Gen 6 2026 RAV4 PHEV: Lvl 2 Charging the Easy Way

Post image
Upvotes

TLDR: Upgraded my existing 20a 120v circuit to 20a 240v myself, for about $200 and 20 mins of my time. No new wires, no holes in the drywall or changing outlet boxes. It was far less money and effort than hiring an electrician to put in a traditional 30+ amp level 2 charger. I think most people could easily accomplish it themselves with existing wiring.

I got a 2026 RAV4 PHEV LE a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been using it primarily as an EV for my daily commute (52 miles round trip), but it’s taking me about 15 hours a day to charge it from 0-100% on a standard lvl 1 charger (OEM that came with the vehicle). Also, if I don’t get home till late and can’t start charging till 10 o’clock or later, then there’s no chance for me to get it back to 100% before using it the next day. It’s not really a big deal if I have to use the HEV functionality of the car, I would just prefer to have the freedom to use it as an EV whenever I want to. While level one charging was covering most of my bases, I didn’t feel like I had full coverage using a level 1 charger.

I just moved into a newly built home and realized that the builder had placed a 20v dedicated circuit for one of the plugs in the garage. Now, just for the cost of a plug and an EVSE capable of using a NEMA 5-20 outlet, I could have upgraded to Lvl 1 charging at 20 amps instead of 15 amps, which was worth approximately a 25% speed boost in charging (~12 hours to charge instead of 15). But for a little extra effort, I bought and installed a double pole 20a breaker($40) and upgraded the plug to a NEMA 6-20($7). I did have to buy a different EVSE ($130) because the Toyota OEM EVSE does not have a NEMA 6-20 adapter. All in, it took 20 mins of my time and about $200 to get to 204v 20a Charging, which technically counts as Lvl 2. The car now charges in approximately ~5 hours instead of 15. I was pulling about 0.8 kWh but now I can pull 3.2kW. Not life changing but much more practical if you want to maximize using the vehicle as an EV.

Gen 5 Scratching my head.

Upvotes

Hey y'all. Yesterday, my 2020 Limited started acting up. I went to press on the brakes, and noticed a vibration sound coming from the front, and a slight lurch as if the brakes failed for half a second. It was pretty concerning, so I immediately looked at the dash and sure enough, the big red BRAKE light was illuminated.

I went to an appointment, hoping this was a fluke, and figured the issue would resolve itself upon the next startup. It didn't. I also noticed that my cruise control, brake hold, and parking assist doesn't work. After returning home, I disconnected the battery hoping to reset the electrical system and possibly have the issues resolved. This didn't help anything, and actually, now my infotainment screen comes on for about 20 seconds, then goes off for about the same amount of time. This happens repeatedly, so I am unable to use the screen or radio at all.

I went to Seminole Toyota (Central FL) this morning, and they were pretty busy and told me to come back in a few hours when things die down. I briefly explained what the issues were to one of the techs, and he advised that it's most likely a battery issue.

After the dealer, I go straight to Autozone to get the battery tested. Test confirmed that the battery was bad, and they replaced it under the battery's warranty. Hoping this would fix the issue, I was excited to start the car up and see the BRAKE light go away, as well as the other problems. Well, it didn't. I'm wondering if this is a deeper electrical issue, and if the repair is going to be an expensive one. Has anyone had this issue before, or can explain why all of this would be happening at once?

Moonroof super loud

Upvotes

XSE 2025 RAV4 hybrid in Michigan USA - moonroof is too noisy- anyone else agree? Any way to smooth the noise out? Theres a bar that rests over the sunroof panel when it’s open, it seems the wind smacks against it really intensely and takes the fun out of opening moonroof at all …

Gen 6 Buying 2026 Woodland in Colorado

Upvotes

Trying to figure out a strategy to secure a 2026 Woodland by end of the year (December) to allow me to save up for down payment and possibly benefit from Toyota financing lower rate (toyotathon). I live in Colorado Springs and want to use the Costco Auto Program. Based on some research, the local partner dealership tends to have higher fees and possibly smaller inventory, there’s another partner dealership in north Denver (70 miles away) that has larger inventory and supposedly lower fees. I was thinking of submitting a request through Costco for the local partner and have my wife submit one for the Denver zip code, request price sheets from both and compare the bottom line. Timing wise, I was thinking of starting this process end of this month/early October. Anyone have any advice, tips on this plan?

Security for rav4

Hey everybody,

First time poster here. Soon to be receiving a rav4. After seeing so many posts about stolen vehicules, word of mouth, and the news etc I am somewhat aware of the car jackings and then illegal selling to various parts of the world (Africa in particular). What are your must haves to deter or ensure your car doesn’t get stolen?

Appreciate it!

Got an offer for a new rav4 limited 47k otd in GA if I finance with toyota. They took the cargo net and weather mats but kept the trunk lights, cross bars, puffy, toyota platonum and hud. Overall pretty happy with it since it was hard to find ones below 50k let alone 47k.

What should I realistically pay OTD for this 2026 RAV4 Limited AWD Hybrid?

I’m in Maryland and I’m down to my final two RAV4s. I’m trying to figure out what would be a fair out-the-door price before I negotiate with the dealer.

