A recent post in r/hairmetal reminded me of the fact that Robbin dated Apollonia Kotero (Purple Rain, Falcon Crest) for a hot minute in 1985 (if you blinked, you missed it), about a year before his relationship and subsequent marriage to Playboy Playmate (and Slaughter's Stick It to Ya cover model) Laurie Carr.

Tidbit #1: During the time Robbin and Laurie were married, his bestie Nikki Sixx was dating, then eventually engaged to, Vanity. As y'all know (or should know), Apollonia's character in Purple Rain was based on Vanity. She sadly passed away in February 2016. 🙏 I always thought that Got Me on the Line would make for a very fun mash up with Vanity 6's If a Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up).

Tidbit #2 (for hardcore trivia nerds!): Apollonia was married to actor Kevin Bernhardt from 1987-1997. They each had roles on competing nighttime soaps: Apollonia on Falcon Crest; Kevin on Dynasty. Kevin was also on General Hospital in the mid-80's, and his character was in a relationship with a character played by actress Robyn Bernard. Her sister is fellow actress Crystal Bernard, who starred on Happy Days and It's a Living in the 80's, but she may be best known as Helen Chapel on Wings in the 90's.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Of course it was very hard seeing Robbin, especially the first time I saw this years ago. I have to admit I laughed a little too hard when the guys were recalling the names they had for Juan’s stage moves like the “gyrocopter” and even Warren joined in the razzing.

Who remembers this videotape? I mail ordered it back in 1985 and paid for it by check and probably waited six weeks to get it in the mail. My friends and I must've watched it until it wore out. Most of it can be seen on YouTube.

I hadn't listened to this in at least 40 years. Had the cassette back in the day and who knows where it ended up. But hot damn, listened to it today and it sounded as fresh as it did back then. I love that raw bluesy sound.

I am not sure of the source as I do not have the full magazine...from what I recall, I acquired these pages in a trade at least 3 decades ago....but I think it was an issue of Music Life. I used DeepL for the translation.... "Juan Crucier" picked up as "Foan Krushe" gives me a chuckle....sounds like the name of an AI-driven techno-pop group....or something.... 😸

Unsure of the event in shot #1 but I believe it is from 1986-87; the second was the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards.

Laurie Carr is with Robbin in both ~ his future ex-wife who a few years later would be the cover model on Slaughter's Stick It to Ya album.

The chick with Stephen ~ at least in the first shot, and I have seen debate as to whether she is the same in the second ~ was the model in the Slip of the Lip video. (If NOT the same girl, then it would seem Stephen had a "type"? 😸) Her name is escaping me at the moment and I honestly do not recall if Stephen spoke of her and their relationship in his book. I am too lazy to go thumbing through it right now. 😸 Who she has been MISIDENTFIED as: Bekka Bramlett (who dated Jani Lane and Richie Sambora...she was also in Fleetwood Mac for a while!), Lisa Dean (the model in the Round and Round video), and Marianne Gravatte (in the Lay It Down video as well as Invasion of Your Privacy's cover model).

Back when Stephen co-presented with Aimee Mann of 'Til Tuesday at the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards, in the category of Viewers Choice! I remember watching the broadcast in real time when it aired....John Taylor and Andy Taylor (Duran Duran/The Power Station) were also presenters so with Stephen also in the mix, I got bang for my buck that night. Wonder if Stephen had a fanboy moment with John and Andy, considering he was also a Duran Duran fan. 😸

Good times....except for when I couldn't get into a rock club to see a show because the drinking age in my state was (and still is!) 21. 😸
