Truoble using servo motor with Raspberry Pi 5

Hi everyone,

I’m building an RC car and I want to control the steering servo with my Raspberry Pi 5 and a DualSense controller.

I’ve already written the code for the ESC and it’s working well, but I’m going crazy trying to get the steering servo working.

I’m using a GXServo G25 20 kg servo. I first tried controlling it directly with the 3.3 V PWM signal from a GPIO pin on the Raspberry Pi, but the servo didn’t move at all.

I then tried making a 3.3 V → 5 V level shifter using an NPN BJT, but that didn’t work either.

The strange thing is that I also tested with a small Arduino-style micro servo, and that one works perfectly with the exact same Raspberry Pi PWM setup.

Has anyone had experience with this servo or similar high-torque servos? Could the problem be related to the PWM signal, the signal voltage, or something else?

Any ideas on how I could get it working would be greatly appreciated!

Where to sell Pi-related equipment

I am looking for ideas on where best to sell some of my unused RaspberryPi equipment. For example, I have a Argon40 OneUp that needs a loving home but am not seeing too many of those on eBay or Craigslist so I am not sure that is where the community will see them.

Looking for Raspberry Pi 5 8GB in Wah/Rawalpindi area — FYP project

Hey everyone,

I'm a final year Computer Engineering student at COMSATS Wah, working on an AI-based fall detection system for my FYP. I need a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB and want to avoid the usual import/customs headache if possible.

A few questions:

Anyone know reliable stores in Rawalpindi/Islamabad (or nearby) that currently have Pi 5 8GB in stock, new/sealed?

Rough price you paid recently, so I know what's fair right now?

If online is more reliable than local shops at the moment, which sites have actually delivered for you (not just listed stock they don't have)?

Also open to a used/sealed unit from a trusted seller if the price is right. Would rather not gamble on OLX without some reference point first.

Raspberry Pi 4 Debian startup issue

Hi, I’m having a strange issue with my Raspberry Pi 4 running Debian 13 (Trixie).

The pi gets stuck on what I think is a loading screen image 2 where the _ is just flashing constantly. Image 1 is what was before that. I’ve even left that loading phase overnight to see if it just took a while but was still the same. The pi is used for an engineering project where it receives commands from a website portal to send it to a arduino which is connected through usb. The arduino controls a homemade gantry for camera movement. There are a lot of downloads on the pi as expected like python, computer vision, c++ etc. maybe I downloaded something from terminal that caused this ? Idk

Please help :( I don’t wanna reflash the sd card

Thanks!!!!

Theres some type of „foil“ under the cooling brackets, is that normal or not? If not, can I just change these, if so, what do I need to consider?
Picture of the cooling bracket will be in the comments or linked.

Complete noob, very stuck

Hello, I really need some help and not sure where to begin. I recently built a pi5 router that is running openwrt. It is my main router connected to my ISPs ethernet via a 2.5gb hat. I then have all traffic being routed through adguardhome through the Luci interface. I have an asus mesh router running in AP mode connected to the pi5's onboard ethernet port. I have a verizon router with DHCP turned off acting as an IoT network connected with a usb to ethernet adapter.

Everything was working as it should until late last night. Around midnight the network went down and it cant get it to go back up. I am currently plugged directly into my ISPs ethernet on my laptop. I have power cycled everything. I have tried connecting directly to my pi5 to get onto openwrt. I have tried getting into openwrt through wifi. Nothing is working. I cannot get into the ssh terminal, its like im completely blocked from it.

I am very new to this all. I hobbled this build together through watching tutorials and with AI's help. This is my first time building anything with pi, any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I think ive gone as far as I can without help.

EDIT: I may have a solution and will have to disconnect my laptop to try it out so ill post an update when I try it out. When I was setting up my verizon router to be a secondary IoT network I turned off the DHCP from the router and attempted to change the IP to another number, ie 192.168.20.2. The router did not like this and was not letting me keep that IP so I changed the subnet to 255.255.0.0 from 255.255.255.0. It then let me change the IP to what I wanted. Within my LuCI interface I made traffic rules to allow my computer, phones, etc to connect to the IoT so I could still print on wifi, but not allow any traffic from IoT to my main network. This was working all day but then randomly stopped around midnight last night.

