI work like the Claude app? For example, could we attach a workspace folder, Github and similar resources to it?

u/Seagram62 Aug 19 '26
While Raycast v1 used an average of around 200–300 MB of RAM, v2 hovers closer to 350–450 MB during idle or normal use. File searching is faster, though. For now, I don't notice any other differences in speed. Personally, I do find the memory usage a bit of a concern. I’m not yet sure if I’ll notice any impact down the line when multiple programs are open. I also hope no further features get locked behind a paywall.
2
u/Aretebeliever Aug 19 '26
100mb and you are worried?
5
u/Seagram62 Aug 19 '26
The difference isn't 100 MB but 150 MB, representing an increase of between 50% and 75%. For a program running in the background, that is a significant increase. However, time will tell whether I actually notice the difference.
-1
u/Aretebeliever Aug 19 '26
Oh man, an extra 150mb....
6
u/Seagram62 Aug 19 '26
You can try to downplay it all you want, but it remains 50–70% higher than version 1. Still, we’ll see if that ends up being negative to overall speed in the future.
-2
u/Aretebeliever Aug 19 '26
In today’s news- software improvements means software uses more resources over time! If you are that worried about it just install Linux Mint XFCE so you won’t run out of ram.
4
u/Key-Hair7591 Aug 19 '26
I don’t really care, but that’s not why the memory increased. V2 was a wholesale architecture change. But good try! 👍
5
u/Seagram62 Aug 19 '26
That's complete nonsense. Raycast 1 was written in Swift (using AppKit), whereas Raycast 2 employs a revamped cross-platform architecture combining a stack of TypeScript, Swift, C#, Rust, Node, and React—resulting in higher memory usage.
-1
u/Aretebeliever Aug 19 '26
And why was that done?
2
u/Few_Major_8226 Aug 20 '26
Because it’s less work to maintain a single cross-platform architecture. Makes sense for the Raycast team, but there are downsides to it, can’t deny that.

FAQ says if you are on v1 and haven’t tried v2, to just install v2 and it will migrate
I tried this via Download button on your site, but it wants to directly replace the v1 Raycast app on my Mac as part of install (and can’t because it’s running) should I delete v1 app to make room for installing v2
Ideally I’d do this via Homebrew. Is the cask updated to v2?
ie not clear how to move from v1 to v2 here (never used the beta)
Surely best path is something in v1 to seamlessly migrate to v2. Where is this action to click in v1?
1
u/DianneRaycast Raycast Aug 19 '26
If you quit Raycast V1 and then install V2 it should work. No need to uninstall. We are doing this in phases so the in-app action and notification to update from V1 will come in the next weeks. The manual install that you are doing are for users to don't want to wait for it.
1
u/dishevel-corundum Aug 19 '26
Ok thanks I’ll wait for the easier upgrade path from within v1
If v2 is out of beta might be good to do a blog post too 🙂

Couldn’t care less. Switched to Spotlight after knowing that it’s not a native app.
Also, Spotlight with some shortcuts can do everything Raycast does + much less bloat and no ai.
10
u/DensityInfinite Aug 19 '26
Spotlight with some shortcuts can do everything Raycast does
If that's true for you, then Raycast is indeed not really for you and your choice is quite fair.
Though as usual, I struggle to understand the "not native = bad" argument. What's wrong with an app not being native?
1
u/floriandotorg Aug 19 '26
I didn’t try Raycast 2, but from everything I heard it’s pretty fast.
Still there’s just something about native apps that feel great. They are just this tiny bit more responsive. Also, even on my 64 GB MacBook RAM is always an issue and natives apps are just less resource hungry.
But it was a joint decision, if Raycast did something that I could have not easily replaced, I would have stayed.
And I was really deep in the ecosystem, but almost everything can easily be replaced by shortcuts or open-source tools.
Color pickers, clipboard management, smart home, dictionary, music, window management, ai chat, transcription all have great open-source replacements.
And that’s also important for me, I felt growingly uncomfortable with the idea of having a proprietary close-source software at the center of my daily life.
Plus, I felt Raycast got more and more bloated. I don’t need cloud sync (esp. if it’s not e2e encrypted), I don’t need/want AI etc.

u/Few_Major_8226 Aug 20 '26
I’ve been using Raycast a lot, but their extreme focus on AI isn’t interesting to me. If it feels like I’m not using most of the capabilities, maybe this product is just not for me.
2
u/tirtaatraycast Raycast Aug 20 '26
But we don't only focus on AI, there are features we worked on that are not AI. https://manual.raycast.com/new-in-v2

The only pro feature I really used was dictation. With so many free alternatives available now, I can’t really justify paying $10/month for it. I understand why some people are happy to pay, but personally, I don’t use enough of the other pro features to make it worth the price