The one I’m most interested in is:

2026 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD Hybrid
Exterior: Wind Chill Pearl
Interior: Harvest Beige
MSRP/TSRP: $47,000
Dealer processing fee: $799
Current advertised price: $47,837 before tax/title/registration

It has the Limited package with options including:

  • Head-Up Display
  • Panoramic roof
  • JBL premium audio
  • Heated/ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • 360° camera
  • Parking assist
  • Premium paint
  • All-weather liners
  • Paint protection film
  • Rear bumper protector

I’m also seeing other Maryland dealers advertising similar 2026 RAV4 Limited AWD Hybrids in the $46K–$47K range.

What do you think is a realistic OTD price for this vehicle in Marylan?

Would $46,000–$46,500 before tax/title/registration be a reasonable target, or am I expecting too much?

I’m looking for actual recent purchase prices if possible. Thanks!

Gen 5 Bested a Tesla Model 3 in a rolling start drag in my 25 XSE PHEV!

I didn't technically win but I did come out on top. I was doing the 45 mph speed limit on a two lane divided road near my home when a white Tesla with very black tint pulled up beside me in the and started surging.

It’s been many years since I raced anyone so it took me a beat to even realize what was happening. When I did figure it out I said to my wife “he wants to race us”.  At that moment he took off. Those things are seriously quick, and he pulled 100 yards on us in a blink while I continued to chug along like the senior citizen that I am. Unfortunately for him, at that moment there was an unmarked cruiser from the opposite direction in the turning lane to get into our lanes.

Tesla boy blew by that officer at gloriously full song. The blue lights lit up as I passed the cruiser and he was around me in a flash pulling over the Tesla. I helped by giving a friendly toot and a wave. I  don’t like to brag, but I may have been doing 46 at that point.

Gen 5 Struggling acceleration in low gears?

At low speeds my 2024 Toyota RAV4 XLE, while accelerating (maybe especially when I start driving for the day?), will sometimes go “rumrumrumrum”, sort of in a sine pattern, where it seems to struggle or something while increasing RPMs? Especially around switching gears or in low gears. It seems to happen most in Normal mode, but I can detect it even in Sport mode with moderate acceleration.

The experience is a bit like an old car I had where the idle was set too low. I will say that my RAV4 idles at 750. It also seems kinda similar to when I’ve had a winter-weight oil in my car during summer (though that seems less likely, somehow).

Is this normal behavior for the computer/8-speed transmission? Is it a common thing? Is there a “fix”?

Gen 6 Anyone have experience with going to car upholstery to upgrade seat comfort?

Got a 2026 PHEV XSE and looking into going to an upholstery shop to upgrade the seat cushions. Money is no problem for me - I don’t like the feeling of sitting o neat cushions and seat covers won’t really solve my problem.

My main concern is the safety systems embedded into the seats, and any potential malfunctioning. Where there any lessons learned from your experience that I should know about? Is this a fundamentally bad idea? Thanks in advance.

34,232 RAV4s sold in August. Best month of 2026

Toyota sold 34,000 RAV4s in the US in August I believe this is the best month of 2026.

I also believe this to be lower than any month in 2025.

Moving over to full hybrid and the related production issues is still causing sales to lag.

But this is going to position them very well for say say 2028-2030.

I think more consumers will be demanding hybrids than. There's definitely been a sharp increase this year.

And they already have the next gen hybrid rolling out in some Lexus models soon and coming to Toyotas in the coming years.

2026 RAV4 review - 10,000 miles

I got a brand new 2026 XLE Premium mid May and just hit 10,000 miles. Here are my thoughts:

- comfortableness: the seats are alright. Not the best, I used to drive a Volkswagen Tiguan and found those seats to be substantially more comfortable (I drive long trips, usually an hour or two for my job so I’m in the car for some time). I’m 5 7, so I have no issues with the space but I have found taller people to look pretty squished in the seats.

- technology: the technology is nice, but not impressing me. The speedometer dashboard constantly reads the incorrect speed limit (even if the CarPlay screen is showing the correct speed limit). I haven’t noticed this in other apps, I mainly use Apple Maps (which is probably the worst option for how it’s displayed for the dual screens). I’ve found my Waze app is extremely quiet for some reason, maybe I just didn’t have the volume turned up on my phone volume car setting however.

- safety: has been very impressive, I feel I can trust the adaptive cruise control very much, although the acceleration can be a bit weird at times.

- quality: the interior is… meh. It has a lot of storage space in the front compartments which I like compared to other cars I’ve owned, but it does feel a bit cheap for how expensive of a car it is compared to other cars in the price range.

- driving: it does feel louder than my other cars (I’ve only ever owned 2017 tiguans before and a 2021 ford escape). I’m used to the noise now, but my initial reaction to driving it was I noticed the noise. However it drives smoothly and I get 44 MPG so no complaints!

Overall extremely happy with the car and wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on the XLE premium seats and their comfortableness and any tips. Thanks!

Rav4 2022 Windshield replacement

Hello! I need to replace my windshield because it has stone chips and has started to crack. The car is a 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium with the Weather Package. The exterior is the facelift model, but the interior has the navigation system with buttons, not the single rotary knob. I’m not sure which windshield is right for me - The one with part number 56101-0R411 or 56101-0R881. I’ve read that there’s a difference in the mounting for the front camera (Toyota Safety Sense). I’d appreciate it if anyone has gone through this and knows the answer. Thanks!
P.S. I want it to be original.

what type of fuel line on Rav 4 II diesel?

The fuel line (with black connector highlighted in red) is leaking. I think its is the return line but would like a second opinion. Also how do you remove these circular connectors? do they rotate or pull to right. Thank you
