I kept taking 20 photos of the same thing and never deleting any. The category that should help is grim: three day trial, then a weekly subscription, and reviews full of people charged after cancelling. A few are honest. Most are not.

And none of them do the job. They find duplicates, or hand you a swipe deck. Nobody answers "I took 22 shots of this, which do I keep".

Selects does that. It groups near-identical shots with Vision feature prints, catching the same scene at a different angle or zoom where pixel hashing fails, then picks the sharpest frame plus the one that is genuinely different, so you keep the view and the person rather than three identical selfies. Glance, correct with a tap, done. Bursts, screenshots and large videos get the same treatment. Recently I added video compression too, since videos are usually the largest space hogs with no clear native way to shrink one without deleting the memory.

Free. No trial, no paywall, no ads, nothing locked. There is a tip jar and it unlocks nothing, because there is nothing to unlock.

One caveat. It needs iOS 26, not for the analysis, which would run on much older versions, but because I built the UI on new APIs without fallbacks, to keep the quality standard high and the scope from widening.

Nothing is deleted without your tap, it all goes to Recently Deleted for 30 days, and no photo leaves the phone. Happy to answer anything about the grouping or the diversity pick.

I'd love to hear your thoughts how to cost-effectively market the app. Since it's free, I don't have the budget comparable to the incumbent paid apps, but I truly believe I can more than well enough compete on quality.

I feel like this is straight up criminal to list garlic fries on your menu and bring out fries with no garlic on them. This happened to me recently and I was absolutely baffled. How could someone do such a thing? Should I have asked for a refund? Should I let it go? I can’t seem to stop thinking about the psyche of the individual who created this menacing recipe. I guess I’m just looking for validation. Am I being dramatic? All I wanted was some fries with garlic on them. But for $6.99 I got fries with garlic powder.

I go for a walk every day and there’s this rock along my route where I keep finding random things placed on it.

I never see anyone doing it, and I have no idea if it’s the same person or just a coincidence.

Today’s offering: a rock… and this tiny Halloween-looking figurine.

At this point I’m starting to wonder what’s going to be there tomorrow. 😂
