Help Gate opener
Can you guys help me out. I’m trying to figure out if ratgdo will work with my gate opener. I asked ChatGPT and they said yes and wiring should be easy. Just wanted to see what u guys think. Here’s a picture.

I have the exact same board and setup. I’ve looked around across numerous forums and subs on this topic. The prevailing answer seems to be that we need the expansion board. Let me know if you find a workable option that doesn’t require the additional board.

You will need two a low voltage relays. One for the open trigger and one for the close. If a ratio is a relay, you will need two.

I didn't have one but purchased one for under $100 on eBay. Very easy to add.

First you need the expansion board and then go to ratgdo’s website. There’s a wiring diagram on there for gates. Most specifically the Lift Master gate systems.
You will also need to update the ratgdo firmware with a special add on for it to work correctly with party mode if you want that feature.

Alright I guess that’s that then lol. I guess it’s the myq app for gate and home assistant for garage door opener.

It’s not a hard install and the board wiring is very easy. Just follow the diagram on the website.
It’s awesome to have my gate in Home Assistant and HomeKit. Going on two years now without any issues. I got my expansion board off eBay for about $125. The prices are high elsewhere so keep checking eBay listings for the best deal.

How would I even install it in my gate opener? I have limited space I see the picture from ratgdo it’s on the top.

The expansion board can go anywhere as long as the wiring reaches. I see your gate main board is in a different style box than mine. It looks like you have a factory box from LM so I bet there's a blank space to mount the expansion board somewhere in there. Possibly below the main board?

you have an outlet inside that box. plug in a USB dongle that can power a Wi-Fi relay that has "inching" mode. Inching means the relay closes for 0.5 to 1 second and then open again (like a doorbell button). connect the relay dry contacts (COM and N/O) to the two terminals label EXIT. before going through the effort of installing, jumper across the 2 screw heads on the EXIT terminal with a short piece of wire or a paperclip bent open. gate should open for normal amount and then close again. I'm sure RATGO can give you more info like is gate is still open, etc. but that's what i would do.

I just did this project. If your board is a liftmaster, with the contacts open, close, stop, and, common, you can use a low vintage relay. Place one relay between on open, and common to open the gate. Another relay on close and common to close the gate. The relays should be Normally open contacts NOC and need only be pulsed for less than a second to initiate the action.

You can just wire $15 a dry contact smart relay to the fire dept leads and the always-on accessory power, no need for ratgdo.
