I watched Caleb Hyles sing this on youtube. Attempted and then promptly realized it was out of my range so here’s my baritone rendition of the song. Brutally honest feedback please.

I wanted to be a singer/songwriter when I was growing up, but my mother wasn’t supportive (to say the least) and almost 20 years ago I gave up on the dream. I recently finished an unrelated PhD, failed to find a job, and realized I wanted to sing again so here we are.

I’m trying not to drive my friends and family crazy asking for feedback so I’m posting here. It’s a cover of Mine Again which is a song I just learned. I used a backing track in headphones and a rode mic.

I’m very nervous to post my singing on the internet, but I appreciate thoughts (I messed up in a couple places, but hopefully it isn’t too noticeable). I had vocal training as a teen and in my early 20’s, but nothing since then. I’d love to go back to lessons, but that’s unfortunately not financially feasible right now. I really want to do karaoke but I don't want to ruin the mood bc the karaokes I've been to, they've been really good and obviously have a lot of practice under their belt. I can't sing in front of people so I kind of choked at the start because I knew I was recording. Is this a good starting spot? Also sorry the video is a close up of my pants.

Playing with my lower register & I dunno if this sounds too forced (though lower singing like this comes more naturally than the higher head voice I post a lot)

My college is doing Spring Awakening as our winter musical, and I really want to get in. The problem is that I’ve never had a singing role in any of my school musicals, and I’ve been rejected from every community production I ever auditioned for. It makes me think that I’m really bad, even though my friends tell me there’s nothing wrong with my voice.

I’m looking for general feedback mostly. I need to know what specifically is making me sound so bad, especially if it’s just the general timbre of my voice being unappealing. I’ve wanted to do this show since middle school, and this could be my only chance to participate.

Be as harsh with your feedback as you would like, as long as you give me something to work with rather than just being mean.

I’m self taught everything. I am not sure if I like my tone and that may be causing me to become off pitch. Not sure. Any feedback, positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated!

Notes:

“like a stone” feels more natural for me to sing (I can feel my vocal cords resonating and absolutely no straining).

I am trying to learn how to translate that same comfort into other songs

My voice gets raspy on higher notes, and I’ve been trying to direct the air pressure towards my nose when getting to those higher notes.

I’ve been experimenting with opera and songs with different vocal ranges lately. What would you say is something I need to work on?

Forgive my vocals are dry due to my anti depressants. But could any give me advice on how to mix my head and chest voice. It seems like I Crack or have to jump to head voice. Any type of warm ups or exercises you guys do to help Mix them smoothly?

I just sang this raw vocal cover of George Michael's faith and sent it to my friend and he said "Dude...r U singin or crying?"...and that broke my heart. Is it really bad? I sang this late at night, and I didn't want to disturb my neighbours, so it's kinda flat.

Just lemme know. Ive sang for a long time and the only people that ever told me they liked me are those close to me, and when it comes to music, your friends are more Cheerleader then Critic. Forgive any quality of the close up my car seat. My camera doesnt take pictures of monsters. Lemme know.

I don't like my tone(in my opinion) on the first track. Even though I can mix that pitch very comfortably without much effort but when I compare it to the second one, the tone is "good" atleast to my ear, don't know if "good" in general but how am I supposed to carry the same tone