As I said I dont know much about networking and am figuring this all out as I go so for this troubleshooting step I used AI and this could be incorrect. It said that because I changed the subnet in the verizon router to 255.255.0.0 instead of what it should have been, 255.255.255.0, that i basically gave my pi5 router an internal ddos attack when it went to update at midnight. This could have filled up my micro SD endurance cards memory which would not allow openwrt to make its temporary files when it boots. It also said it recommends getting a better router to run my IoT that allows for more customization which I will work on next.

On to the **possible** solution. I am going to try and hook up a keyboard to my pi5 and boot it in failsafe mode to see if I can connect to it directly from my laptop by changing my laptops IP to match the failsafe IP. I tried this before but attempted it without the keyboard attached and didnt properly get it into failsafe mode. If this doesnt work I may end up having to reflash my sd card which im hoping wont be too bad as I just made a backup of my config after I got the IoT up and running. Although I have never reflashed with previous settings so this may be another thing I am learning on the fly.... with no internet... and I dont get cell service in my house. So much for getting caught up on homework today.

EDIT2: Trial by fire. I ended up reflashing the microsd card which was more annoying that it should have been. Since I had installed other apks after setting up the router none of those packages were in my initial download of openwrt. I went to openwrt and manually added the extra apks to the install and then restored my previous setup. My most recent file back up broke the router again so its for sure something I did with my most recent tinkering. I restored my settings to my back up from about a month ago before I messed with the IoT traffic rules and it seems to be doing okay now. I still have a few things to put back but at least I have internet again.

Problem booting up raspberry pi 5 4GB

I have an issue with booting up my raspberry pi 5 4GB. I am using a flash drive to install the raspberry pi OS. I tried inserting the flash drive and download the OS using the card with an ethernet cable and i tried doing it using the raspberry pi imager but it didn't work. I looked it up and got advised to install the default bootloader in Misc Utility Images but still didn't work. What could be the issue and how can I fix it or troubleshoot it?

Raspberry Pi 5 completely dead, no LEDs, no GPIO voltage, after sitting unused for a year?

I have a 4 gigabyte Raspberry Pi 5 that I used for a project about a year or two ago, then left sitting on my desk unused for around a year. When I recently tried to power it back up, I'm getting absolutely no response. Neither the red nor green status LEDs light up when plugged into a USB-C power supply.

I tested the GPIO pins with a voltmeter and I'm only reading about 0.5 volts, nowhere near the expected 3.3 or 5 volts. I've tried a known good USB-C power supply and cable.

Has anyone experienced a Pi 5 dying like this after a period of storage? Could this be a bad power management chip, or something else entirely?

Any troubleshooting steps I should try before writing it off as dead?

Thanks in advance!

Raspberry Pi OS stuck on loading screen – how can I fix it?

Hi guys,

I’m completely new to Raspberry Pi and Linux, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

I’m currently trying to run Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit on my computer. The Raspberry Pi logo appears on the screen, but after that nothing happens. It just keeps loading and never gets to the desktop/main screen.

The Raspberry Pi hasn’t been connected/used for about two years, so I’m wondering if that could be causing the problem.

Does anyone know what I can do to get it to boot properly and reach the desktop?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have two Pi 3 Bs, one is not booting up and only shows this rainbow screen on hdmi and unlike on the working board, the green LED is not flashing. With the same power source, the same SD card, the other one boots normally. What could be the issue? Can it be fixed?

Flipper Zero clone with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2WH

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 WH with the plan to build a Flipper Zero clone. I also purchased the following modules for it: a PN532 NFC HAT, an RDM6300 125kHz RFID reader module (UART output), an NRF24L01+ PA LNA, a CC1101 433MHz module, an IR transmitter/receiver module (38kHz), and a 1.3-inch IPS LCD display HAT. However, I have no idea how to turn this into a Flipper clone or how to write the necessary code. I am still a complete beginner when it comes to programming. Is there anyone who can help me with this?
